  1. you can book excursions via phone when it is a certain number of days away from your cruise - they seem a bit dated as far as tech goes at least last spring, check with your travel agent or call them directly to find out when. Once you are on board you can book dining other than the main dining room, again very low tech you need to speak to the matradee during dining hours. They allow for everyone to experience the upper outdoor "Grill" (where shorts are allowed) once and the other La Veranda restaurant for dinner at least once during the 7 day cruise. Other than that you just show up at the main dining room and let them know if you want to be seated with other guests or just your party. You will learn the "flow" of timing, people usually gather for a drink at the bar and then make their way to the dining room, if you wait a little you won't have to wait in line to get in but you may also be limited on where you will be seated.
  2. We did the Magic Mountain hike in Moorea when our excursion (ATVs) got cancelled due to weather (which turned out to be fine) We met a younger couple at the top and each took photos for the other, when I mentioned "Do you want the boat in the background?" which was our PG boat they said, it didn't matter but then we took their photo from a different angle and they said that's "our boat" in the background, an AirBnB catamaran! they said it was a husband and wife team who sailed them around, cooked for them and it was cheaper than any of the resorts. I thought it was such a cool Airbnb idea.
  3. If you can afford it do both! You have to be up for the "cruise" part, but it can be so easy and as Leejnd4 mentioned there's an added social benefit if you like meeting new people. It generally attracts people celebrating anniversaries and those who've just fallen in love with FP and become "regulars". Depending on how far you are traveling to get there and whether you will get the chance to return to FP, the PG boat really allows you to see so much in such an easy way. Each island feels like a new paradise on and off the boat. We ended our trip with a stay at an OWB which seems to be a bucket list for many and it was a perfect way to relax after a week of touring the islands. While the ship is relaxing in a different way, every day we were doing something, at the bungalows you could just look out at the beautiful sites and take it all in, my husband commented that snorkeling was our "excursion" of the day.
  4. For xpf you can get it at ATM's either at the airport or in town if you have any time in Papeete before boarding your ship. Also ATM's on Bora Bora and Moorea, not sure how easy they are to find on the other islands. As someone else commented, if you get 10000 out you will get one big bill so if you need smaller denominations you might take out smaller amounts at a time.
  5. LOVE this! thanks for sharing, to see them in person what a dream. Looks like you have to dress somewhat warmly.
  6. So fun to read about the tulips, on my bucket list for sure, did you pick the Avalon for any particular reason? I'm surprised that the tulips are in full bloom right now as I thought they started blooming earlier last month. I booked Crystal last year only for them to go under, my Dad ended up passing away at that time so it wasn't meant to be. But I plan to fulfill my bucket list in the coming years, thanks for posting your trip.
  7. Hi We were told to call PG to schedule our excursions (60 days out) The website shows our excursions but their site is not great, you can't click on them to see a description etc. I booked our excursions so long ago I wanted to read them now that we are getting close and I had to go back through the main site and find them. We did a Virgin Cruise last summer that was very app focused (almost too much in my opinion) but I get the feeling that PG and Ponant are a little behind in this area.
  8. Do the food trucks take cash only? Wondering how much cash we need for things like taxis, we haven't used any cash traveling to Europe these days, how is it in the FP?
  9. Hi! Curious if you went on your dream trip, we booked for May '23 without too much research and I'm just now reading up on everything. Would love to hear how the trip went and if it met your expectations
