  1. Hi all! I am cruising on the Adventure of the Seas April 27-May 5, about 70 days away now. My passport is set to expire June 30th of this year. My travel agent said that passport renewals are taking 2-3 weeks on average, but I am curious if I should just wait to send mine away until after we get back from the cruise? It makes me nervous to send back my current active passport when I am this close to my next cruise date

  2. Hi all!

My boyfriend and I have been looking to book a cruise. When we looked on Tuesday, we saw a great deal on an 8 night Adventure of the Seas sailing April 27-May 5 of this year. Inside cabin for $1413. My boyfriend wanted to wait to book through AAA to get the extra perks, and I just went there today. Looks like the promotion we were looking at on Tuesday (the WOW sale) has expired, and there is a different promotion going on now for President's Day, bringing our total to $1719 instead. I would like to book anyway, for fear of the price going up again after this current promotion, but my boyfriend wants to wait to see if there is a better promotion that will happen after President's Day. My thought is that $300 is not going to make or break us, but if it keeps going up, we may have to choose a different cruise. Unfortunately, since the cruise is so soon, and requires full payment at this time, we cannot cancel and re-book or do price adjustments if prices happen to go down in the future. Looks like there were quite a few rooms left when we were going through the booking process. Should we chance it in hopes that prices will go back down, or book it now?

  3. Not a first time cruiser, but I’m not sure where else to ask this, as all other boards are cruise line specific.

A little background....my boyfriend and I are around age 30 and we would like to go on a cruise this spring. Last year, we traveled with NCL and liked that we could add on the unlimited drink package using their promo. We really enjoyed our trip....it had a good balance of quiet time and fun events throughout our stay. He has been on RCCL as well (when he was younger), and he said he preferred that one better. We are comparing prices now between the two lines, and it seems prices are pretty comparable, but if we were to do the drink package with RCCL, it would cost us upwards of an additional $1,000 for the trip. Is RCCL really worth that much extra? My gut steers me towards no, and we should do NCL instead, and take advantage of the promo for free UDP, but I’d love to hear people’s comparisons who have been on both.

  4. Hey everyone! Just off the Gem 7 day Bahamas cruise today. I will absolutely be making a formal review in the next few days, but wanted to address some recent threads I saw here lately:

    1. We never had a problem with straws or having to ask for them. I think I had to ask for one only one time, and we had the drink package, so drank plenty. If NCL is being more conservative about straws, it definitely hasn’t trickled through all the ships yet.

    2. Power strip for us was not a problem, as long as it was unplugged whenever you left the room.

I’m sure I’ll think of other things here and there to comment on, but do you guys have any questions in the meantime about stuff on the ship?

  5. Agreed that the Caribbean water is very calm. I am cruising down the Atlantic (TOMORROW!) and am taking Sea Bands with me to be on the safe side. They are accupressure sport band bracelets and have worked for people I know in the past. I don't usually get seasick, but since we are going down the Atlantic, I'd rather be safe than sorry and return them afterwards if they go unused!

  6. We all know the age-old phrase, "There's no such thing as a free lunch"

The solution is pretty simple, if you don't feel like you will consume $250 worth of alcohol, don't use this as one of your options. If you do think you will spend more than that on alcohol (like we do), then it is worthwhile to get this package. At the end of the day, the free at sea deal is better than paying the full $89 per person, per day price PLUS gratuities!

  7. You must not have ever ridden on a subway train in Boston or New York during rush hour! The more the merrier, I would hate to make someone wait for another train (or elevator in this case) and make them late to their destination when there is practically enough space on the car. I don't think it's reasonable to request people stay at arm's length in an elevator in this type of situation.

  8. this is a little old (some links may be dead) but a decent starting point:

    l) Shopping - Dinosaur Store and Museum - http://dinosaurstore.com/ and Ron Jon Surf Shop -http://www.ronjonsurfshop.com/ Fun for kids old and young!

I'm not sure whether to thank you or curse you. My boyfriend now refuses to go anywhere except for the Dinosaur Store and pretty much guaranteed that he will make me hold a snake in their adventure zone :')

I told him he will owe me quite a few beers at one of the breweries nearby afterwards hahaha.

  9. Totally agree with American sports in the bars. Just got off the BA which is out of NY and as a Red Sox fan was looking forward to some good natured bantering during the Red Sox - Yankee games last week. REALLY disappointed to see soccer on every TV.

Also trying to recall if they even have draft beer on the ship?? I remember getting a bottle every time.

Oh boy, my boyfriend will be very sad to hear this. We are sailing on the Gem on Saturday, and he was praying they would showcase some of the Red Sox, or more importantly, the Bruins playoff games, haha!
