We've been to all 10 of the places but we have not seen Cabo or Ho Chi Minh City at night.

So what does the captain do if a person or family doesn't return to the ship from port?

There are sweat pants and there are sweat pants. Some look like you should be in the gym and others look pretty darn similar to slacks even though they have an elastic waist and are made out of a stretchy fabric. Get a pair of the latter and no one will ever know or care. Hope your dad has a blast!

We take one carry on each plus a tote between us for a short or long cruise or for 3 months in Europe. All our clothes are machine washable and do not need ironing so we wash or send out laundry if necessary.

Interesting. All this flack because the cruise lines don't pay some of their employees a living wage. If all the cruise lines added the gratuities, suggested tips, service charge or whatever they call it to the cost of the cruise it would be a non issue.
So folks here are bashing each other for a problem mostly resulting from the cruise lines' policy. I suggest the cruise lines pay all their employees a fair wage and then passengers can tip for excellent service. JMHO.

One should compare the cost of T-Mobile phones and monthly charges before making the decision to switch phone providers. I calculated it would cost DH and me each approximately $340 a year to switch from our current family plan with Verizon to T-Mobile. We realized that we do not spend that much on overseas calls, texts and roaming to justify a change. So I would suggest that a person do a comparison before switching. It may be worth it for some folks and not for others.

We have gone on 8 or 10 cruises and have never done a ship's tour and only once a private tour.
We research the ports we are to visit and plan what we want to see. Then we grab a cab, hop local public transportation or walk.
This works for us because we dislike crowds as in a bus and we like to linger many places long after the tour groups leave.
To each his own!

If this nice lady still has one of your bags I would ask her to please take it to her nearest ups or fed ex place and give you the phone number of the place. I would then call the shipper with a credit card number and have them send the bag to you. At least you will have part of your luggage back. You can the deal with shipping cost reimbursement with the cruise line once you have your bag.
I assume the bags the cruise line picked up were shipped to you at the cheapest cost. They could take up to a week to arrive.
Good luck and I hope you get everything back asap.

I would imagine if a passenger had a phobia about flying, the cruise line or the passenger could make arrangements to see a doc who could prescribe something to help the passenger out

We securely taped a 12 pack of diet coke in an unopened box to the top of a 12 pack of water still in its unopened plastic outer wrap in its carton, gave it to a porter and it was delivered to our room with no problem.

Thanks for clarifying that RallyDave. Whether it is a text or an app, sending messages via wifi from iPhone to iPhone for free even if each person has a different service provider is great. Now I understand why it makes no difference which service provider is involved.
So if I text someone iPhone to iPhone with no wifi in the USA then I am using the phone line???

DH had this problem on one cruise. We wondered if the ship's water used in ice cubes, lemonade, coffee, etc might be to blame. (I know it's used in cooking as well but not in such large quantities). Anyway, DH decided to eliminate ice, drinks made with ship's water and drink only bottled water and other bottles or canned drinks, and the swelling vanished. Weird but true.

When I read the title of this thread I thought you were referring to the casino - LOL!

We have folding hiking poles that collapse down to less than a foot. We have packed them in our carry on numerous times. They are quite expensive - check Amazon or a local sporting goods store. It would be cheaper to buy or rent poles at your destination unless you plan to use the poles other times. Telescoping poles generally are too long to fit in a carry on. Enjoy!

When one uses pronouns (her) it is easy to misread who the pronoun refers to.

Perhaps on the one month or two month anniversary of your anniversary, you can go to a local restaurant that serves something similar and celebrate again. No one can have too many celebrations in their life!!

I wore capris that ended about half way between my ankles and knees. I would not recommend really long pants as they might drag on the dirty ground - yuck. As long as knees and shoulders are covered, you are good to go.

I use my iPhone as a clock and a flashlight and an alarm and a kindle and a GPS.
I have terrible night vision so I like those little battery operated tea lights as a bathroom nightlight. Each one lasts about 5 to 7 nights.

Actually, taking a photo of your luggage is a great suggestion for anyone who checks their suitcases when they fly.

If you are out of the country and have an iPhone, you can send free texts to another person with an iPhone if you have wifi. Cellular data can be off.

I suggest a waterproof outer layer rather than something water resistant - big difference. Be sure that waterproof outer layer is made from a breathable material such as goretex. You can wear this over a fleece, a sweater or a sweatshirt.
