  2. Congratulations for your Scuba Certification. I just wanted to say that myself and 2 kids have gone through the certification process last summer with a local dive shop. We actually decided to get certified in preparation for our Anthem Cruise last month. Both my kids have ADHD. My DD was 12 when certified. She is able to manage without the help of medication but my son, who is 18 now, but was 17 when certified has much more difficulty without medication, but is able to function fairly well with it. They both feel very comfortable under water. But during the first 2 confined water dives, the pool was 13ft deep, my DD had many difficulties with her ears and equalizing. We though it was going to be a problem. Turns out, she had a small head cold, and barely felt sick at all, but it was just enough to make equalizing difficult. The congestion lingered on for 2 weeks, She eventually cleared up and the following weeks were much better and now she can equalize like a champ. Perhaps you already know all this but just wanted to let you know so your son doesn't get discouraged.

We were able to fully enjoy our Cococay dive last month.

Here is my DD in Cococay

We are now looking forward to making other vacation plans where SCUBA will be a part of the experience.

BTW, I'm loving your review. (Both of you ;)) It is odd that we are at opposites with shows and restaurants, but I fully respect opinions and thoroughly enjoy reading yours.

Thank you for your input!! My youngest son was classified in special education at 3 years old and started medication at 5, when unable to even sit in a chair in school. Always had special services up until this year... he was finally declassified from special education and services and is able to do really well while just taking his daily medication. Even with his medication he still has motor issues as well. He found it hard to perform some tasks but kept at it and was able to get it with the help of the instructor. He was quite bummed that he spent so much time on the cruise doing the work and then couldn't continue with the dives itself. I appreciate your input! Maybe he does have a cold or allergies causing congestion. We can look into trying again. Thanks again

  3. Enjoyed reading all your posts, and it sounds like you had a fantastic time on the ship.

Happy Anniversary!!! Today would have been my 40th anniversary too. My husband passed away 10 years ago. Miss him every day.

Thank you! I'm sorry about your husband. I'm sure it's hard and I hope you have some type of peace and continue living life, I'm sure he'd want that for you. [emoji175]

  4. Happy anniversary! Re The Quest - several years ago my husband and I participated in The Quest when we were on Radiance out of Perth, Australia. We had never even attended a Quest but we decided - why not. There were many "teams" put together, basically on where people were sitting. We had a Quest expert who brought with her a bag filled with assorted things. Our team won - Thanks to the expert and my husband. I have video of my husband which when I need to laugh, I watch... He made me promise to never show the video to our children and grandchildren.

Lol @ the video. It's a fun experience even just to watch. And what goes on at Quest is definitely not for children [emoji23]

  5. It's after midnight and officially our last full day on the ship, it's also Easter and our wedding anniversary. So we finished Day 7 by seeing Karaoke Superstar which I could have gone without. After that we participated and watched "The Quest". This has been promoted and talked about all week. This is apparently a big deal and people look forward to it. I didn't know what it was before tonight. It's an adult only game event. It took place in Two70 (which is a really beautiful place and I love it more and more). They split the room up into teams, based on the sections people were sitting in. We were team 1 since we sat in the first section. Team captains were picked or volunteered. Tasks or "quests" were assigned constantly and it's sort of like a scavenger hunt most of the time and then there are also funny tasks. You can see the people who are not shy because some people that volunteer performed embarrassing funny acts or even remove clothes. You do not have to participate if you don't want to, can just watch. There could be a quest as simple as providing a business card or something like that. It was fun and enjoyable. We sat with other guests that we have met from Cruise Critic. It's basically a fun team event with a bunch of strangers. Check it out if you can, it's probably just one late night during the cruise.

  6. Okay, so we finally loved a show. Spectra's Cabaret takes place in Two70 and we really enjoyed it more than any other show we've seen (aside for the comedy show). It was upbeat and fun and had some great performances. There were some parts that I found a little boring but overall, we really liked the show. I suggest sitting in the middle section in the swivel chairs. Was perfect to see everything and also get a lot of interaction with the cast. The host walks around through the audience during the show and towards the end they sort of come out in a parade to get you more excited and involved.

Tonight was our 2nd formal night and also lobster night. They serve lobster tails in the main dining room. The rice was a bit dry but the lobster was decent. I'd say it's about a 4oz. Lobster tail. I'm sure you can get more than one if you want. We also tried the prime rib which was also good. My husband ordered the NY cheesecake for dessert and he didn't love it but I thought it was very good! (Yes, I had a bite of his dessert). I had the chocolate soufflé which was warm and nice. Not the best I've had but it was something different and I enjoyed it. Service was much slower in the dining room tonight but that could have been because Lobster night is more popular and more people could've have been dining.

