  2. You will find the exact locations of all the new and forthcoming hotels on this map: Cruise Port Everglades Hotels.

Just zoom in on the Las Olas area.

I was in that area just a few months ago and the downtown area is really taking off - lots of construction. In a year or so the area will look very different and with more visitors around, more vibrant.

Still after dark I would take the shuttle service because it is just a bit too far to walk down to the Las Olas strip in my opinion. And with 5 or so restaurants on the premises you probably do not need to wander out for dinner!

I've eaten at Top Hat deli around the corner and recommend it highly for lunch if in the area. Would not drive far to go there though. Expensive...

Thanks for all of the info and map!

BNBR, thanks for clarifying my lack of FL geography and restating that I would still be in the area of Las Olas if we stay at the Element.

Anybody with a favorite restaurant (any style of food) for a nice dinner in Las Olas if we venture out of the hotel?

  3. We’re actually sailing in a SV next April on the Reflection, and the price HAS already gone up since it was booked a little over a month ago. There are only 3 left for our sailing and we’re looking forward to our first “aft experience” based on the raves of others and being in probably the most quiet area of the the ship due to very little passenger traffic.

However, we also sailed the Reflection in an Aqua Spa Suite (only on the Reflection) in 2013 and absolutely loved dining in Blu and having a personal connection made with the staff who identified you by name after just the 1st dinner. Although you dined at your choice of time for dinner, the staff always remembered and accommodated us with our type of table preference whenever we arrived. BTW, the upgraded shower in the cabin was great. 45ed600639b786a50115500a6d0ef26b.jpg

  4. Just wanted to clarify the location of the hotel since I originally just said N Federal Highway at 3rd. It is NE 3rd Street, and it looks very close to the Greyhound Bus Terminal. I would still like to hear from someone that is local regarding the safety of walking around that area and what things there are to do in the area. Since I didn’t specify 3rd as NE 3rd Street, I’m not sure this is in the Las Olas area as poster BNBR said previously.

  5. Has anyone used there online pre-ordering in the Cayman Islands for liquor orders or am I better off finding one of their shops on the island and making my purchase there? They carry s banana rum cream from Jamaica that cannot be purchased in the US.

I guess your 10 day Ultimate Caribbean Cruise must have different ports or port times than our 11 day on April 1. I guess we just lucked out with the times on our itinerary. We’ll take great care of the Reflection for you so you can have a great trip right after ours. [emoji41]

  7. We are sailing on the 12th. i didnt know about 4pm reservation. interesting....did you reserve through TA or Celebrity direct?

The reservation is from 9am to 9pm, but is charged as a port day instead of a sea day even though the ship is sailing UNTIL 4pm when it arrives in Aruba. I booked it directly through Celebrity.

  8. We have reserved an alcove for our upcoming Ultimate Southern Caribbean Sailing in April. We are new to Celebrity. What is a seafood tower?

Is the loud music the band?

Which sailing are you taking in April? We’re sailing on April 1 and have reserved our Alcove for the day the ship sails into Aruba at 4pm. Still counts as a port day rental.

  9. I heard that a change had already been made or was scheduled to be made to the Alcoves on the Reflection to allow them to face the sea instead of the lawn. Can anyone confirm this?

I’ve also read in some older posts on Cruise Critic that the amenities delivered to the cabana ON THE REFLECTION are either different or the same on port days versus sailing days. I have been told by both the Captain’s Club and my personal vacation planner that the amenities received are the same irregardless of the rental type of day.

Could anyone that has rented a Reflection Alcove recently elaborate on the amenities received on a port day? Thanks much!

  10. Give it some more time. Someone hopefully will have some information for you. Several locals are on this forum.

I haven't stayed in the area you are asking about, but I have stayed on 17th Street & the Renaissance & several other hotels. there's plenty of restaurants & some shopping close by. Very inexpensive to use uber or lyft. :)

Thanks, I will! Several years ago, it seemed like one of the locals VERY actively participated, but I can’t remember her username. 😁

  11. Sheesh - love the way I spelled 'entertainment'. It was not dinner. I think she's mistaken, but I wanted to double check.

A couple of weeks ago I asked my Celebrity personal vacation planner whether entertainment reservations were made on the Reflection. She told me they were not. I asked because I knew we had to make them on Royal Caribbean previously.

  12. We are currently holding a booking at the Renaissance Hotel for a pre-cruise night stay on March 31. We chose a club level room to get a breakfast included after deciding against booking the Embassy Suites.

In the mean time, I found out that the Starwood group of hotels is opening up a new 2 in 1 building hotel in downtown Fort Lauderdale this fall. They are two new brands for the hotel chain, and will be the Element Fort Lauderdale Downtown and The Dalmar, Fort Lauderdale, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel. The Dalmar is more upscale than the Element, but both look like they are going to be beautiful hotels with great shared facilities and amenities. They are located on N. Federal Highway at 3rd.

We can get a Corner King Suite at the Element, including a free hot breakfast, for approximately the same cost as the room at the Renaissance Hotel (in the 17th Street area), and the room is at least twice larger. It would be nice to be in a brand new hotel, but I'm not sure about the location as we've never stayed in that area. Could someone let us know what is around that area for dining and activities? BTW, they provide a free shuttle within a three mile radius that goes to downtown as well as the beach, so that could affect our decision.

One way or the other, we now want to make a decision between the Renaissance Hotel and the new Element. Thoughts???

  13. There are casinos within an easy, well-lit several block area. So totally walkable. Taxis are available, if you want to go further away.

If we’re looking for cocktails and some entertainment (not club music), do the casinos on Aruba offer that? In all of our cruises to the Caribbean, we’ve never stepped foot in a casino other than on the ship.

  14. Our ship will be arriving in Aruba at 4 pm and overnight until 6pm the following day. We will be remaining on the ship until around 9pm and would like to do something in port for a couple of hours after 9. Is there anywhere to go near the cruise port to experience some nightlife and is it safe to be around the port area at night?

If nothing is close by, should we take a taxi to the Palm Beach area and where would be a good place to go in that area, assuming taxis are readily available in the port area for pickups after 9 pm. Or is there a better place to go that would be busy and isn’t too far by taxi?

  15. I prefer the flexibility of working directly with the cruise line and have always found the CSRs to be very helpful. Recently, after placing my cabin on hold with Celebrity, I went to a Big Box travel site and found the same sailing, same price, same perks with an extra $200 cash back. I called my Celebrity-assigned CSR to ask about transferring the booking after paying the deposit. After a brief hold to confirm the online offer she matched it with an extra $200 OBC, which IMO works much better than $200 cash back. If you find a better offer from the BigBox folks, it costs nothing to ask...

Thanks for the suggestion! I checked online with the Big Box and would receive a $380 store credit if I transferred the booking to them. Just sent an email to my Celebrity Personal Vacation Planner to see if they would match the amount as an OBC, which I would prefer. I’ll find out Tuesday when she returns to the office.
