Hello-
Staying at the Hampton Inn convention center and need to get to the Erato St terminal. It shows a 15 min walk all the way around the convention center.
Surely there is a way to cut through the building?? Appreciate any info~

Not to add MORE confusion or Choices, but we just got back from a Coral Princess Panama cruise and booked a private day tour with Mauricio of Jacamar naturalist Tours. Had a fabulous day walking the national park and finding some beautiful birds. Also went to a coffee co-op and did some shopping that we had requested. It was our second visit to Costa Rica and we wanted a company that catered to what we wanted. Jacamar Naturalist tours and specifically Mauricio did just that!

There are 2 docks where a ship might come in. We just disembarked the coral a week ago and our travel agent gave our guide the wrong port info which caused a minor delay. If you have limited time, there are taxis for hire right as you leave the port that will give you a tour. I would not normally recommend this, but The taxi drivers went out of their way to be helpful for us during our aforementioned snafu. They possibly lost customers to take time to use their phones to call for us and they came back from where they all wait for passengers several times to check on us even though they knew we were not going to give them our business since we had pre-arranged a tour. I was highly impressed with their sense of concern and wish for us to have a positive experience in their country. I will be posting later about the awesome private all day tour we took but wanted to mention this since you had time constraints!

Thanks for this! BTW if you are trying, the site will not accept a word document of my screen shot to be uploaded but it did accept it when I converted it to a PDF file.

Interestingly... I have several chip cards and I made sure I had a pin number associated. BUT when I spoke to the agent for the credit card ( Citi), he said that the pin is solely for cash advance use. None of Citibank's products ( per the rep) are the actual chip and pin technology used in Europe. Sooo... I shall see how it goes!!

Tallinn was very easy to do on our own, even in the rain.
Was there any place you found to be special in particular? A neat shop, or cafe, or special view?

I have several chip and pin cards (including a chip and pin debit card) and I have selected the pins on all of them. Typically, a random number is assigned to the cards when they are first issued, but you can call or go online to update the pin to something more memorable. Some cards require you to take specific actions once a pin is set (like enter the pin twice the first time that you use it), so read the fine print or ask your credit card rep if you have to do anything special to activate the new pin prior to traveling abroad.
Thanks for the info! Have never actually used a pin!

I keep changing my mind between taking a tour and not taking a tour in Estonia. We are only there from noon until 5, so I keep waffling. Leaning toward DIY with Rick Steve's but wondering what others loved or hated as far as sites or shops? What was the neatest thing for you? Mary mentioned a chocolate shop, what did everyone else find as a hidden gem?

My Citi Prestige actually sent me a PIN when I opened the card. If you know you have a card with a chip and no foreign transaction fees, maybe call and request a pin. The only bummer is you cannot choose the number ( that I am aware of) which makes it tricky to remember.

I should add that you will not be able to get a travel-sized converter with enough wattage to successfully run a hairdryer or other heat producing device without ruining it. The one I use for my US voltage kitchen appliances weighs about 15 lbs.
Good to know! I ended up just getting a hairdryer with dual voltage... Now I just need an adapter.
-
Sorry there I can't be helpful.
Danish Viking- You are helpful in SOOOOO many ways... No need to apologize ! :)
-
Voltage and plugs are the same as in 2001.
Ok Good! Would still like recommendations if anyone has them about adapters they liked if possible!

Hello-
I have read a few threads from a while back on electrical adapters/converters for Copenhagen. The newest one I saw was from about 2011. Does anyone have any recent insight on need for converters/adapters for chargeable from the US? Doubt if voltage requirements have changed.
I need something that will allow me to charge multiple electronics as well as allow me to plug in my personal hair dryer. ( I know the hotels probably have them but I am partial to mine). Any particular brand or specific adapter/converter you would recommend?

