  1. we thought Hooked was Ok. I can say it was certainly the fasted specialty dinner we have ever had on a RCCL ship.

in and out in less then an hour. actually felt rushed

the other frustrating part was I went to hooked to make a reservation for dinner, OK. All set there. then one of our aqua shows got moved because of wind so I went back to see if I could move the original reservation-

they didn't have one for us, and not only did they not have room for us when we wanted to move It to,they didn't have the original time open either.  So after making a big deal about how they will try to fit us in and making it seem like they were being incredibly generous we got in at the new time.

when we showed up the place was nearly empty, I cant believe they had that many no shows, literally 3/4 of the tables were empty the entire time we were in the restaurant.

the Lobster Mac had sat under a warming lamp for far too long. one of the other apps was lukewarm.

the lobster roll was really good and my wife's salmon was really good, but overall we were both just unimpressed.

Chops on the other hand was the best service and food we got on the entire trip.

So , I called , and 3rd time is the charm!

Now my question is this.  When I booked I had a 200 onboard credit offer. New offer does not have 200 onboard credit.

I already spent the 200 onboard credit buying a tour. I still see the tour booked, the person changed the pricing to new pricing. What happens to the 200 onboard credit? do they now charge the difference of the tour to my credit card? Or do I need to re-book (as I still see this booked)

    Thanks

it is possible you will loose the OBC.i t seems to me that the reps rarely take OBC into account when making the adjustments.

I had to fight them to reprice a cruise one time because even though the fare was going up $25 dollars the OBC was increasing by $200.00.

they could not comprehend why I would wan to pay the $25 dollar increase.

  3. Reports are that 1200 crew were transferred back to Florida on a Grand Bahamas ship

    https://www.wpbf.com/article/local-cruise-ships-help-crew-members-on-ship-damaged-by-crane/27019962

    that don’t sound good.....

    edit

    actually i misread that.

They were fed and shetered on the ship.

Article Says the oasis crew would return to Florida today however i doubt the oasis crew would be returning to Palm Beach FL.

So what do you do when there is pounding on your door and the peephole has been covered?

I would not open my door.  No way.  There has been too much violent crime on cruise ships and in hotels. Not until they calmly identify themselves and I am satisfied that security on the phone agrees.  Or they break down the door.

If there are two of you in the room:  One stays at the door and yells back you want ID at the peephole and the head of ship security present. But stand far enough away for the door to open suddenly.

Second person runs to the phone, calls 911 or whatever is the emergency number, and makes it clear you are UNDER ATTACK AT YOUR CABIN DOOR SEND SECURITY URGENT.  Then they go to the safe and get your passports out if there is time.  Grab paper and pen if there is time.

Keep your hands where they can see them.

If they separate you from the search yell loudly, and repeatedly, you want to be present for the search to prevent false evidence from being placed.  Keep saying it. Ask neighbors to video the scene and send you the video.

Answer simple questions. Where do you live, what country is your citizenship, etc. But do not answer confusing questions.  They may be entrapment.  Feel free to remind them that damage or loss of valuables or medication will result in a claim. Or that you will file a claim for air tickets if you miss your flight.

Take the name and ID number of every agent present.  Be calm and serious. They won't like it and are more likely to be cooperative when you are not intimidated and not acting guilty.

By the way, the more doors they break down the more the cruise line will ask them to behave with civility, as they are going to file claims for those doors too.

    LOL

    guess what?

you'd be standing in the hallway in your bath robe in 2 minutes just like the OP.

  5. So lets say i wanted to sell party drugs on a cruise that is notorious for party drugs and where somebody died from a OD last year.

I wouldn't try to get them on board the week of the party cruise with what will certainly be increased security and screening. however if i went on the regular cruise the week before and then had the drugs already on the ship when the increased security started i would have a much better chance of clearing that hurdle.

in face the smartest play would be have somebody else take the cruise before, bring whatever you wanted on board at one of the port stops and then hide it somewhere either in the same cabin of possible or elsewhere on the ship.

Sorry it happened to you, but who knows what information they were acting on and at the end of the day they are trying save lives.

  6. Hey, something i can actually talk about-

Betting the darks side is not a real favorite for many craps players, you may get some ribbing but nothing too bad, I have seen players leave the table when somebody was playing the dont pass but its rare.

saying the word "7" while a point is established is bad form, Usually happens when some guy who learned to play the night before is trying to show his wife/gf/bf/buddy how to play. By far the worst thing (at least for me) is getting your hands in the way while the dice are out.