The Seas have been sort of rough and we've been rocking a lot since yesterday. My stomach has been sort of upset all day so I'm hoping the Seas calm down tomorrow. We are heading out to enjoy some other events. Tomorrow is sadly our last full day and we will be packing :-(. We also have a special invitation for a bridge tour which should be a nice experience for us and the boys.

  7. TY for pics inside jamies. again you post pics of stuff i had never researched/seen. i dont know how much it is alacarte but the pic was underwhelming from an atmosphere perspective. i'm nowhere near a fine diner but compared to something like la cuchina italian on the Breakaway, jamies looked like a cafeteria. now it wont keep me away necessarily but i at least have other expectations then. and metal chairs. dang. id expect that in the buffet maybe. my butt needs something a bit more comfy

Lol. Yes, the metal chairs are a bit rough. They had some tables with cushioned chairs but it looked like only a few. Not sure why they did that. It's not a "fancy" style Italian restaurant. They have Chops with the table cloths and nice atmosphere but that's harder to get a reservation. The Italian restaurant on Independence was a bit more fancy looking so I guess it's whatever style the ship is looking to have. Like my husband said, it depends if you really want to pay more money to eat there. The food wasn't bad though.

  8. We just completed the Escape Room and I'm glad we did it, it was a lot of fun!! I can't give much info because I do not want to give away the clues and information. We did it as a family and I'm so proud of us. We had a full group with a bunch of strangers and the main goal is to work together and communicate. Important clues can only be solved by utilizing most of the group together. I honestly was nervous and thought I'd look stupid and not be useful. I was so very wrong. I solved multiple clues and my husband and 14 yr old son was a huge part of figuring things out through the hour. I'm impressed with my 14 yr old for being so smart and being a leader amongst adults. My 17 yr old showed strength in finding the physical objects needed. It was a really nice group of people. You always have 1 guy that likes to be a bit bossy and annoying. Regardless, I had a blast and highly recommend doing it!

Here is a picture of most of our group after completing it. The staff member was a nice blonde woman in the back right corner. (Some people didn't want to be in the picture).

  9. Sushi class sounds likes lots of fun. So glad you and your son enjoyed it. Wondering if they ask about food allergies. I am allergic to crab. No California rolls for me!!! Do you need to eat the sushi at the class? Would love to bring it back to the cabin. Sitting on our balcony with a glass of wine would be heaven.

Good questions.. you can tell them about any allergies and the chef did acknowledge that you can substitute the Crab if you have allergies. My stomach was queasy this morning from all the food we've been eating and the rocking of the ship so I didn't want to eat my sushi (especially at 11:30am)... not a problem. They give you containers at the end to pack up your sushi and bring it back to your room or wherever you want to go with it. They even give you chopsticks and soy packets if you want. 413bf29609ce868be05cf112a68d850c.jpg

  10. My 14 year old son and I did the Sushi making class this morning at Izumi, started at 10am and was done by 11:50. It was a big class and yet it felt very personal and was a lot of fun. It's $30 a person; we ran into someone after embarking and signed up directly with him. I believe you can also sign up on the Royal IQ app as well as at the restaurant. The staff was very friendly and very concerned about being sanitary so you do wash your hands and wear a hat, apron and gloves. Everything was done slowly and simply, the chef went around to everyone personally after each thing. He also tried to make it as fun as possible as well as interactive. I highly recommend the class if you have time and like a little sushi. Don't have to be a sushi lover, even if you just like a California roll you would find it fun. The class had a lot of kids too so this is for young and old.

  11. Good afternoon... I was too tired last night to post our experiences with We Will Rock You and the late night Comedy. People will strongly disagree with us but, we did not like We Will Rock You. I'm quite shocked that we only see good reviews and nothing negative. Maybe because we see too many Broadway shows in NYC or because I've always been a huge musical fan but, the storyline was annoying and the vocals (especially the lead singer) was not up to par. There were also technical difficulties a few times, causing delays and they also lost quite a few audience members because of it. I don't hold technical difficulties against them and felt bad that they lost audience specifically for that. Or people could have been using it as an excuse to leave if they weren't liking it, who knows. We stayed because I was waiting to love the show. I was super excited to see the show, which could have also been part of the disappointment. Dru (cruise director) even came out at one time to buy some time while they fix a problem.8f398607b07147a6836dfefc84ab33de.jpg5145b407ecd8b976515c3a9d20f46d05.jpg He is funny and I like him a lot. Anyway, I didn't like a lot of the roles and was yawning through most of the show. I can see why most people would love it but for me, I saw it as watching some high school play. I didn't like The Gift but I hate to say that I think I enjoyed The Gift more than We Will Rock You; the vocals matched the songs better and had more amazing visual effects. Please don't be nasty or take offense to my review... please keep in mind that this is my personal review and I fully know that most people enjoy the show. I liked the very ending and wish the show itself was more like that.

