  1. I posted this on the Book of Faces Canadian Carnival Fans and someone re read the website and it says something different in another part of the website.

That part says you can cross over, with a positive test, and will only be fined if you don't quarantine.

    I am very confused.

I am very happy I am not travelling right now.

I will repeat that I am not going to take a chance that one part says $5000 fine and the other part of the website says no fine.

  2. DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!

You can't board after the terminal has decided the time has passed with the cut off.

So if final boarding time is 3pm, they may let you in after that time, or not.

    Flight delays, weather, traffic,.

I had this almost happen to me on Dec 26th. I made the cruise.

But.. as I'm sitting at the Ottawa airport I had to decide

1 - do I get on the plane knowing I might miss my cruise?

2 - what will I do in Orlando for a week?

3 - do I try to make it to the port?

Right now you can't get on the ship at the next port.

Are you willing to miss your cruise? Are you willing to deal with intense insane stress from the time you get to the airport to the time you board the ship?

If the answer is yes then go for it.

Oh and perhaps you should book through Fly2Fun. They will try their best to get you to the ship if you've booked flights through Carnival.

  3. My son played cards with his friends in the Lido Marketplace. This was after it was closed for the evening (after 7pm)

I"m sure if you were in a corner of the marketplace and no staff walked by you could take your masks off.

That is the only place I can think of that gives you social distance away from others to safely take off your mask.

We just got back from Orlando and my husband was randomly selected at Canadian Customs. Because we came from the US he doesn’t have to quarantine while waiting results. It’s day 4 now and still waiting…🙄

My test in Ottawa took 5 days. Others posted that it took 6-7 days?

You are lucky he doesn't have to quarantine.

  5. i just cruised with Carnival and read their policies and procedures over and over again so think I have a good understanding of them.

They will not allow a letter. No cruise line is allowing letters. Yes I know the CDC says that. But the CDC does not allow the letter for cruising.

They are giving out refunds pretty much up until your sail date.

I would get access to over the counter antigen tests and test yourself every week or so until about 2-3 days before you cruise.

If you are still testing positive at that point call Carnival (of your PVP or TA) and you will get a full refund.

As others have mentioned this question has been asked many times and it was the CDC who said you can test positive up to 90 days.

On here, on other social media, on John's social media page, people have posted that they have tested negative 10 - 20 days after testing positive.

So you probably have nothing to worry about.

Yeah agree.  There are two "costs"....financial amount of $5000 per person.  We are a family of 4 so yikes.  And then the cost of time if remain in the US...as it adds 2 weeks from work/school + hotel and food costs. So upset they have done this.

Any guesses how long this will be in place?  I figure at least until March break is over (or other similar spring breaks among different provinces).  We have an important trip in August, and then a re-try, for like the 5th time, of our cruise in December.  Really really hope it's lifted by then.

I cancelled our March Break trip to Mexico yesterday.

We have two cruises booked this summer and I'm not sure I want to deal with jumping through so many hoops.

The issue right now is that the Federal government's response to Covid is VERY different then what individual provinces are doing. It has caused a lot of frustration.

I don't think this travel restriction is going away any time soon. It's political for sure.

The positive test is new for sure.

    I see:

"Based on your answers, you won’t be turned away at the land border, but you may be fined $5,000 per traveller (plus surcharges). To avoid being fined, wait to enter Canada until the 15th day (starting January 15, 2022, 11th day) after your positive test result. If you had symptoms without a positive result, wait until the symptoms have ended and you have a valid negative pre-entry test result."

That doesn't say CAN NOT enter the country.  You can enter the country.

    O.k we can argue semantics.

You will never be denied entry into Canada if you are a Canadian citizen.

But you will now have to budget $5000 per traveller as extra costs if you happen to be fined when crossing with a positive Covid test.

From a financial standpoint it is cheaper to stay in the U.S. until the 11th day.

We all have different budgets for our trips but $5000 X 2 is not something I can afford.

  8. Being fully vaccinated to travel by plane (and train) in Canada is a good first step as we know those that are vaccinated are less likely to get Covid and pass it on to others.

But yes Canada and the U.S. have the same rules. You can fly domestically with a positive Covid test.

I also don't like how it says you MAY be fined.

So why MAY I?  Why might I not?  Who decides this?  How do they decide this?

