I was recently on Discovery where Churchill had been converted to an arcade weeks earlier. We still enjoyed cigars on Deck 17 aft. The social aspect was good if you wanted it, but you could also puff without anyone bothering you. I don’t know if staff aren’t interested, but the area was usually pretty cluttered with old drinks and trash, and all of the furniture was looking pretty old and worn.

I too was just on Discovery in mid February and was disappointed that Churchills was just converted to an arcade. Had to have my cigars on Deck 17 aft. I will concur with New2cruise that the area seems forgotten by the crew and is a mess and the furniture old, worn, and burn marks in the cushions. It was much nicer in the lounge.

  2. We just did a cruise on the Discovery Princess in February.  My DW has a issue with her lower back that is helped with a heating pad. I purchased some Therma Care air activated heating pads from Walmart. She first tried them at home before the cruise and found that the heating pad worked just as well as the electric one and it allowed her to walk around. On the cruise she would put one on before dinner and it lasted the whole evening and into the early morning if we went to Crooners or Take Five. We had no issues with taking them on the ship.

Since the restart, we’ve had towel animals nearly every cruise.  This is our most recent one.  We’ve even had a whole zoo one some cruises.

The only towel animals I saw on this cruise was at the towel bar by the pool.

    Still a great trip.

We didn't see our room steward until day two, the couple we knew onboard didn't see theirs either on the first day. No introduction, nothing.

I didn't meet our steward until the final night of the cruise. I had returned to our cabin to put our luggage out to be picked up. In the cabin I found his card on the bed. As I was putting out the luggage he showed up. He did apologize for not seeing us sooner. He explained that he had not only the cabins on the port side but also four on the starboard side, (deck 16 forward). I will say that even though we never met in person he did a fantastic job of having the room ready both in the morning and after we returned from dinner. We put post-it notes up if we needed ice or other items and requests were taken care of.

  5. For those people that need a power outlet near the bed and don't want to run an extension cord across the floor a standard 16A outlet is located under the bed on the back wall. You will need to lie on your stomach to reach the outlet. You just need an adapter and make sure that what you plug in is capable of handling the higher voltage or get an adapter with a transformer. I used the outlet on a few cruise for a CPAP machine. The CPAP power transformer was capable to be used with the 250 single phase voltage. You will find this outlet closest to the desk side of the bed.  This side of the bed is not moved when the beds are set up as doubles.

I have attached picture of that outlet.

  6. I checked with our server when I was ordering our last drinks yesterday see what our numbers were I was surprised at what the total was at that point.  I hit 14 "Pick me ups" by about midnight and the DW at 9. She says she doesn't remember having that many drinks.

    Definitely Happy Trails 🍹🍹🍺🥃🥃🥃🍷🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸

  7. We had been on one the wine tours years years ago when I was buying a few bottles wine and the price was rung up in dollars. At the bottom of the screen was the peso total. The conversion rate was way in the shops favor.  I pulled at a bundle of pesos to pay and the young lady who rung me up says "your paying in pesos?" and my reply was that is your money here right! I guess that most of the tourists pay in dollars.  In any case the wine was a great deal paying in pesos.

It's 2024. Time to stop whining like little babies and grow up. There's smoking areas outside for you to use. No staff member anywhere, in any business, should have to put up with working in an environment with smoke. They don't on land.. so why should they have to on a ship??

So the staff on 17 aft are not exposed to the smoke? Funny you should say anything about the staff when I have seen many of the Officers and some crew in Churchills lounge having a cigarette or two.

Also you are incorrect about the "They don't on land" comment.  Have you been to any of the Indian Casinos? It's a smoke fest. At least in the Churchill the smoking was contained in one room!

  9. In the wind, rain, cold, hot, or humid weather that deck 17 aft gives us! It was nice to have a place indoors with some controlled climate even if it was smokey.

Maybe I'll see you on 17 WhiskeyAndCards? I'm on the same cruise.  Just left San Diego.

  10. Went to Crooners later in the evening. Had the first if what will be many Dirty Martini's fir this trip. Was disappointed that the large olives are not available. I usually have a side with each drink. Instead the waiter gave me a glass filled with the small olives they are using.

  11. We had lunch after boarding at Gigi's Pizzeria. The wait was only about 1/2 an hour. They gave us a pager and we went over to Bellini's bar and had a few drinks. I went for a double shot of Johnnie Walker Gold and the DW had 2 Johnnie Gingers and finished with a Island Breeze that was our bartenders (Jack) specialty drink.

Ordered the Antipasto and La Sirena pizza. The DW ordered the Pizza Margherita and substituted the basil for red onion.

The food at Gigi's was very good and the service was fine.

I will post some pictures of the menu and food pictures.

Well THAT was fun - NOT! My car battery died while I was waiting in the parking lot for E! Kid you not! An hour later AAA replaced my battery and we were on our way. Thank goodness it happened near home and not at work. Now it’s time to relax and get ready for the real fun!

  13. I know they make a great Dirty Martini. Not sure about the boat of olives. Heard they have been hard to fine lately. I can report back on this after the 15th. Will be on the Discovery Princess.

The DW was having many Johnnie Ginger's,   Johnnie Walker Red with ginger ale.
