Thanks Red Sol for taking the time to share helpful information

Can you book for lower rate and only go to the show?
If the show is not sold out for a certain evening or on the first night; do they put it on sale at a lower rate?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
-
Just booked and reading the threads and see ; you can prebook your shows in advance. Can someone tell me how and if this is needed for Nov. 26 sailing?
Thanks
-
Will look forward to it.
-
Thanks again Notamermaid for the short version; will count on you and do appreciate you keeping us informed.
Has been any comments about or from The Captain? I know he was either off duty or not in pilot house but wondering is he has had anything to say about the accident?
-
Thanks Notamermaid; how sad when there were two people in pilot house who were in charge. What is "dpa" Can we read more on this site?

and what about the cost of your air that you paid for a terrible experience! Now you have to pay it again to go back so you can use your vouchers. Also think the $170. that you paid up front for excursions that never happened and had to spend in their tiny 2 shelf gift shop was a big rip off. Does this tell people: never to book excursions before hand? Not impressed with the way Viking is handling this and have been on 4 Viking cruises but maybe time to try another line.

I agree; unsubscribe if you don't want to continue reading this thread!
Sincere thanks for many of your postings who have more knowledge than I .
I was leaning towards human error as well; until I read about past history of Freya wheelhouse.
Thoughts and prayers with the families of the deceased and Viking crew and staff.
Is there a thread that is better to subscribe to , re. compensation passengers have or will receive?
-
Full agree with all the other comments; feel so sorry that you had to experience these two river disasters. Not what you had planned and saved to experience. Blessed no one else was injured or killed and sorry also for Viking but they have to increase the compensation otherwise I would think not only the 200 + people that were on this cruise will choose another line plus think how many others they will tell. A major problem happened on one of our ocean cruises (severe flooding of many balcony cabins) and they paid for all our damages and reimbursed us for the difference of having to move to an inside cabin plus gave us 50 % off on next cruise; but must be used within a year and that was off the original price; not sale price that one can always find. I was with large group and no one used it and have avoided that line every since. What they offered you certainly was NOT enough. Thanks for sharing your experience and please continue to do. Again; I'm so sorry; your vacation was ruined plus very stressful.

For sharing the link of so many devastated pictures; you could easily see why the two people didn't have a chance. So sad! Prayers are with the Viking staff and crew and families of the decease.
-
I was wondering the same; loved Susy's pictures; been on three river cruises but wans't very observant... till this tragedy happened.
Read somewhere that when wheelhouse is lowered; nearly pitched dark inside so I thought little eye visibility?
-
I know the Captain can't always be at the helm but is there not a co-pilot to take his place? Were these guys who I am so saddened that they lost their lives; trained to operate the river cruise ship? Did the Captain go under the first bridge. Was he off duty when this happened?
What was the position of these two guys who lost their lives and were driving at the time?
The crew members who died was a 49-year-old who was guiding the vessel in place of the captain and a 33-year-old sailor.

Thanks Aleeoc for giving us first hand knowledge of what a terrible night it was for all the cruisers ; not to mention the tragedy of losing two staff members. I can well imagine the all the crew working so hard to accommodate the guests; I found when I have cruised with them three times; they go beyond the call of duty to please everyone. Do hope you enjoy the two days on Bresla and look forward to a good refund so you can come back to a relaxing top notch cruise with them.
On another subject to anyone:
Do you think it will ever be public knowledge whether it was mechanical failure or human error? Do ships black box operate like airline ones? where you can hear all conversation before the crash? Terrible tragedy whatever the cause.

Where does Sue go then?
Was glad to read Captain Kate was a passenger when they pulled out today from Bayonne even though I know she could have handled it. Good to have two captains on board in that wind. Hope everyone made it today.
-
Lucky you; hope she's still there in Feb.
-
Great posting Arno; Thanks
-
Thanks Andy for the update on Sue. Doesn't Celebrity understand that she might be fitted for the "mature" generation that takes longer cruises and keep the loud ones for the 7 day cruises. Tell her : she's missed by many!
-
Delighted to hear Sue is returning to Eclipse; hope she is there in Feb.
-
Fabulous to hear Sue is still with Celebrity; that wrongful fact came from a new CD on Celebrity! Shame on him!
-
Super nice of Kate to "like" it. Hope she transfers after this... would like to cruise with her as master.
-
Would love to cruise with her at the helm. So proud of her.
-
Sincere thanks Host Bonjour to taking the time to give me such informative information.
-
Wonderful to hear Sue is still with Celebrity.
-
Hope this is true. A CD on Celebrity told me she had been ushered out; wanted younger CD's.