Moving on... late night Comedy last night started at 11:45pm, starring Jim David. It was great!! Totally made up for our unhappiness with the We Will Rock You show. I'm glad we stayed up for that. What else can I say, it was funny.

  12. We ate at Jamie's Italian and overall, we enjoyed it. The chairs are hard metal and not the most comfortable but, the service and food was enjoyable. We ordered multiple appetizers which included the ultimate garlic bread, crispy squid (fried calamari) and Crab/avocado Bruschetta. The garlic bread is very soft and tasty. The calamari was actually good but the breading must have a spice/pepper in it because it was a bit spicy. I cannot eat spicy food (due to stomach issues) so I had to give it all to my husband. I wasn't sure if I liked the bruschetta at first because I tasted more lemon than I did avocado but I ended up enjoying it the more I ate.

I ordered the penne carbonara and really liked it and would recommend it. It wasn't oily like I've had before at other Italian restaurants. My husband ordered the lasagna and wasn't able to finish it. It had a very weird taste to us, not like a traditional lasagna we know and love. We are from New York so our knowledge of Italian food and restaurants is different than this menu.

For dessert we ordered the brownie sundae and I also ordered a side of their homemade salted caramel ice cream. My husband and I loved the brownie dessert; I enjoyed the salted caramel ice cream but my husband didn't like it.

The Captain stopped by to say hi to everyone while dining. A woman kept coming over to check on us too, sort of strange because she seemed almost desperate for us to like them or let them know of any problems; it was good but a little over the top. I also want to mention that they had a lot of empty tables, we had a 6:30pm reservation and most tables were empty when we got there and was sort of the same when we left. I did like the place and would recommended trying them.

  13. My husband earned his Scuba Certification today in Nassau, Bahamas. I'm sure he can post about his experience. I was on my own with the boys today and we enjoyed the excursion offered through the ship, called "Seaworld Explorer". They put us on a transport boat to take us out to the other boat which has a bottom level to it, sort of like a submarine. The ride out to the 'submarine' boat was a lot of fun, not long at all and the guide was very funny. He had everyone laughing and smiling. You then cross over to the other boat while it's in the water and they direct you downstairs. It was more roomy than I expected and every single person has a window. It felt like a long time, I think about 45 minutes, of moving around and learning about the ocean life. We saw lots of fish and some stingrays. People mentioned a shark and turtle but I didn't see them. Then we got back onto the other boat which brought us back to land. We had a good time and it was an enjoyable excursion, not too long either! I would recommend it.

  14. TY For the amazing pics of the cabana area. the setup/ropes/food/beach/rocks are all important things to someone who hasnt been there before.

it appears you cannot really be in the water near the cabanas with all those rocks but if you just want to relax and have a view and great food, seems like the place to be. also nice to know you have the concierge there somewhat watching your stuff and keeping the riff raff out. not that i bring more than ID and a bit of money.

and the perspective of the public area and that beach is a very good pic! nice to know not a far walk either. its probably about the same as on great stirrup. i had walked to the 'third beach' from the tenders for a bit less crowded area.

also if you remember what was on the wonderful buffet that would be cool

Hi, thank you. I wish I took pictures of the food setup because it's better than I can describe. They had everything from some cold salads, seafood skewers, rice and beans, jerk chicken, amazing tender pork Chops, delicious ribs, steak, hot dogs and hamburgers with all the toppings, and dessert such as fresh soft cookies and cakes. This is only the stuff I can recall right now, I know there was more. Plus fruit, there is always fruit. They even left a fruit plate in our Cabana at some point, they are sneaky lol. They also have a table with ice cold water, soda and fruit punch. Then you also have the bar if you want anything more. The staff was wonderful, so polite and helpful in anyway possible. There are plenty of tables too for eating, no stress about finding a table to sit down like you deal with at the Windjammer sometimes.

I forgot to mention that they also have carts (golf carts as I call them) to transfer you around if you want. I walked where I needed but saw plenty of people enjoying the cart ride to someplace else on the island they wanted to go (if you don't want to really walk).

