  1. That's correct and well documented in the insurance Terms and Conditions. Unfortunately I had to cancel similarly for personal reasons and had purchased the coverage from Viking. I knew that was a sunk cost when I purchased but believed the only way I would cancel would be for a covered event. $1600 poof. Live and learn, now I purchase coverage only at the time of final payment.

  2. Good evening all. OP here for final update. Regent offered a satisfactory solution to the forever to be known as the “Fairmont Fiasco”. Though I will never cross the threshold of one of their properties again. The Regent onboard staff,as well as I’m sure corporate, took the matter very seriously and their concern showed in their communications. The Mariner is beautiful, officers and staff welcoming and gracious. We arrive in Sitka tomorrow for our first port in AK. Looking forward to our remaining 7 days ahead. Thanks to all that offered kind words.

  3. OP here. Time to jump back in after lurking watching the rest of you mix it up. For those of you who speak of some equivalency between properties, let’s just say we will agree to disagree. The Stanford Court is unacceptable alternative and I will be the final judge of that. Regent did not have a representative on-site only contractors that were sympathetic but unable to assist. The onboard staff contacted us within a day and we await further explanation and comment. As for the cruise it is going very well and Mariner is a beautiful ship, as we expected. The events at the Fairmont are and will be a blemish. Hopefully a small one in the bigger scheme of things. Back to your schirmishes.

  4. Newbie to Regent having most cruises on Silversea. Less than disappointing start and haven’t even boarded. Arrived SFO met by very nice greeters, collected luggage then waited an hour for SUV to pick us up. OK no big deal we are on vacation. Arrive at Fairmont Hotel to check in. Strange look from desk clerk. In a few front desk manager arrives to advise that in spite of the fact that you and many other Regent cruisers paid to stay at luxury hotel, not going to happen. You lucky people are going to stay down the block at the Stanford Court, a 2* hotel on its best day, a dump any other. But don’t worry says the manager, I will hopefully find someone to help schlep your luggage. REALLY??? Protests to hotel staff and to Regent’s contracted shore staff to no avail. Will make my total disappointment known on ship and to corporate. Very poor early execution.

  5. OP, suggest you read the detailed description of the Pre and Post cruise extensions. The ones I have booked clearly state "includes all transfers" and in the description of each days activities says you will be met and transferred upon arrival for the Pre and transferred to the airport on final day of the Post. You should be all good.

  6. Wife and I already booked on one of the Alaska voyages in Concierge Suite, Cat D. When I saw the promo I questioned how impacts my reservation. Originally told that was for new reservations only. My TA, who books lots of Regent and other luxury lines, pushed the issue. Thankfully RSSC did the right thing and gave us nice amount of OBC. Was about to be a contentious issue. All good ultimately. Thanks Regent for making the correct decision.

  7. We're doing Regent for first time to Alaska in May. We chose longer voyage that starts in San Fran and ends in Vancouver so no long flight to Alaska. Main reason to choosing May is not about kids, although that would be a bother, but the ports will be less crowded in the shoulder season. I have been told that when you get 3, 4 or 5 ships in port on same day can be extremely crowded. Hoping for good weather a less crowds.
