Unclear on the concept of protecting public health?

I am on the cruise that the O.P. is referencing. My preference would be that everyone be required to present a negative test result and be tested upon embarkation.  But, that is not current O policy.

Got this for our upcoming La Havre to New York cruise from Oceania... I guess getting a negative test within 72 Hours is good insurance.

While testing is no longer required, as a general rule, Oceania Cruises strongly recommends you obtain a PCR test not more than 72 hours prior to embarkation. If a PCR test is not readily available, then we encourage guests to at a minimum take a laboratory administered COVID-19 antigen test not more than 72 hours prior to embarkation.

Guests that fail to test prior to departure or cannot provide proof of a negative laboratory supplied test result and subsequently test positive for COVID- 19 upon embarkation will not be reimbursed for quarantine or return embarkation arrangements.

The confusion here is that passengers will not be tested pier-side because this cruise departs from France and France does not require a test upon embarkation.  So, if you are not being tested pier-side, there is no risk of testing positive.

  3. Omicron is a game changer because of breakthroughs. Several of my family members, all vaccinated and boosted and always in a mask in public, have tested positive and have minor symptoms. However, the original posters here are 79 and 80. I understand their reluctance to sail. As far as the future goes, we have no idea what variants will create the next wave. The cruise industry is in a precarious place.

On our last Holy Land cruise , they were offering 50% off every night for speciality dinning

How many days was that cruise?  I'm new to Celebrity, but my experience on other lines is that the longer the cruise, the easier it is get specialty restaurant reservations.

  5. Our Asia cruise makes one stop in Shanghai and no other ports in China, expect for Hong Kong, which does not require a visa.  A free 24 hour visa is not applicable as the ship is docking in Japan before and after Shanghai and this type of visa requires that you are coming from one country and traveling to a different country.  Do I need a visa if I do a ship's tour for this one stop?  If I do not disembark at all in Shanghai would I still need a visa?  Thanks in advance your expertise.

It's my understanding that visa chase reserve (not preferred) covers medical evacuation, if some of the cruise has been purchased with the card. It does have a hefty annual of $450 but will credit you back $300 when spent on travel. I am relying on that... hope it's accurate.

The Chase Sapphire does indeed provide good med evac.  I use this card for travel.  Read the fine print as you may have to charge the entire trip to get the coverage.  Also, and this is why I can't use the Sappire card on my 4 B2B cruises, the travel must be completed in 60 days or less.

    Are you selling something?

X does'nt require proof of insurance.  Whether it should or not is a different question.  But most people are only MedEVac's once.  Not serially.  I doubt you would be allowed to re-board your back to backs if lifted from one.

The med evac would cover the cost to get us home, not back to the ship for the continuation of a cruise.

That's a pretty pricey option.  If you evacuated from a ship in US waters by coast guard helicopter, is there a fee for that?

I don't know the answer regarding the Coast Guard.  But a medical evacuation from any port would be on your dime.

I'm not selling anything, just passing along information.

  11. One of the greatest financial risks when traveling would be the requirement for a medical evacuation, especially when traveling abroad.  Celebrity travel insurance does include medical evacuation but only up to $25,000.  A series medical evacuation could require a sum far greater.   Many independent travel insurers cover up to $100,000.   You can also purchase a policy that covers only medical evacuation and use it in conjunction with Celebrity or independent insurance.  That's what we'll do for our 4 back to back cruises in Asia.  The cost for a one million dollar policy for 90 days is $400 for 2 people.  The risk of ever needing a medical evacuation is tiny but the cost could be huge.

    No.

They are two separate cruises in every way.

    nothing carries over, even obc!

That's too bad about the OBC.  We've cruised mostly on Oceania and the OBC carries over for back to back cruises.  We're in the processing of booking 4 back to back in Asia, 2020.  We'll have to be strategic in our use of OBC.  We've only done one Celebrity cruise and it was many years ago.  So, we'll be watching this board and asking you experts your opinions.

  13. I understand that there is rule on cc that does not allow the mention of specific travel agencies.  Is there is a way to find out which agencies offer the best prices for HAL cruises?  We're experienced cruisers so we really do not need help with the details.  We are most interested in getting the best price/perks.  Thanks in advance for your help.
