  1. I have done this a few times. We take public bus to the beach. Snorkle for some time. We bring lots of water, soda and a beer or two to drink. We also bring a snack to eat. We start walking down the beach. It is hot and hard to walk in the sand. When we get hot we jump back into the water for a bit. I always say I will never do this again but......I will be doing it again in 2 weeks. There are no bathrooms or much shade on this beach area. We walk down to Tiki Bar. We plan about 1to 1 1/2 hours. it is not a super long walk but we stop to swim and rest. I am an over weight over age person. Taxi bar has bathrooms and drinks. Remember it cost a lot to have drinks on this island. We just walk to the front and get the city bus again. Anytime on your walk back you can get to the street and get the bus if you need to. There is shopping and drinks back at port. This is a tender port. The lines get long and hot and no bathroom in this area. Give yourself plenty of time. Enjoy your time.

  2. That place was so packed that people were turning away due to the long wait for a table. You had a very hard time getting a drink if you wanted one.

I love Grand Turk but the mass of people, being ripped off for an umbrella, drunks and vendors fighting made it a less than normal stop for us.

If you get off the ship early and get a free chair under the tree it made life easier. The right side of the pier was packed also!!! We bring our own floats and hang out by the ropes. Not many people are out there so it is perfect.

Next time I am there I will check into other places on the Island. Any ideas of where I should enjoy life next time????

Bless you all and healthy hearts to everyone,

    Relax and enjoy life.

  3. We were at port with Carnival Magic and Carnival Glory. Both ships were there the same time for the day. What a mess. When you get to the beach area the chairs are free. The clam shells are also free. The chairs under the palm trees get some shade so no umbrella is needed. The other rows of chairs are in the hot sun. Vendors were selling umbrella for $50 to rent. Remember the chairs are free!!!!! I understand the price changes by how the vendor felt like charging you. He might charge you $50 but the next person sitting next to you $30. The vendors were fighting among themselves on who's area it was to do business. A few vendors got in a fist fight. The security guard watched because he did not want to get hit. The beach was so packed with umbrellas that you could not walk to get to your chair.

This was a great beach to enjoy for the day......not anymore when two large ships are in port. Stay on the ship. Enjoy the ship when everyone is in port.

  4. We are flying into FLL on Aug. 4th cruise out of POM Aug. 6th. I have looked at Embassy Suites on 17th but reviews sound like hotel is a bit run down. In the past we have used the Sun Trolley. We loved being able to get to the beach and shops on this trolley. Am I correct it is close to the Embassy Suites Hotel? I am also looking at other Hilton hotels. We enjoy the pool, beach and medium priced meals that we can walk or trolley to. Any advice?

I am also looking at Marriott hotels too. I am unsure of what hotels are the best in this area.

I will need to get from airport to hotel, hotel to POM. I am looking into shuttles from airport, car rental and Uber as my choices.

Thanks for all of your knowledge.

    Relax and enjoy life.

  5. "It was a cold morning and we were made to stand outside in 40-50 degree weather for nearly 2 hours. I also came to find out that since I was on the first floor (window view) we were treated as less desirable and made to wait outside while nearly everyone else was allowed to check in the dome. By the time I got through the line 2 hours later I was miserable and numb and wanted to go home."

Did you not have a jacket with you??? Most people know that it get cold here in California in the winter. I never go anyplace without a jacket, hat and gloves. Even in Mexico the fog comes in and makes it very cold.

I also don't understand why having a cabin on the first floor makes any difference. I have cruised out of Long Beach many times. The let you into the dome after others are off the ship. It goes by zones around 11:30 AM.

I am so sorry that things went very wrong for you on this cruise. I don't believe Carnival is to blame on this one.

    Relax and enjoy life,

  6. We waited 1 1/2 hours to get our rental here. Horrible service, the workers were so slow and did not care that others waited. The talked to everyone about anything and this made each person take a long time. If you use budget sign up for the fast break option. When you rent the car remember to book under your fast break code. There is a separate line to pick up your car with this option. Drop off is faster too. Look to see if your location offers this option.

    Relax and enjoy life,

  7. We bring a small DVD player and a small blow up beach ball. Both are used often. Use many of the dance rooms to run around with the ball. One cruise we had a group of young kids that would look for us with our DVD player. We made friends with the adults and we had our own DVD movie night in an empty lounge. We had food, pillows and our PJ.s on. You can have a wonderful time. You just have to plan on it.

  8. You can always bring a large tumbler type of mug with you. We bring one that holds hot and cold drinks. Don't forget to pack a baggie of marshmallows for your HC. We also like to add some ice cream during the day to our HC.

  9. I just read that there is a limited amount of people who can check in at each time slot. I believe this will help Carnival know how many people will be checking in at a time. The terminal can get very packed at 11AM. The workers are non stop getting people processed. Carnival can figure out how many windows to have open for check in. Why have 17 workers around when you are only checking in 200 guest.

I would also hope it is for my safety too. All those guest packed into one area at the same time. If a fire was to happen how would we all get out safe?

I hope this idea helps and people show up when they are asked to. It will make check in much better.

    Relax and enjoy life,

  10. I believe this is one of Carnival's brilliant ideas. We will have to wait and see how they work all of this out. They will have to try and see how to make it work. I don't see how it makes any difference if everyone just picks 10-10:30 AM. They are going to have to limit how many people can use that time. I hope they have a place for those not allowed inside to sit. I have the feeling this idea will not work out. How can they tell an older or disabled person to stay outside in the hot sun or rain because you showed up early. My question is how are people going to break this rule??? Someone must have an idea already of how to get around this new idea. Will people be photo shopping boarding passes next????

    Relax and enjoy life,

  11. There is a budget rental company near POM. The code for their location is M5E. They are on 89 SE 2nd St. Ask the taxi driver to use the street not the freeway to get there. Cost is $13 plus tip. I print directions because they want to use a GPS to take freeway. Price then is around $21 plus tip. Use the budget discount code Y937800. Also sign up for fast break system. Your car will be ready for you and you should not have to wait long. Make sure you are off of the ship fast. Carry your luggage. You can get those flights if you plan correctly.

    Relax and enjoy life.

  12. We stay here often. The pool is very nice. The hot tub is kind of a joke. It looks like it was a fountain that they made into a hot tub. Maybe two people can use it at once. Nice area close to bars and food. The price can really jump depending on time of year. I just went to book it for April, it is $284 a night!!!! No it is not worth that!

    Relax and enjoy life,

  13. was about every 30 minutes. Dropped us off in front of our ship. Great service, fast and easy. We did have to lug our luggage up and elevator to the shuttle pick up area. Not a problem but my suitcase broke and we had to carry the heavy one. We made it just fine. Will buy a better suitcase for the next trip/

  14. I have to agree. We fly the red eye into Miami from San Francisco. Get on the first shuttle from airport to the port. Do not tell me after I just flew all night that I have to sit outside for hours to get on the ship. They better be bringing me food and a drink and a nice pillow for my nap. I don't think they are gonna like me to much if I have to wait. I have learned with Carnival the more noise you make....the more they let you get your way. The don't want you to upset the perfect vacation mood of others.

    Relax and enjoy life,

  15. The budget car rental is located at 89 Southwest 2nd street Miami FL. I will need a taxi from Budget to the Carnival ship in Port of Miami. I am hoping to have a phone number to call the taxi when I am ready for pick up. Budget does not have a shuttle to the POM from this location.

    Thanks

  16. I am wondering does anyone have the phone number for the Miami local taxi. I need to drop of our rental car to Budget. I will need a taxi to the port. I hope to call and hope to not stand at the rental center for a long time. Any advice?

    Thanks
