  1. Yep great news, can now go up to a good bar I know on 57th st and should leave about 7am Thursday.

The whole trip has been great as is the ferry service from Red hook to wall st.

    And a proper crossing yay.

  2. Thanks for taking the time to post this information.

We will be boarding on Friday for the 12 night Caribbean segment.

I'm happy to hear Chris Wells will be our captain.

    See you on board.

    No problem.

  3. We joined the Qm2 yesterday on the 26 night round trip and thought I would post this for those interested.

The Captain is now Chris Wells

Hotel General Manager is Robert Howie

Entertainment Director is now Paul O'Loughlin

    Senior Maitre d'hôtel is Osman.

These are things I wanted to know so hope it helps those who are interested.

  4. Just a curious question. Some cruise lines allow passengers to cancel standard tipping and make own arrangements. Some won't allow and others are adopting ever different policies. What is the situation with Cunard?

With sister companies of Carnival such as Princess and P&O and presumably Carnival themselves they allow passengers to cancel tips, remain and even increase, tip individuals etc.

    What is the Cunard perspective

Cunard will charge you on the next day ,you may then remove it or leave it on, entirely up to you what you wish to do.

  5. For all those who were kind enough to help us by contributing to this thread, many thanks; we are now back from our QM2 voyage and had a fantastic day in NYC.

Cunard did lay on a transfer bus it cost $49 each and left Redhook at 0730 - it dropped us in East 34th street just near Macys at around 0810. The rest of the day we walked it. We made our way up 7th avenue through times square then across to 6th avenue via a nice Starbucks then up to 59th st where we met our horse drawn carriage and had a fantastic tour around Central Park. Then back down 5th Avenue via a lunch stop, the beautiful St Patricks cathedral and countless shops back to Macys which had a sale on and where we got some very nice household stuff, clothing and shoes. Look at the watch 1400hrs time for the bus back to the ship. Sore feet but a lovely day.

We are doing the same thing next month , so the bus leaves Macys at about 2pm now?

Always used to be about 3.30.

  6. Captain Christopher Wells came on the ship in Quebec on September 29th. You can tell when he is the master because the ship will be flying the Blue Ensign instead of the Red Ensign. (He is currently the only Cunard captain who is an active or retired member of the Royal Navy Reserve and thus the Blue Ensign.) Captains are typically on/off every two months. Outside of the world voyage the changeover normally takes place in Southampton.

Cheers, was trying to work out who the captain will be for our 15th December round trip.

Looks like it won't be Captain Wells.

  7. Always said that cruise lines that take auto gratuities the whole amount does not go to the staff as they have you believe but they take a percentage for administration costs. Even more reason to stop the obscene practice of auto gratuities and 15% on top of already very expensive drinks. There should be no auto gratuity then you should tip who deserves in cash and they should be allowed to keep it. All other "behind the scenes" staff should be paid a decent wage by the cruise line and not have to rely on tips.

    Agree 100%

  8. Although I've been on several Cunard voyages I have never once used the casino, believe me I have nothing against gambling but I just haven't done it.

We have a TA next year with ample OBC attached to it, more then we probably will spend on the normal things and...if it's possible...we may want to hit the casino. So that's my question, can you gamble using OBC?

If you can, how does it work? Again, I've never been in the casino before so I don't know what to do.

Do you put your card into the slot machine for example to start gambling? If you win does it go

back into your account and if it does how do you cash out (since I know OBC is it a use or lose it situation).

Sorry for all the questions but hopefully someone can help me with this! thanks.

No you can't use OBC in the casino .
