  1. Sorry for the huge photo dump. There was so much beauty I couldn't resit. I put them into a slide show movie on my Travel with Jim_Iain group. On the way home it started raining and ended up raining pretty hard all night. Luckily it cleared just after sunrise. --- Iain was up by 9:00 AM and we went for breakfast with Lucy... We met a Katherine and Linda from our Cruise Critic Fan. She was happy to learn of the breakfast items that are not advertised in Michael's Club. It's the secret menu.... LOL
  2. Kaliko-Honokohahau at last. A very magical place taking you back in time. Gentle winds were blowing fragrant scents of flowere, the gentle crashing of waves and the sounds of wild birds enhanced the natural serenity.
  3. For about 1 1/2. Hour no gas station, coffee shops or stores. Finally we found a McDonald. What the heck. Sticker Shock $25 for a small meal. This is the Coffee Shack @Mauimar spoke of. Views are incredible
  4. I ran to the airport and got the car. Then off we went. One thing we noticed was the diversity of the island. The first half of the drive took us west climbing to about 3,000 ft. First through the Hilo Watershed Forest Reserve. We then went through an absolute desert where they have a military training grounds. Probably desert training.
  5. Time to catch up--- Here's the LONG route Iain planned (inadvertently) for yesterday. I have to say I got some mileage out of it and today --- I was King. He said he would do whatever I wanted and I drug him ragged in just 1/2 a day.
  6. Will have to give it a try next time we are there... Looks like a HUGE meal.
  7. I got my car from Enterprise at the Airport. Possibly they are the cheapest thus this line to pick it up. It took me about an hour waiting to get a car. Uber costed about $12 and is about 10 minutes away. Check both Uber and Lyft prices. Uber was cheaper for me going but more expensive coming back.
  8. Those tropical flowers are always so beautiful. Maybe I'll pick some up in Kona.
  9. You should write books.... love how you bring all of your senses to bear in your description.... all you need was some Elephant essence on your tongue... I will keep endurance in mind I'm noticing as I get older it is a bit more difficult. Them old joints just don't move the way they use to. I'm sure that's why Doctor keeps encouraging me to keep moving.
  10. Right after lunch we saw the Coffee Shack. Looks like fantastic views. Wish we had waited. Who knows.... maybe tomorrow...
  11. I talked with the Sommelier in Luminae. He says the ones on the menu are only those that they are featuring. He will work with customers and can get anything from any of the restaurants even the specialties that are under the package price. Just ask. im in Luminae and these are the reds she has.
  12. Back in time to get ready for dinner. Sneak peek. Arrived right on schedule in Hilo Lucy bringing us our morning ritual. She is so good. She picks up on your every need.
  13. When I first met my first boyfriend we would have lunch there everyday. It's really funny - I remember a whole in the wall place right across the street on the corner that had a fantastice out door patio for brunch. It truly was one of my favorites for just a Papaya, Juice Eggs and Coffee. Now I'm really showing my age but I think it was $5.99. LOL
  14. Africa sounds wonderful. Going to have to start researching.
  15. Definitely Mike. I feel like your a long lost brother after all of these years. Our trip today may be fascinating after I recover but Ugh.... I'm exhausted. Iain wanted to go to Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Park. Until I was half way there I didn't realize it was in Kona where we will be in 2 days. We ended up doing a big loop around the big Island. It was fun but exhausting 6 hours of exploring. I think 4 of it driving with stops along the way
  16. No problem with Squab. It's just a bird. I've had Pigeon in the Netherlands and Sparrow in France. Even though I use to live on Quail Run I loved quail. I just don't let they species bother me. I remember as a kid when my dog caught a squirrel and my Grandfather taught me how to skin it for dinner.
  17. Time for some requested food porn. Last night was the first Chic night. Noticed very few jackets and only one woman in a beautiful dress Appetizer was a huge Roasted Squab. for a main I had the Herb crusted Lamb Loin. Very tender and Tasty
  18. They were comfy but if I recall they showed their age really quickly basking in the sun every day.
  19. I'll give it a pass... I really don't like hot spicy... I like a little heat but all too often I get food which too much spice. No my daughter is the total opposite.
  20. OK... all this talk about drinks made me adventurous. Instead of my regular Alcohol Free - Fre I had Lucy make me a VIRGIN Pina Colada Unfortunately no Pineapple 🍍 garnish.
  21. Andy said it wasn't that spicy... She is from Arizona so loves really hot...
  22. Perfect way to travel. Save the Caribbean for when you are old and want to stay closer to home. I'll be honest .... Africa is on my Bucket List --- I know it sounds lame but I want to go on a Safari. Ugh... you can imagine me getting Iain out of bed for a trek across the Serengeti at sunrise. OK.... maybe i leave him in bed to be eaten by a Lion.
  23. The only negative is that glass partition between the bedroom and living room. While it allows light in vs the M-Class total darkness... It allows light to pour in ---disturbing those that sleep late. Iain's going to buy some eye shades today.
