  1. I have a weird question about luggage tags. I tried searching but could not find the answer! I just printed my edocs and luggage tags for my cruise leaving Saturday. Do the luggage tags need to be printed in color? I know it says the color of the tag in print, so just wasn't sure. Don't want to waste ink if I don't need to!

  2. Thank you guys! I was a little scared after seeing lots of people being shocked by their on-board bill on the final day. I may play bingo, but probably not a lot, other than that we do not gamble. We are considering purchasing MAYBE one photo but I'm sure that won't be hundred of dollars. I had previously budgeted for an extra $250 (per person) on top of what we have already spent for miscellaneous spending. Does that seem reasonable?

  3. Hi all! My boyfriend and I will be cruising the Gem in April (SO CLOSE!). We have pre-paid the daily service charge, and the gratuity charge associated with the Ultimate Drink Package we got as a Free at Sea. We've already paid for one specialty dining. I was planning on bringing some cash with me for port shopping/spending, and was wondering what a good amount would be to bring for cash and what we should expect our on-board bill should be at the end? We do not plan on leaving ship in Port Canaveral, and will spend cash in Nassau. Might do some snorkeling on GSC but want to know what to expect for our on-board bill at the end. Don't want to be surprised by sticker shock at the end of the trip!

  4. Not to take over this post, but if you do not have any onboard credit, have already pre-paid DSC, and have an UBP (gratuities already paid for on that as well), do you think there will be that much more than will be charged to our room cards? I'm trying to decide how much extra money to save up for on-board expenses, and how much cash to bring with me.

  5. We are sailing on the Gem in April, and after hearing very bad things about Moderno, we are skipping that and doing Teppanyaki. Very excited about that one! We love hibachi here, especially for the show aspect, so we think it'll be a good time! We don't mind the noise.

  6. Loving this thread so far! We are exactly 30 days out, sailing on the Gem out of NYC. I consider myself to be the cheapskate in the relationship and my boyfriend is more of the "YOLO" mindset while on vacation. I will be curious to see your review after your cruise! I, too, have started setting stuff aside for our cruise. It is of no use to us now, as we are currently being hit with our 4th nor'easter in the last 3 weeks. Just leaves more time for me to browse through CC for ideas and nuggets I may have previously missed. My boyfriend told me yesterday he is signing me up for CC-aholics anonymous. This will be my first cruise (of my adult age....went one time 15 years ago as a pre-teen, but I barely remember that). Have fun!! I agree that the clock cannot tick fast enough.

  7. Looking at renting the snorkeling equipment at GSC. My boyfriend cannot swim, do they have life vests to go along with snorkeling equipment? Will it be worth it for him to rent the equipment and to stay afloat using the life vest? I am not a mermaid by any means, but can swim pretty well and can probably tow him if need be. I’d love to take advantage of the snorkeling experience, but don’t want him to feel as if he’s missing out!

  8. I haven't but maybe I will! I like Go Bus simply because they use Alewife Station, and I live about a mile from there. I'll take a look at the ones from South Station though. I just have to remember to factor in the time and money for an Uber home!

Might be worth it! Could also take the red line right into South Station and just transfer over to the bus terminal.

  9. I have no experience with bus times, but have you considered MegaBus, Greyhound or Peter Pan out of South Station? I'm not sure about Go Bus schedule, but I know those companies have quite a few buses that leave throughout the day, it might give you more options to choose from. I am currently trying to decide between these three bus companies (and will now also investigate Go Bus as well) based on their prices!

  10. Hi all,

We live in Boston, but are cruising out of Port Authority in April on the Norwegian Gem. We were planning on taking the MegaBus from Boston to NYC (drop off is about a 6 minute drive to the Port, were planning on taking an Uber to Port). Total price for the two of us roundtrip, including extra fee for reserved seats (we want the seats with the table in front) is $44. My boyfriend apparently has been reading reviews on MegaBus being quite cramped on space (he is tall...6'3). I have taken MegaBus before and have never had a problem with leg space but he suggested either Greyhound bus (total of $74 roundtrip) or Peter Pan bus (total of $120 roundtrip). Greyhound drops us off right at Port Authority. Neither of these options offer reserved seating. Has anyone traveled on two of these buses and can give me a comparison? Are the Greyhound or Peter Pan really worth that extra $$$? I personally would rather save that money for an excursion, but if it is going to be significantly more comfortable on GH or PP, I am willing to pay the extra.

  11. My boyfriend and I will be on the Gem in April, can't wait! It will be our first time. I've been scowering the reviews these past few weeks since we booked. I wish we were leaving now!

  12. Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I will be crusing in April on the NCL Gem. We are looking to book probably one excursion while on one of the islands. One problem - my boyfriend cannot swim. So, snorkeling is out of the picture, unfortumately.

I'm looking for tips or thoughts for other alternatives if anyone has been to the same ports! Here's what I saw on the cruise website, but unsure if there are other excursions we should think about, as this is new for both of us (neither of us have been on a cruise since childhood). Has anyone been on the following excursions and did you enjoy them if so? And if not, any other recommendations (totally open to non-cruise-sponsored excursions)? Thanks in advance!!

    Glass-Botton boat - Nassau

Paradise Island and Sightseeing - Nassau

Kayaking at Manatee Cave - Port Canaveral

Airboat Adventure and Alligator Jungle - Port Canaveral

    Discover Atlantis - Nassau

Kayak Tour - Great Stirrup Cay

Dolphin Encounter, Beach Day & Snorkel (will probably not do the snorkel portion) - Nassau

Also heard about the beer tour in Nassau and that sounds interesting to me as well!
