  1. Thank you but Sorry let me clarify. We are not so much concerned with the SW tickets but rather the cost of our cruise fare ($4,600.00), plus excursions etc. CFAR coverage requires us to insure every penny of our trip even SW tickets that get reimbursed as travel funds (from what we understand). The insurance professional told us that just because we used $25 of airfare travel funds (obtained a year ago) to pay for part of our trip, that would take us out of eligibility to purchase CFAR insurance now even though we only paid for our cruise last week on February 17th. That seems like a harsh policy if so.
  2. Hello. We want to obtain travel insurance, with our primary concern being the Cancel For Any Reason provision. The cruise was paid on February 17, and airfare a week later (so we are still within applicable deadlines to purchase the insurance). A portion of our airfare was paid with travel funds from Southwest issued well prior to the applicable deadlines. An insurance professional told me that the use of travel funds to purchase the airfare technically took us out of the ability to purchase CFAR insurance (even though it was only $25.00 worth of flight funds). Is this accurate? If accurate, can we simply cancel our flights and rebook without using travel funds? Has anyone dealt with this and have thoughts? Thank you.
  3. Sounds great! So glad Alfredo's is included in the regular cruise fare! (We were on NCL last month and there were not many complimentary dining places besides the buffet and MDR).
  4. Thank you for all that! That pizza looks amazing...hard to tell, are they personal size or bigger? Is that the Juice bar that's included with the Plus Package? Thanks!
  5. Echoing everyone else...Be prepared and layer! We went in late September a few years ago...Juneau was only the real drizzly/foggy port so we had our rain gear there, but Ketchikan and Skagway were pretty mild and sunny. We bought water resistant shoes and rain jacket to layer over warmer clothes. We're going in mid-May this year so will see how that goes!
  6. Sorry if it's been answered before, but I believe that the Plus Package does include bottled water. So how does that work? Do you just go up to the Bar and request a bottled water whenever you want? Anywhere else besides a Bar you can obtain one? I assume International Cafe? (Royal Princess). Is there a limit per person at any one time? Thanks
  7. Thank you for all this! That's too bad about the MDR being so crowded...is that even with reservations? And only at dinner time? We were hoping to dine there often for our May Alaska cruise (we are a group of 9 and I know it's highly doubtful we will sit together at all). Glad that we at least have Alfredo's and the Grill (in addition to the Buffet).
  8. Thank you! Great to hear as that is where we ended up booking last week. Do you recall if there are any dinner restaurants (fast food even) that are walkable (assuming it's safe to do so)? Thanks
  9. Have a great time! Taking the Royal to Alaska in May; if you get to any of these questions: 1) Best indoor scenic viewing spots 2) Free dining establishments besides MDR and buffet (Alfredo's and Trident?)--what's the menu like? 3) Any Children's activities outside of the kids club area, i.e. arcade? 4) Any indoor pool or jacuzzi areas (besides the spa)? 5) Complimentary room service menu 6) How is Medallion working? And WIFI working? Thanks!
  10. We are doing the Royal in May. We needed a sofa bed for our son (who's 4) so that was only available in the deluxe balcony or higher. You can also fit a 4th person in the deluxe balcony with the upper pullman bed. Next category up would be the mini suite and that's also just a sofa bed and pullman bed but it looks like there might be a curtain separating the main bed and sofa area (also bigger room and bathroom).
  11. Thank you. I was going to ask if there were any indoor good spots if the weather is really bad...I guess Crooners is it?
  12. Hello: Sailing with our 4 1/2 year old to Alaska on Royal in mid-May; from what I see, the kids club for his age looks pretty nice but is it the only activity for kids his age onboard? I don't believe the Royal has an arcade outside of the teen club ( (We were on the NCL Bliss last month and they had a separate arcade area that he loved) or even a splash pad/water play area (although doubt we will be able to do much, if any, outdoor activities for an Alaskan cruise in May). I thought I read there was mini golf as well although I can't find that.. Just trying to plan this out to see how he will be occupied when the kids club is closed. Thanks!
  13. We did the Ruby Princess in 2017 from Seattle (so "outside" passage) and I don't remember it being extremely rough and it was even one of the last sailings in mid-September. But I would definitely try to book as middle of the ship/mid deck as you can; maybe also wear a sea band and bring Dramamine in case! We are sailing on the Royal this May (also from Seattle); we chose this ship because it does stop in Glacier Bay unlike Discovery Princess but I'm a little bummed that it doesn't have an observation lounge like Ruby had Skywalkers, or a Promenade. Hoping we will still have some good viewing areas.
