Everything we buy for travel is dual voltage: mobile phones readers. Camera chargers. Computers. Tablets. Etc. then all we ever need are adaptors.

To the advocates of keeping pills in original containers: what would prevent a person from taking an empty container and filling it with something else? I doubt the person checking pill bottles in your bags has a pharmacy degree???

We went on a 30 day cruise from San Diego to Lima and back. It had great ports and a wonderful itinerary. By day 21 or so we were ready for the cruise to end. The stateroom was just too small - we did have a balcony - but it still felt cramped. Now if we had had a large suite we might have felt differently - LOL !

We live in Hawaii and a friend of ours used to work in a gift shop in Lahaina. Every once in a while a cruise ship passenger would ask him in all seriousness, "Do you take US dollars"?
I guess they forget that Hawaii is a state.

We have cruised about 100 days and we have never taken a ship excursion. We decide what we want to see and do before we leave. We hire a cab driver at the port, ask for additional suggestions and sightseeing tips and off we go! We always arrive back in port at least 2 hours before we are scheduled to leave. We have seen some fabulous places the cruise excursionites will never see!

My grands loved HAL because there were so few kids and they got a lot of attention. But they are kinda shy so that was perfect for them. If your kids are more social and outgoing they probably would prefer a ship with more kids on it.

We fly with carry on only. I get sun screen and bug repellent in individual foil packets. I buy waters and sodas in the port city and tape the cases together for the ship's porters. Every other liquid is in tsa size bottles.

We bought wallow talkies for our first cruise with our grand kids. The wallow talkies never left their boxes. It was so much easier to arrange to meet at a certain time at a certain place. Just make sure everyone has a watch or cellphone on airplane mode so they know what time it is.

I take one plus a backpack.

It's the weekend. I would wait till Monday evening. If you have not heard by then I would email them again plus I would contact someone else

We've never had a bag go missing - probably because we never check our bags! I've never won the lottery either - probably because I've never bought a ticket - LOL!

We bought some black diamond hiking poles. They fold up - not telescope - to about fifteen inches long. We have taken them in our carryon onto the plane numerous times with no problems. We love them but they are quite spendy.

How can anyone have a "great cruise" with all the sickness and misery around them, even if they are not sick?
-
I have an adult son and a teen granddaughter who are extremely prone to motion sickness. They each take a Dramamine twice a day and they never have been seasick. Well, the now teenager got seasick when she was about 8 because her mom forgot to give her Dramamine one morning and she threw up in the dining room. They brought out the hazmat team and cordoned off the area. Mom was totally embarrassed and never forgot to give dgd her Dramamine again!

When we travel we always pack a prescription anti diarrheal such as lomotil and an anti nausea drug like compazine. We have not had noro but we have traveled in third world countries and gotten sick - probably from something we ate or drank.

Just curious. Do the moderators get paid for all their work?

I'm sorry you camera might be lost. That's why we upload our pics to our laptop every day. The camera can be replaced but the pics are gone forever. :(

If you have a smart phone and the app from your airline, you can check in on your phone and several us airlines will send a mobile boarding pass to your phone. I know united and American do this and I assume other airlines do as well.

We were lucky and booked the first day of an SWA sale. We saved between $150 and $200 per person for 4 people. We did have an extra stop and the planes were jam packed. Would we do it again? Maybe.

We go to Europe each summer for 2 to 3 months with a carry on and a backpack. We stay in apartments so we have a washer. We bring mostly all polyester and nylon clothes - no ironing and takes up little space. We also like zip off pants that you can get at any sporting goods store. Be careful of Lufthansa airlines as they weigh all carry ons and maximum weight allowed is 8 kilos or about 18 pounds. We just got new IT (international traveller) luggage that weigh under 4 pounds each. In California, Marshall's and TJ Maxx carry it cheaply.
Enjoy the pleasure of not being weighed down!

I hope your friends at least enjoyed their few days on Maui and are able to catch the ship at port 2

We list all our hotel, car rental and flight itinerary info on a page or 2 in date order. We put all relevant info such as confirmation number, price, address, phone number, flight number, etc on the list. If we need the actual email from the hotel or airline we can pull it up on our iPhone. We add our frequent flyer numbers and hotel membership numbers at the bottom of the page. Cuts down on paper and has worked well for us.

By this time mom and son should have discussed the incident so that mom could have posted what really happened and we all could stop speculating.
Lug laptop or just lots of memory cards?

I always take a laptop or tablet so I can label and edit each day's pics. Otherwise I wouldn't remember what is what and the though of editing a thousand or so pics when I get home is way too overwhelming. Besides, I usually delete maybe 80% of the pics I take.