If they are just deciding willy nilly, I feel like due to our professions (but mostly my husbands), they would most likely let us through without the fine.

I think that is a dangerous statement to say that based on your professions you'd be allowed to break the rules.

I think the "MAY" part is similar to what happened in November when the border opened and people started crossing into the U.S. but then didn't fill in the ArriveCan app on the way back.

Some were told to complete the app and come back. Some were fined. Some where put in quarantine.

  10. It's required because of the length of the cruise.

Other cruises of that length, and going out of that port (I think) have had similar testing.

Those cruising to Hawaii have added testing requirements as well.

Thats why it's important to read the Carnival website, but to also pay attention to your specific cruise rules.

    Things change quicklly.

Wow! Three times in a week! They're serious.

    Hawaii is serious.

Those were the rules required for cruise ships to port in Hawaii.

Hawaii has had very strict entry requirements, including specific covid test (aka NOT antigen tests)

I think they made it clearer.  I don't know that they have changed anything.

I don't have the exact wording from the 24th (we crossed that day, so I looked at it), but from memory it was over a few different pages.  One said something about needing a test to cross, one said you needed either (1) a negative test, or (2) a 14+ day positive test, and the third said if you don't provide the correct information, you will be subject to a fine.

What was changed was that when you do the wizard question part:

    It used to say:

Do you have symptoms of Covid? - when you said yes it says you CAN enter the country. but will have to quarantine

    now it says:

Do you have symptoms of Covid or tested positive within 14 days (10 days as of Jan 15th) - when you say yes it says you CAN NOT enter the country and if you do you MAY be fined $5000.

That added info about an actual Covid test is the issue.

Small point of clarification, Celebrity will cover $150USD per night for the hotel and $100USD per day for food.  However, they will only pay for 5 days of quarantine total, as per the CDC guideline.  Canada requires 10 days before flying back (some are choosing to fly back to a border town after 5 days, then drive across and complete the quarantine at home).  They also will pay $400 USD for a new flight or change fee.  Actually, you pay all then submit receipts with the positive PCR test result from the pier for reimbursement.

Heads up. The government website has now changed it to you MAY be fined $5000 per person if you drive across the border with a positive PCR test (within 10 days starting Jan 15th - 14 days now).

  14. Thanks for the review. I got off the ship when you got on.

I agree that debarkation is quick, other then the customs issues.

I also agree that the free drinks at the casino is not a good deal. I ordered a few drinks while playing but it was faster for me to get a drink at the bar on the way to a machine. and then get another drink when moving to another machine (I had free drinks everywhere on the ship).

We have assigned dining, does this impact the availability to us? I don't know if I'm understanding this correctly. 😐

If you have assigned dining you are only allowed to make reservations in the app after 745pm for Cucina and Chibang.

I had anytime dining so I could book my reservation any time after 5:30pm for either the main dining room, or Cuchine, or Chibang.

And when I say reservation I mean going in the app and booking a table and by the time I went from my room to the restaurant the table was ready.

As well, note the itinerary changes.  Testing on testing and not going where you want complicates things even more.  I can deal with the additional testing on testing as it is for my own benefit and that of others at the end of the day.  But when you start being "locked out" of destinations you want to go to makes you REALLY start wondering on whether to cancel.

Ports have never been guaranteed, even before Covid.

At least Carnival is announcing these changes earlier, and allowing cancellations.

My cruise had Costa Maya cancelled because of high winds.

If you had a balcony and went outside at 2am you would agree it was windy. Acccording to the tv map the winds were at 70km? Even then people thought it was Covid related and were angry and upset all day because of the cancellation.

We’re on a Pacific Coastal cruise in May of this year, embarking in San Diego and disembarking in Vancouver. We stop in Victoria, 1 day before disembarkation.

Do you know if we will need to have our PCR test administered and ArriveCan app completed before we arrive in Victoria? We fly back home from Vancouver.

    Great question.

I think we'll need to wait to see how Canada deals with PCR testing with cruises.

We know that Caribbean countries have treated cruiselines differently. For example if you fly into a country you need an antigen test/pcr test BUT if you get off on a cruise ship you do not, as the cruise line is confirming that the passengers all have a negative antigen/pcr test.

BUT.. some Caribbean countries require testing and that is why ports are being cancelled.
