  1. There are two questions I've always had:

    1.  Why does anyone want to be on a crowded and noisy pool deck with the smell of Bromine wafting through the air?  The only advantage there is the sun and it's not all that healthy to be out in it for extended periods of time.

    2.  Unrelated, but why do people eat at the buffet when there are good sit-down restaurants on board at no cost?

Even though our situation is not completely defined, certain parameters are, and he definitely has completely broken my trust and heart (he knew very well my feelings).

Sorry it happened this way.  Ultimately you're in a situation that looks like it has two options:

    1.  Don't tell him until after it's over.  (advantage = non-confrontation) (disadvantage = you have to think about it for 2 days).

    2.  Tell him now and resolve it one way or another.  Personally I would just be honest and let it go.  There's no real advantage to the alternative which is not letting it go and holding on to resentment which is just basically self-poisoning.

On the + side, better you found out now rather than later.

Eh.... This doesn't sound very concrete which sounds like the reason he felt he had wiggle room (obviously it's wrong but people justify pretty much anything when they want something).  Why blow things up?  Your stuff is already in the room, you probably are traveling back with him, yeah?

What I would do is say that I know about it, I thought things were different and would've appreciated a heads-up but it's alright and we'll just be friends from here on out and then enjoy the rest of the cruise.

This is the same cruise line that banned children who couldn’t get vaccine. You better bet your bottom dollar booster will be required within the next 6 months for those who qualify.

Children weren't banned but can't get vaccinated yet.  It'll be great to be able to try the stuff the screaming kids usually dominate like the water slide or galaxy pavillion or the race track and laser tag.  Maybe I'll even check out the arcade for once.

First note: YOU ONLY NEED THE ONE HOUR PASS. Do not do the day pass. Our group wanted to do the day pass and it was suggested to “try” the one hour and it was perfect. It took us 55 min to do everything 1 time and with the rocking on the ship... that was enough. I usually have a very tough stomach when it comes to this kind of stuff and even I was starting to feel it.

I recommend doing this once and only if you don’t have vertigo or dizziness issues!

its $29 for the 1 hour pass.

Did you do the Escape Room, too?

  6. I'm probably the only person who watch the mini documentary Embark: https://www.ncl.com/embark-series

At the end of the second episode for about half a second they showed facial recognition.  Whether that's just to identify you when wearing a mask OR for other purposes, I'm not sure.

I think of maybe 4-5 areas which require some form of identification usually via room key with your photo on it (newer ships have NFC chips that are used to debark/embark).  Maybe you can use your face to charge one of these days soon?

  7. I think he knows what was offered: he just chooses to look at it in a different. You are correct: all cruise fare returned plus 50% off next cruise based on what he paid for the cruise he is missing. He is just vetting cause things did not work out the way he expected they would. Let's hope he calums down and can enjoy whatever he decides to do with his vacation time.

I'm all set. It took a morning but they were able to fix it and give only what was offered in the letter. That being said, it's a 7 day cruise now for $300 more than the 10 day was and it's going to Orlando and Nassau (................). It's pretty annoying to plan everything down to minute detail (deck plans/dining/excursions/itineraries/activities/work arrangements/sundries & supplies/travel arrangements/etc.) over the course of 9 months only to have this happen. I guess that's life, but some people value vacation a lot more than others especially if they never get the chance to take them because work life is busy. I'm not sure why cruise companies get to mess with their customers and the reaction is : "Oh well. Suck it up. We should be so lucky to get a 1/2 off credit for messing up a 10 day vacation planned well in advance. Won't somebody think of the millions NCL will lose!? :loudcry:" Maybe that's why cruise companies behave the way that they do because they're never fully held to account for pretty much anything (norovirus cruises/cancellations/flight cancellations/etc./etc.). I think it's unfortunate that some people see it as high maintenance to simply get what you paid for. Most hospitality industries do not work like this, have MUCH smaller profit margins than cruises and would be ashamed to disrupt 1 guest's vacation, let alone that of 2,000+ guests.

  8. They may not be able to fly back without a passport. When you do your online booking, when you choose birth certificate another box pops up that states there would be a problem getting back into the US. Wwo, I am at a loss for words....(rarely happens)!

    What's up: http://www.businessinsider.com/what-to-do-if-you-lose-your-passport-abroad-2015-10

That said, I would contact the airport and see if they'll let it slide. It's rare, but sometimes they do and this is especially if you have global entry or precheck.

  9. Sitting in a hotel in Niagra Falls enjoying holiday, looking forward to going to New York tomorrow. Just heard the Gems cancelled so looks like I'm spending time and money on my mobile tomorrow calling my UK tour op.

Wonder how long until we get our money back from NCL!!

    FEEL SICK

Either Friday or Monday. If you need NYC advice, let me know. I've got the inside track ;-)

  10. I don't think that's what people said or meant, I know I didn't.

I'm sorry for you but compared to the trouble this is causing for people having to fly to New York for the cruise your problems are small.

Do I understand it right that you will get all money back and your next NCL cruise for half the price? That sounds like a good deal to me.

I understand that you should prefer to be able to go on the cruise but when that's not an option, half price on next cruise really isn't too bad.

No. We get 1/2 the cruise price we paid on the Canceled cruise. I'm sorry you don't get that we have one vacation a year together or that to get this precious little time that we had to plan months (almost a year) in advance with our employers and plan childcare. If you think it's impressive to be refunded on a service or product that has not been provided, you need legal assistance. At the end of the day, you're clearly not bound by the same time restraints. We cannot simply book just any old time.

  11. Thanks. I was pretty much attacked and told to suck it up by the myriad retirees on here who don't care about changing travel plans because they don't work. Cancelling your bingo game is a hell of a lot easier than rescheduling time off of work.

I was also told to think about the millions that NCL will lose. I searched my pockets for all the ****s and couldn't find them. They did 2 billion in q1 of this year. Sorry. Not sorry at all.

    <snip>

I'm one of those myriad retirees. Bingo isn't my game, though. :) Every time my least favorite airline manages to take off about 3-4 hours late I get a LITTLE snippet of what all the people who are booked on this cruise must be experiencing. I believe most people don't cruise off for a week+ anywhere without making lots of arrangements and doing some planning. For me, lots of planning, but I do enjoy that. And, if they are like me, they have expectations (warranted or not) of having a good time. I know I would be disappointed and no doubt a little angry at that situation.

Your post reminds me that telling someone to suck it up when they are upset, isn't particularly helpful. Particularly when it is done through the cold medium of typing in a public community board. Recently, when a friend died, another acquaintance told me to get over it...it must be God's will. I wanted him to meet his maker right then although I resisted saying it or doing anything that would have resulted in non-recreational handcuffs.

I hope NCL can make this right for everyone. I am sorry for everyone who has been affected by the Gem's issue.

Thank you for understanding. It's hard for us working stiffs to get time ;-)

  12. That bites. I'm sorry.

You have to wonder... Did NCL think about the negativity that would ensue by treating re-bookings as new bookings? It seems like it would have cost them little to carry over perks and points, in the interest of maintaining customer goodwill.

This is why I put in a BBB complaint. They bait and switched me and now I'm paying 300.00 more for a 7 day instead of a 10 day.

  13. Completely concur.

They've blown up a lot odf people's vacations.

The 50%-off credit doesn't cost them anything.

They should fly you to another ship with rooms--not necessarily NCL. Maybe another brand in the NCLH family.