  14. I would assume poster is referring to testing of the dock following the repairs.
  15. Hello: We booked our May Royal Princess cruise primarily for the itinerary (including Glacier Bay) but am a bit bummed that the ship has no observation lounge and I believe no real Promenade deck. We do have a balcony room on the Emerald deck but any other good viewing spots, especially on Glacier Bay day (both inside and out?). Thanks!
  16. Thank you. We are doing a Princess excursion on the White Pass railway where a shuttle was supposed to pick us up to take us to the train station. I would think that the shuttle would pick us up at the other pier then.
  17. Hello: We haven't been able to obtain a consistent answer on this: Which rooms on the Crown Princess have either a sofa bed or some kind of lower bed (even a rollaway)--is it just the mini suites? Could we get a rollaway for an Ocean view room? My 4 year old cannot sleep on an upper Pullman bed so we need something lower (I know on the Royal Princess, the sofa beds are in deluxe balconies and above but it doesn't seem the case for the Crown). Thanks!
  18. Hello: Jumping in late here since we just booked--our Royal Princess cruise is scheduled to be in Skagway in mid-May. Forgive my ignorance but based on what I've read, would our ship likely require bussing or tendering as well or would we be at another dock? Thanks https://www.cruisehive.com/alaska-port-rockslide-work-to-be-done-by-cruise-season/94215
  19. Hello: We will be doing a big family Princess cruise in May (9 of us) with stops in Juneau, Glacier Bay, Skagway, Ketchikan and Victoria. My husband and I did this exact same itinerary back in 2017 so we really want our family members (who have never been on a cruise, let alone to Alaska) to have a wonderful experience just like we did. However we will be more limited in activities this time around given the demographics of our group which include: A 4 year old boy, an elderly woman and another family member with a physical handicap (who will likely need a scooter for the longer walks). We also do not have a big budget and given that there are 9 of us, we want to focus on just a couple of excursions. Here is what we are considering: 1) Skagway: roundtrip on the White Pass Railway (my husband and I previously did the one way bus up to Carcross and lake Bennett and railway back but I think the RT train would be easier this time with our group). 2) Juneau: We were considering the Princess excursion that does 90 min at Glacier Gardens and 90 min at Mendenhall Glacier; we are hoping that those in our group with limited mobility will at least be able to walk the photo point trail to see the glacier? I don't think that the Nugget Falls trail will be doable with a 4 year old but it's been 6 years since I was there so correct me if I'm wrong. Also, would you recommend the Mt. Roberts Tramway as opposed to Glacier Gardens in mid-May? 3) Ketchikan: We are only here for a few hours so probably just planned on going to Creek Street (and to save our money); is there a city shuttle or tram we could take there for those who cannot walk? 4) Victoria: We don't arrive until 7 p.m. so I was hoping we could just take a shuttle from the Port to see the City. Any other suggestions or input? Thanks!
  20. Did you ever reach a conclusion about this? We are looking into travel insurance now for our May Alaska cruise and that's a concern as to whether Canada will re-impose their COVID restrictions.
  21. Hello: Any good or bad experiences with Zurich travel insurance provided through a certain big box retailer OR with Nationwide travel insurance? Nationwide is approximately $180 more but has better "cancel for any reason" coverage (75% vs 50% with Zurich). (This would be for an Alaska cruise in May). Thank you
  22. Thanks!. Yes, planned on an airport hotel…any recommendations?
  23. Hello, Looking for a clean, safe and reasonably priced place for one night stay prior to our Princess Alaska cruise in mid May. We will be arriving late the night before. Ideally one that has a free shuttle from the airport and shuttle service to Pier 91 the next day (for a fee of course). It will be for 9 of us, including one child. thanks!
  24. Hello: I was taking a look at your post and was wondering if you knew what the procedure was like if the staff needed to reach you about your child...do they give pagers, is there a messaging system, etc.? We are doing Royal to Alaska in May with a 4 year old. (I'm asking because we just got off a NCL cruise last month where we had to tell them what deck we planned to be on and they had no way of communicating with the parents otherwise; once I even got a voicemail on our stateroom phone which we did not see until well after we had picked up our son). Thanks!
  25. Thank you. Yes, I was trying to do that (on another retailer site) but it wasn't very clear. I will try Princess's website too. From what I gathered, it would have to be a deluxe balcony room...