If you need to make a bet and the dice are moving just call it out-

the crew will confirm it without the chips on the felt.

it seems the crews i have seen on the ships prefer to have the tokes wagered. i will frequently call out a two way hard bet when the point is 4/6/8/10. This absolutely killed me on the symphony of the seas a few weeks ago, i dont think i hit a point (soft or hard)the entire trip while i had a two way hard down.  I started toking them after the roll straight out. Literally every two way hard i called was immediately "7 out"

Other then the pass/dont pass and the odds the other bets on the table are no better then most other table bets.

playing the numbers can be fun and profitable if the shooter starts throwing some numbers but carry a 1.5% house advantage.

I actually didnt play nearly as much craps as i would have normally because of how they assign points for table play.

I did earn Prime tier this time so it will interesting to see how that goes going forward.  i have three more cruises planed before 4/2020 so i should have no problem keeping it for at least the next two years.

Sorry everyone, this is my first time back to the boards since everything changed and I can not find the search function.  I know there are other posts out there but please humor my ignorance.

I cruised on RCI for Christmas and it was my first Gluten Free cruise.  They had a sliced sandwich bread they toasted for me in the MDR that was quite tasty.  I am looking for the brand name and places I can buy it.  I live in the Houston, TX  area if that helps narrow down store choices.

Also, the dining room staff already knew of my diet restrictions when I showed up.  Will I need to add this information to my cruise file for each cruise going forward or will it be stored in RCI's system?

Thank you all for your time and responses.

I believe the GF  bread is baked on board.

    What an asinine statement

Propylene glycol, the primary ingredient in the electronic cigarette cartridge, may be a powerful deterrent against pneumonia, influenza, and other respiratory diseases when vaporized and inhaled according to a study by Dr. Oswald Hope Robertson. Decades before the e cigarette was invented, a study was conducted by Dr. Robertson of the University of Chicago's Billings Hospital in 1942 on inhalation of vaporized propylene glycol in laboratory mice. A more in-depth article was printed in the 1942 issue of TIME Magazine

You mean other than the e-cigs that have exploded?  And, they do not know the health hazards yet from vaping.  It's being studied, but there are chemicals involved.  Methinks you're a smoker and a defensive one at that.

, power strips aren't allowed onboard.  And, yes, vaping does leave an odor.

considering the main ingredient in the liquids is FDA approved and has been used in asthma medications since the 50's. i would imagine that the heath risks are somewhat understood.

  10. I am sure that the price per berth is lower on the larger ships as well as having more floor space for revenue generating opportunities.

Seeing as both of those would lead to increased profits I doubt you will be seeing many new small ships from mainstream lines.

I totally agree with this.   It's just unfair, and that they are allowed to continually do it is mind boggling.   While I understand they this happens and it is unfair to a lot of people, it comes with basically zero cost to the cruise line.  I'd like to see them be forced to offer more compensation than just minimal OBC

Dont sail with them then, you explicitly agree to their cancelation policies when you book the trip.

They write the contract, good luck trying top force them to do anything.

Considering the industry is growing and the ships are sailing at capacity they have 0 incentive to change anything.

The way it is posted it reads like a request. Like a hotel that says “please turn the lights off when not in the room” or “please set the AC to 74 when not in your room.” And any non-die hard cruiser will read that and think it’s nit a big deal.

And lets be real if if this was a major problem for Royal (or if they cared about it) they would do a much better job of communicating that to people.

Maybe they assume that people that can afford to pay for a balcony room would be smart enough to read the signage posted on the door and realize that it also applies to them.

Only if the gambler is bad at it.

It has nothing to with skill, Can't beat the house advantage.

I would bet that the slots are the vast majority of casino revenues. and there is a reason slot play earns points faster for the same cash through,

Based on the point earning difference i would be very surprised if any of the slots are below a 10% expected house advantage.

to give you an idea the passline at craps is 1.41% Expected house advantage at its worst and that falls quickly with the odds bet

    Yes.

FACT If I tip the waitstaff in cash at then end of a cruise, they got it.

FACT  If I tip the Cabin Steward in cash at the end of a cruise, they got it.

FACT Anyone else I tip with cash at the end of a cruise, they got it.

FACT If you remove auto gratuities then multiple people who depend on gratuities as part of their compensation package received less pay for the week then if you had left them on.

So you have absolutely no idea whether the dishwshers, laundry workers, glass and rail cleaners, etc, etc, etc get any of the auto tips. Yet you are more than happy to blindly turn your money over to a corporation that keeps these indentured servants in bondage.

i would be willing to bet that out of the THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of people that have held those jobs over the years somebody, somewhere would have made a post or wrote an article somewhere that the company was taking in tips that were publicly earmarked for those positions and were not getting paid.