Thanks everyone for your input!
I sent a tweet to Turkish Airlines and got this info:
- Turkish Airlines introduces its new offerings to make their U.S. and U.K. bound passengers’ journeys more comfortable during the implementation process of the electronics ban that declared by the concerned authorities
- Our passengers will continue to use the on board internet with their mobile phones.
- Laptops, tablets and other electronic devices may be used until the boarding gate where they will be handed over.
- Our transfer passengers will have to deliver their respective devices at the boarding gate on their arrival in Istanbul.
- If passenger prefers not to place his/her electronical devices to the checked baggage during the check-in, according to the amendments, these devices will be handed over to be tagged at the boarding gate for a safe and secure transportation, and will be handed back to the passengers upon arrival at the destination. At this destination there will be Turkish Airlines’ authorized staff who will collect the luggages that contain electronic devices. These staff will take them all to the designated place in baggage reclaim area, and all devices will be delivered to owners by these staff by matching the given luggage tags with the record list they have.
I think I will go ahead and carry on. I am getting the details ironed out with the travel insurance to make sure I know exactly what hoops I must jump through if the cameras do go missing.

If it were me, I'd put my camera in my checked bag but take out the SD card. So if the camera were stolen, I would at least still have the photos.
Yes... I will for sure do this and remove the lens from the camera body.
-
Would it be a possibility to insure and mail your camera home from Copenhagen?
This is another great idea! Will also check that cost!
-
Can you put your camera in your bag and insure the heck out of it?
That is precisely what I am checking out!

Only some airlines are affected by the ban. If you are flying from Copenhagen to the US via Istanbul, your airline is unlikely to be one of those on the "ban" list. The airlines are: Emirates, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Kuwait Airways, Royal Jordanian, Saudi Arabian Airlines, EgyptAir, Turkish Airlines and Royal Air Maroc.
For a good run-down of the rules of this ban, read this recent article from the Washington Post, "What You Need to Know about the Electronics Ban":
Thanks for the link. Better article than the ones I had previously read. Unfortunately, we are indeed booked on a Turkish airlines flight from Copenhagen, changing planes in Istanbul. Not sure how they would enforce this rule, extra security checking carry on bags at the gate? I feel that if I put my camera in my checked bag, I may as well also include a " steal me" sign as well! I have had things of less value taken... Don't know what to do...

With recent activities in Stockholm and St. Petersburg, Along with the recent Syria stuff... Anyone think ports of call will be changed? Also, With the electronics ban in effect, I am wondering if anyone has recently connected through Istanbul to US?
I am flying from Copenhagen to L.A. but connecting via Istanbul. Worried about my cameras being confiscated! Wondering what the process is for carry-ons if your flight is originating in a non-ban country but connecting through a ban country. Such a shame we have to worry about such things:o

Thanks Jonza! I will look at tours and the other parks for a plan B! Appreciate it!

Hello! Thanks so much for all of this great Information! I was wondering if it is possible to see the main town , and also to do a small hike at Nuuksio Forest within the time constraints of the cruise stop... Would like to see some of the natural offerings if possible! We will be there on the Disney Magic the week of June 11.

UGH>>> We seriously get into the port of Copenhagen the night before we are supposed to disembark?? I took the nothing before 12:30 as Gospel and now have another non-refundable night in Copenhagen Sunday and not flying till Monday...

Out of all the major attractions noted throughout this thread... The castles, museums, etc. what attractions are open extended hours? We tend to be up fairly early in the morning and would be ready to be somewhere by 8am. Also, besides Tivoli or theater/musical shows, what is open on the later side? This info will help us try to plot a course as we kind of want to see everything! ( including the Hamlet castle). Appreciate any input. Also, where are the best coffee spots? Will probably hit Starbucks for collectors mugs, but would love some good Denmark spots! We will be at Crowne Plaza but heading into town via public transport.
How to get through

Well the GREAT news is... I found out that the Hampton Inn Convention Center where I am booked has a FREE shuttle to the port!! Still not as convenient as a bridge, but yay!!
