Take a good look at Princess. We are veteran cruisers having two Alaska trips under our belt. One was just the inside passage, round trip Vancouver, the other a Cruise tour from Fairbanks to Whittier. In our opinion no one does Alaska better than Princess or Holland America.

New look is great. Nice surprise !

This is from the fact sheet given us on our October 12, 1991 cruise on the Regal.

Maxium PAX Capacity -- 1742
Normal Crew -- 660

We have easily made 11:30 lights by doing walk off and having reservations on the Blue Super Shuttle. I would hesitate using Princess transfers with your time frame.

Thanks for the great pictures ! After looking at them I went through some of my old cruise folders and from our 1991 cruise I found a picture from the bridge (remember the bridge tours) and in that picture was Captain Cesare Ditel. I also found a bar bill for a Strawberry Margarita, strawberries, lime and tequila ..... the cost $2.00. Total cost of 7 day Caribbean cruise (Balcony Stateroom) was $2260. Oh the memories !

We sailed on her three times, the first being in 1991, her inaugural season. We loved the Casino in the dome and the Pizzeria. She was beautiful !

We have used insurance twice, once on RCI and once on Princess. To keep a long story short had we not purchased insurance for about $400 total we would have lost about $4700. Don't leave home without it !!

We ave done the cruise tour with Princess and are doing it again this August. I would say Southbound. We are in our 70's and although the trip from from Fairbanks to Whittier is magnificent it is a bit tiring. Nice to have 7 days aboard the ship to relax.

Do they still have the "departure tax" in effect. We have not been through the airport in about 4 years. Last time they caught people by surprise. We thought it was a bit expensive particularly if you had a couple kids.

We sailed on her in Jan with sort of an "oh well, we'll see what she is like" attitude. We were wowed. Your review is spot on. We can,t wait to sail on her again when she starts her 10 day voyages in 2015. Great review !

$4000 ? Probably because she just arrived in Port Everglades. We sailed the Royal in January, in Mini Suite M228 and paid a total of less than $2800 including the insurance. I think it was $1380pp + insurance.

On October 23rd of 2010 we did a straight 14 day Caribbean Cruise on the Grand Princess. This was just prior to her going into dry dock to have the shopping cart handle removed. I don't believe she ever resumed the 14 day itinerary. Let me say the 14 day itinerary was wonderful. Ports were Aruba, Curacao,Grenada,Barbados,St Vincent, Antiqua, St Thomas and San Juan with 5 sea days tossed in. I doubt you will ever see this itinerary again.

Has anyone heard of the notes the Regal's horn will play ? I wonder if they will stay with the Royal's " Love exciting and new" or maybe go to the next few bars "The love boat soon will be making another run." Really anxious to find out.

Thanks for the fast reply. This is the info I am looking for.

Considering CNE cruise in Oct from Quebec to Fort Lauderdale. Airfare from Detroit to Quebec and Ft Lauderdale to Detroit extremely high. The flight requires multiple layovers in route to Quebec. We could fly to Montreal and train to Quebec. The air to Montreal is about $300 cheaper and flight schedule better but after adding the train fare it's about the same. Is anyone familiar with taking the train from Montreal to Quebec? Any idea of the cab fare from the airport to the train station ? Thanks for the help.

I am sure the answer to my question is somewhere in these posts but I can't find it ! What is the train travel time between Denali and Whittier ? Thanks in advance !

We received a tube of "Lotus Spa" lotion on the Royal a couple of weeks ago.

We had a forward Mini Suite, M228, at it was beautiful. Marina deck is 15. We just walked up one flight of stairs, across the pool deck and into the Horizon Court. The court is beautiful. The Mini Suite itself was everything we could want. It was spacious with a couch and two large TV sets. The bathroom is large with a great tub and shower. We also had plenty of storage room. The small balcony did not faze us at all. Try it! You will not be disappointed.

We were also in walk off "C". We waited in the long line and finally there was a couple of vans offered at $11pp and we took the offer. I can't imagine what the line was when general debarkation began.

Nice review! We on the cruise with you and agree with your comments. We are not walkers anymore so the Promenade Deck thing did not affect us. Also, we were on deck 15 and there were stairs going to 16 so for us it was convenient. The shows, Colors of the World and Extravaganza were brilliant, but as you said, short. The entire cast was magnificent. Our big complaint was the Internet Room. It was too small and on the busiest day, Saturday, the only printer was down all day. Waiting lines were out the door. I asked why they could not route the printer to another printer on board. He said they couldn't do it. That said, Royal is a beautiful ship. Weigh all the reviews you read and then book her. We had 99% positive experiences. We still prefer the Crown, Sapphire, Emerald etc but we are happy we experienced Royal Princess.

When docking in San Francisco the Starboard side gives you a view the city while the Port side overlooks the Oakland Bay Bridge. It is beautiful at night. In San Diego the Starboard side give you a better view of the city. While at sea it makes no difference.

We may be wrong but we feel our cruise has not ended until the morning of disembarkation although we would not make an issue of the situation. To answer the question, no, this has never happened.

We have the Golden, Grand (one with the old shopping cart and one after it was removed), Crown, Caribbean and Sapphire. When we on the Island they were not in stock. They are about 7 inches long. We paid $9.95 but I think price may have increased a bit. We are hopping the Royal will have them when we sail in January.
