  1. On September 20th 1967 I was in the school library along with all the other pupils and staff watching the launch of QE2 on what we thought was a large screen TV.

But I don't recall that brand of cigarettes in 1969. Perhaps they were only sold in US.

Does anyone know the discount for full world cruise internet please?

If I could be spared being told to use phone data in ports or to switch off and enjoy the trip that'd be super.

Have you booked a full world cruise?

If you have you should be able to login to MyCunard and then there is a point where you should be offered a price for the two levels of internet access for your booking.

The general Cunard website just indicates the daily price for pre-booking or onboard purchase at the two possible levels for trips up to 16 days with a note that discounts are available over 16 days. MyCunard should tell you the actual price offered for your trip.

If you don't already have a booking I think you may need to email or phone Cunard to ask what the prices would be for the number of days you are considering.

One other thing to consider is that there was a Valentines Day promotion this year where the price was heavily discounted. I don't think these promotions appear frequently but you might want to consider that before making an early purchase.

So I can't order a glass of wine and a bottle of water together? I drink water alongside the wine as a habit I picked up in Austria.

We ordered both at once several times a night for fourteen nights on the drinks package. We dance almost constantly for several hours each evening and drink wine and water for refreshment and re-hydration in between musical numbers.

We've always drunk water in reasonable quantities, but it became more regimented after a urologist advised that it might help avoid a future kidney stone.

Re: The drinks package, here's a fairly recent Chart Room drinks menu from QV to give you an idea of the prices (all are +15% gratuity) - I've toyed with the idea of a drinks package, but I would really struggle to make it pay - I could easily drink enough on a given day, but not every day, each to their own though. For our 14 night cruise the drinks package is $2016 for the two of us

Sorry that menu is not up to date. Spirits are in 1oz and 2oz measures. Small wine is 150ml.

Since around last summer spirits changed to 25ml and 50ml measures, and small wines are now 175ml.

No problem, and since then I've just seen another round of dancing in the Queens Room, which was busier, and again the two corners furthest from the band were not much used.

I'm thinking why that is, and at that end there is a slightly raised gallery of seating and a few steps down from that gallery to the dance floor. The front of of that seating area, overlooking the floor, has a glass fronted barrier, so the movers and shakers are going to be a bit careful not to crash their arms into that barrier, or the steps, as they go around. At the other end, by the band, there isn't this barrier. That's the logic that I can adduce here.

Some folks might not be too keen on getting hemmed into a corner. I see them as a challenge to dance as far into and back out as possible. There is of course the access slope to those corners, where possibly some couples might join the floor. If dancers are approaching the floor by those slopes I would navigate away from there to give them space to join the floor. And if someone is in that corner I would never try to nudge them out!

At the band stand end the corners are more acute so I find it odd that many are using those corners. We dance into them if they're not blocked. Unless of course these nights have included the enlarged band. When that's the case there are often musicians on the dance floor and you probably can't get to the physical corners of the floor near the stage. The effective corners then are a few feet back and most people would probably dance to those corners.

it is my email that won’t work, which I think may be something to do with BT. I have a feeling something similar happens the last time we went to the Canaries.

I claim no expertise in this.

Is it possible that because you are accessing the BT email from a different internet system to normal (IP address), it might be looking for some 2nd stage verification that it is actually you?

That might be through a text to you, which you might have switched off to avoid roaming fees.

    Hey,

We went on a crossing with QM2 recently and onboard there was a folk duo “Cupla Fir”, does anyone know their real band name, we would like to find them on Youtube or elsewhere?

    best regards

    Martin

I found a duo called "Cula - Irish Duo - Tommy and Brian" on FB, who have been on Cunard.

The other ones I've heard of are "The Newfoundland Duo".

  8. Like the last two posts, I would normally prefer dancers that are doing something more or less on the spot to use the centre of the floor. However in this case I get the impression that the physical impairment and self consciousness described might make it difficult for the OP to get their husband to the middle of the floor.

In which case they would be easier to avoid in a corner than part way along the line of dance.

If the problems are not as bad as I've understood them to be then I would suggest staying in the middle, and probably best not to attempt it when the floor is packed. It gets really busy for the first few dances on a gala night.

  9. Seems ingenious but not my wife's style.

Since we can take enough luggage for her to have something different for twelve lunches and fourteen dinners, we'll just stick with twenty-six outfits. 🙂

Ideal if luggage is severely limited.

1 - If we do something similar (e.g. find a small corner on the dance floor) for the few dances we will do (usually he can only do a couple of dances at a time and usually to a foxtrot tempo)) will the other dancers frown/comment on this?  He is already self-conscious on he limited dancing ability and if he feels like he is in the way, that will be it for us dancing for the duration.

2 - My understanding there will be dance hosts for the "single" people.  Would they still consider dancing with me so I can do more dancing than my husband is capable of?

1 - If you find a small corner on the dance floor, particularly if you are up early and before other dancers and make clear by your movements that you are sticking to that space then all the other dancers should just avoid that corner. There is no problem with that. There is no rule that suggests dancers must dance into every corner, but they are expected to avoid colliding with dancers that are already occupying a space!

2 - We sailed at end of pandemic and there were no dance hosts, but I've seen a few more recently in YT videos. My understanding is that they will dance with folk whose partners don't dance or aren't physically able as well as singles. I suggest you make your situation clear to some of them early in your trip.

Edit:  I see that @D&N has identified Sasebo while I was typing.  Congratulations!

It did feel a bit like cheating. I did see some other pics of the port in the reverse lookup, but I knew that if I simply identified the ferry I could probably find the location.

Here's a webcam capture showing a Cunard ship at a port we haven't seen yet. It's also a port not listed on our unseen ports list.

    I'd go for Sasebo, Japan.

The ferry was easily identified as Namizi, therefore it was one of the ports it serves,

Cross referenced against QE's recent calls on Marine Traffic.

  13. A simple solution to the wall view offered to those unfortunate enough to be seated facing the walls would be to replace the artworks with larger mirrors.

That would give a decent view of what was happening around the room, albeit the other diners would have their cutlery in the wrong hand. 🙂

...my partner would want the wall seat and I'd be looking at her

I'm sure like me, you'd have the best view in the room! 🙂

Telling would be one thing, but advice is always gratefully received. I am worried about spending a fortnight looking at the wall in the QG though.

I'm not sure how many there are. I watched a video yesterday that showed quite a few other 2-Tops away from the wall, and one against the wall just along from those banquettes where the table was at 45° to wall and both seats pointing diagonally towards rest of restaurant.

  16. I've wondered about crossing the road to have a look at Mr Musk's cars, and whether they might offer you a coffee or soft drink.

    Assuming Mayflower of course.

  17. I'd probably just have a main, a dessert and the Petit Fours from that menu, but if I had a starter it would probably be the Goats Cheese tart, which I would hope would be quite strongly flavoured. I'd take the salmon if it was Pacific. Scottish doesn't taste the same. I'd be disappointed with it.

The two veggie mains look fine to me and if that was all there was I'd be happy to eat either, but with the choice of other three....  What I'd probably prefer would be one of the veggie dishes with a piece of Beef Wellington, Duck or Sea Bass plonked on top, and do without the boring potato accompaniments they offer.

(though I can walk as fast as some people jog..)

I used to walk to pace my wife!

But her 30% weight loss has eventually turned into a 30% reduction in her per kilometre time. Now I need to jog about 10.9 km/h and listen for her feet hitting ground behind me to judge whether I can go any quicker.

At that sort of speed or more it's much safer to be on a treadmill.
