  1. I seem to remember that you could book a cruise using an FCC/FCD, whether onboard or not, and book friends/family at the same $100 deposit. However, they did not get the FCC OBC. Don’t know if that’s changed but I’m pretty sure this has been possible for years.

When my Mom put down the FCD for me, then immediately used it to book us, I got the FCC OBC. :)

This was done just a couple days ago on the Golden.

  2. My Mom just booked for me. My parents are on the Golden right now and my Mom & I are planning to sail on the Star next September. Onboard the other day, she put down the future cruise deposit in my name, then immediately used it to book both of us on our next cruise.

I think she would have mentioned if there were any issues doing that, but she didn't. Could have been easier since we are related and have the same last name. It doesn't hurt to try.

  3. To answer a previous question, Stanley's clothes do come off. We bought ours in Alaska with the lumberjack outfit and my Mom bought the Captain outfit for our bears, too.

My Mom took Stanley on my parents' last cruise and every day, they would return to the cabin to find him in different places and doing various things. It was so cute and more fun than towel animals! =)

  4. Had anyone phoned and talked to Princess yet? There’s a lot of assuming going on and we need an answer from the proverbial horses mouth. Perhaps it’s not as nefarious as we are assuming...

The problem with that is that the answer, or somebody having a real answer at all, would vary according to which rep happens to be on the other end of the line.

I wonder of somebody could come up with the actual written language on the new/current policy?

I just got off the phone with customer service. He insisted that coffee cards have no expiration date and he confirmed with his supervisor. I have a feeling this is a case of the right hand not knowing what the left is doing,

  5. My opinion is that the cleanest boat you'll ever be on is one that just had a noro outbreak. They clean that ship like crazy. Everyone is involved, especially the CDC. I know someone who cruised on the Crown right after the outbreak last month and they said it was immaculate and no one got sick.

  6. You can be a "walk-off" disembarker (I like the word, let's keep it) and get off the ship in one of the earliest times. When we cruised the Ruby rt Seattle in May, my Mom walked off and was assigned the earliest slot when she asked. You don't have to just have carry-ons, but you do deal with your own luggage. So, don't set your bags out the night before. You take them with you in the morning if you're a walk-off.

  7. My Mom & I were on the Ruby in May to Alaska. We both wore black dress pants and a nice top for formal nights. At the table next to us, there was a guy wearing jeans and a t-shirt. I know that how strict they are can differ between ships and itineraries, but Mexico will be on the more casual side of "formal." Your husband could easily get by with a short sleeved shirt and no tie. It really comes down to what makes you/him most comfortable.

  8. Tried posting link, but it gets error msg. On the contact us page, just above what you're referencing in small print is contact a vacation planner. Once you click into that it gives you the menu you're looking for.

The link actually showed up on the email I got alerting me of a reply. Thank you. I think that is mostly for booking, though.

  9. I'm usually good at finding such things, but I'm striking out today. I'm trying to find a way to email Princess, but the contact form seems to be only for post-cruise inquiries, Captain Circle issues and problems wit the website. I have a comment about a future itinerary and can't seem to find the right place/email address to do so. I have heard others on the message boards mention that they have contacted Princess for similar things. Any ideas on where to contact or a general email address?

  10.

A tip. On the everyday menu is fettuccine which was quite good. However, it was plain. I asked if they could put some shrimp on it and was told they could not. So, next time, I ordered a shrimp cocktail (also on the everyday menu) with no sauce. Put it on the fettuccine and I was good to go!

They will usually put anything on the menu on your fettucini. Is shrimp cocktail on the menu every night? If not, that may be why. The night I got fettucini, there was a salmon entrée on the menu and I asked for a piece of salmon with my pasta. He had to bring the entire salmon plate, put the fish on my pasta and asked if I wanted anything else from that plate.

  11. We had dinner at the SD on the Ruby in May. We just walked in, no reservations and were seated immediately. We loved it. I'm sure it's not for everyone, but we both thought the food was great. My Mom had the burger and the lobster mac & cheese. I had the white tomato soup (it's really white!) with grilled cheese and the beef short rib poutine. Oh My Gosh! I would have eaten a bucket of that poutine, it was amazing! Next cruise, I am definitely getting that again.

It's a fun place to have a casual dinner and try a couple small plates. If your dinner companion shares, you get to taste even more dishes. Fortunately for me, my Mom gave me a bite of her lobster mac & cheese. The desserts are small, too, but so yummy!
