  1. Basically, you really just need to turn off Cellular Data. That is where the big $$$ gets billed.

I use my Verizon cruise package that lets me use text and voice on a pay as you go basis (while the ship is at sea). We do this for emergency contact with our family at home. Prices are cheap enough if you communicate, but you don't go on Airplane mode. We turn off Cellular date just to make sure there are no surprise bills when we get home.

  2. Last cruise I had a couple with a baby in the next room. I could hear screaming, crying, banging on the wall pretty much all day, every day. It was quiet when they went to sleep but it started back up around 7am so no sleeping in. That’s the first time I was actually ready to get off the boat and go home.

No way those inconsiderate people would chase me off the ship!

I'd be patient and accommodating for awhile. But when the crying and banging noises get me to a certain point, then I'd react. Even something as simple as when we are about to leave the room for awhile, I'd bang on the wall to stir the kid.

Hate to sound like a %^&*, but the parents can share in the misery they cause. It's my vacation too!

  3. Yes, it was ridiculous. In your post, I believe you quoted them as saying as they probably wouldn't come back. Big difference from them saying absolutely not coming back. Even if they had decided to not come back, it was not your place to tell them what to do. I don't blame them for not wanting to sit with you.

Step away from the keyboard... :D

  4. While it certainly is not the highlight of any cruise (and totally necessary), I have never seen anybody get sick or pass out in a muster drill on our 39 cruises, the fact that you have seen many is amazing.

I understand the necessity for muster drills and my family is usually one of the first ones there. However, I can attest that people do get sick.

My daughter is one that has vomited during the muster drill on at least two cruises. She was a teen at the time. I have no idea how it happened. We finished the inside portion of the drill and were taking part in the sardine can reenactment of the outside deck.

Both cruises were the same.. One moment she seemed fine... Then she tugged my arm while covering her mouth with the other hand, needing to get to the rest room. The first time she made it, the second time she left her mark on the deck as she ran toward the restroom. Poor kid!

  5. Being your first cruise, I'd say take the $500. You'll have a great time and will be totally oblivious to what you're missing. Fantasy has the 2.0 upgrades that many other ships in that class do not (I was on Fascination last week, a sister of Fantasy with no upgrades, and the ship felt kind of meh).

Breeze is a beautiful ship (my favorite, and we'll be sailing her again next year) and she will spoil you. You'll likely never want to consider Fantasy again once you've been on a bigger ship.

Just stepped off the Magic after cruise #14 & 15 and I am booking Elation or Paradise (again) for next year.

We like the Fantasy class ships. They are just as enjoyable as the newer ships (and even better in some ways!).

  6. I find it interesting that you say that as I have not been on a Fantasy class. I have sailed on older Conquest class ships and on the Miracle and Destiny. Some of those didn't have up to date bells and whistles but I enjoyed them anyway. Have you sailed on any of them and what was your opinion? Reason I ask is that some folks (not saying you) will only sail on the most fully updated ship and will reject anything less. Be interested to hear your thoughts on that.

12 of my 15 cruises have been on Fantasy class ships (and Holiday class) and we keep booking them!

Why? They are more intimate, we like the crews better, there's not as much theme park-type crap on them, they get you from point A to point B as planned, they have all the normal food and beverage service we need, they're well maintained, and they are much less crowded (easier to maneuver aboard).

I'll let the others sail on the glitzier, tricked out ships and look down on the Fantasy class ships. Just keep them Fantasy class ships cruising and we are one happy family!