  15. Did you do the iFly? IMHO, It is great fun!!! (And a great perk for everyone on the Anthem as iFly facilities on land can be quite pricey.) My husband I have taken turns standing outside of the "flight" tube so we can get photos and videos of each other. If you have not yet signed up ask Ricardo for his assistance.

Good morning. Yes, I totally forgot to post about our iFly experience. We did go yesterday after getting back from CocoCay. Unfortunately, even though I'm like 30 pounds under the maximum weight, the suit did not really fit me. It was too tight and I was uncomfortable, after we barely got it zippered. So just my husband and two sons did it. It was a great experience and I highly recommend it. Everyone looks silly so no reason to be embarrassed. I actually grouchy I took video of everyone but I screwed up and only got a video of one of my boys. I'm bummed about that. I wish they had a photographer there specifically for that, I heard someone is there sometimes but not always. There wasn't one yesterday. So I have no pictures or video of my husband and 17 yr old, only a video of my 14 yr old. My 17 year old was funny too, he kept kicking his legs like he was swimming and had a hard time with it, probably the worst one in the group lol. It's okay though, he had fun and got the hang of it toward the end of his time. You go through a little training video and learn the hand signs, then suit up and go out there. Everyone only gets like a minute inside the actual wind tunnel but it does look long enough.

I recommend it if you can get it reserved!

Now, I'm going to attempt to wake my teenage boys for breakfast. My husband left around 7am. We don't have to get off until 10:45am.

  16. The Silent Party is pretty cool. Everyone gets headphones and you have two different 'stations' to listen to. You can flip the switch on the left side to either blue or green, each playing a different style of music. The dance floor quickly filled up and people were dancing all over, not just the dance floor. It's funny to watch and cool at the same time. You can take off your headphones and take it all in, watching everyone party and have fun without the music playing aloud. You do hear people singing along with what they are listening to. Me and my husband can listen to different music and still enjoy lol. This took place in the Music Hall tonight but I know they have had it in Two70 as well. I would recommend being part of it if you haven't already done so, even if you just "people watch" lol. It's basically like going to a club but it's made for all ages and everyone has a great time together, young and old. And you are in control of the music and loudness that you want (or don't want).

  17. Dinner tonight in the MDR

We started with the coconut shrimp appetizers which were quite fresh and delicious.

My husband and I both ordered the Braised lamb. We aren't really lamb lovers so I only ate a little bit but I will say that it was very tender and yummy, I just don't like lamb itself and just wanted to try it. We also ordered the beef Wellington to try and that was very tender and good.

For dessert my husband ordered carrot cake and was happy with it. I ordered the royal chocolate cake again, it's okay but I don't think it's anything special.bcf09ee04c775c81a55fa5b83e9307e0.jpg44d7a9afa1d65abf56d0743a58ff46f0.jpg0da14a277cafbd3859b91a5abee93cd0.jpg2cdb9b337c3d72aeb66ec71ff2e2d300.jpg

We have a 9pm show tomorrow night(We Will Rock You) so we can't do our 8:15 dinner. We decided to make reservations for Jamie's Italian so I will let you know tomorrow night how that was. I've heard mixed reviews and look forward to trying it for ourselves.

We are going to one of the "silent dance parties" in a few minutes (if my husband wakes up from his short nap). I've heard about it and look forward to seeing it in action.

  18. sromano516 - ANTHEM is one of my favorite ships in the Royal Fleet! I am partial to the bigger ships but they do not go to all of the parts of the world we have been to and and have plans for. We enjoyed the different dining room menus in the 4 free restaurants on Anthem and Quantum before Royal made the change to having same menu in all venues. It was very creative dining and it is too bad Royal did away with it (oh those complainers...) We will be back on the Anthem again for New Year's Eve.

Concierge Lounge on the Anthem is for D+ and Grande Suite and above. Before we became D+ we had nice times in the D lounge. You can grab a cocktail or specialty coffee and go into the theatre - very convenient. In the evening when crowded they open the door (to the top floor of the Music Hall) for more seating and tables. We enjoy our dinners in Coastal Kitchen and Jamie's. We've also had dinner in the Solarium restaurant. If I could only get my husband to agree again to Wonderland...Can you please ask Ricardo how long he will be the Concierge in the Concierge lounge. Thanks and enjoy the rest of your cruise...

If able to, I will try to ask Ricardo how long he plans on staying around, if he knows. I am enjoying the ship and would go on again if the right opportunity came along. We have a Carnival Cruise booked for next year. There are pros and cons with every fleet, every ship.
