If folk want to search for ducks, go ahead but not having looked, I wouldn't have a clue if there are any ducks onboard.

Personally, I like mine  served crispy, with pancakes. plum sauce, cucumber sticks and shredded spring onion. 🙂

    That actually sounds really good!

  2. When I said things changed I just meant that since  my medical retirement happened ( broken shoulder) I don’t have the excess funds to spend on QM2. ( She was a pricey back to back)
But we are going to do a Baltic cruise next year. I had already paid off the Queen Anne back before my accident ( the accident was a great 60th birthday present 🙃🙃).

Thank you for the concerns but I promise I will keep on cruising. I have a feeling we will love Cunard.

We booked on Thursday, Even though we will be sailing on Queen Anne for 2 sailings, we have not sailed them yet. So that made us newbies to book on Thursday.

We booked Queen Mary2 for the NY to Canada to NY again. 14 days to see the Leaves change.  Sheltered balcony. 10/2025

    I am excited.

So things have changed and we had to cancel QM2.
Queen Anne is still on for October this year on a back to back.

At about 6:15pm tonight the Officer of the Watch made an announcement that the northern lights were visible off the port side and were ‘quite impressive’. She wasn’t wrong.  The display was still going after 9pm, albeit at less intensity than the first half hour or so.

At the time of the first activity the ship was on a southerly heading, roughly abeam Froya.

Just Wow! I can only hope we see this kind of display on Queen Anne in October 2024.

Hi, we just left Tromsø. Here’s what I wish I’d known in advance.
There are public buses and bus 26 goes to the cable car. If you’re on NCL, they offer a shuttle bus for $20/person. The shore excursion desk sold those a day in advance, but they didn’t advertise this at all. Other lines may have a similar deal.
Our excursion was bad. Too expensive, plus all the buses showed up at the cable car at the same time. We waited for more than an hour to go up, stay 10 minutes and stand in line to go back down.
You can also get a taxi at the cruise terminal. That would have been faster and better.
If you’re doing any of these, try to get off the ship as soon as you can. Otherwise, the lines will be very long.

off topic ...did you see any northern lights?

I will be visiting Olden, on a cruise stop in September.  I prefer to use local bus transport when available. Can you advise if local bus tickets can be bought using a credit card or is payment accepted only in the local currency.  I am hoping to visit either or both the Loen Skylift and the Briksdal Glacier, depending on how convenient it is to get there and back to the port by local bus.  Can anyone give some advice on this.  Information on bus route, schedule and cost would be greatly appreciated.

We had to tender  to Loen. We took a bus...No charge to go into Olden. We walked back to Loen. Easy walk. We then caught another bus to our booked excursion.

I don't know if the cruise line hired the buses or not.

    Hi, Meander.

It looks like a very interesting trip but, you are right, there won’t be much daylight at that time of the year.
We were in Narvik, Tromso and Alta in March 2022 and I have lots of information on the ports but it will take me a couple of days to get it organised enough to post so please bear with me.

    @Izzywiz

I see you have been to Narvik. I am also going there and looking for a northern lights excursion. We will be there Mid October 2024 on Queen Anne. I saw the train one. Hopefully QA will have this excursion. But if Not , I am looking for another company to go with.

  8. Since this is to do with Waterloo train. I will ask here.

I am booked at Park Plaza County Hall London hotel. I see on the Map very near there is Waterloo Station. Is this the correct place I would go to catch a train to Southampton? And is it walkable from the Hotel to there with very light luggage? Or would a cab be more in order?
