  1. We are planning a possible cruise February 2018 to celebrate a "big" anniversary and a "big" birthday for me! :o

What would be your recommendation for Adventure of the Seas vs Jewel of the Seas and why? Also, when is the best time for booking "reasonable" flights and what do you consider "reasonable"? We live in North Georgia so we'll be flying out of ATL. We have always driven to Florida ports and do not usually fly anywhere, so we're kinda "green" to this idea? any help or information will be appreciated!

We did this one the Adventure and loved the bells and whistles so to speak. If you don't like this style then go with the Jewel.

  2. Should he be taking those vitamins? Dr didn't mention it.

Always check with your MD first.

At the Univ. of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago where I worked for 24 yrs. this was common practice there and elsewhere AFAIK.

Foods are the best bet I think, like oranges, bananas and dates for example that are high in K+ which is potassium but again check with MD.

  3.

I'm not worried about the creamer. I can have a bit of dairy, just not large amounts. I wouldn't be able to drink a chai latte with it, though.

Ok. I see. Good luck :D

  4.

I'm not sure if I'm actually going to order the chai. It depends if they have almond milk that I can use with it. I'm mildly lactose intolerant, and I don't like soy milk. If all they have to mix the chai with is regular milk and soy milk, I'll probably pass and just drink coffee.

I would think they have non-dairy creamer.

  5. I'm not going to be drinking that much of it. I'll only have one a day, and it's a seven-day cruise. And my travel companion doesn't drink any of that stuff.

If you are drinking one cup per day only then yes the card would not make sense to buy.

We've never been disappointed by a Princess cruise and we have taken six of them save for the coffee which is awful IMHO so I get a coffee card and yes I do drink more than one per day, about 3-4.

Enjoy your cruise and your Joe. :D

  6. Or maybe not? If Princess are prepared to cut corners and break the rules to maximise profits, do you trust them to follow food hygiene and safety regulations? What else are they prepared to skimp on?

Just because you aren't concerned about the environment, doesn't mean you should become complacent about your own personal well being. Princess probably aren't too bothered if they can make some extra money.

That's quite a stretch. Saving money on say soda pop does not mean skimping on sanitation procedures. Did you ever hear of the CDC? Take a look. Outbreaks on ships are monitored and the CDC demands corrective measures and will reinspect. Standards have to be maintained or potentially a ship can be put out of commission and that's money! These are facts so stop with unfounded speculation.

  7. Thanks for putting me straight on that JW. I try not to get too hooked up on the technical side of medicine, as long as the experts looking after know what they are doing, which is quite funny as the surgeon who fitted my PM wired it up the wrong way around and I suffered a cardiac arrest. Still I was in the right place to get it restarted.

Sorry, don't wish to hijack the OP's thread, hope they go and have a great cruise and many more to come.

Wow! Glad you're around to tell the story. 👍Best of luck to the OP.

  8. Exactly. I had a pacemaker fitted last October. I had a series of blackouts. They found I had 'complete heart block' which sounds really bad, but actually it is just a block of the electrical signals sent from the brain to the heart, and at times the heart just goes uncontrollably slow, causing the blood to the brain to pump too slow, resulting in too little oxygen, thus the blackouts. Been great since the pm was fitted, but a pm cannot slow a fast heart rhythm.

I think cardiologists are pretty good at giving you advice. They wouldn't tell you to go if they weren't as sure as they can be that you'll be ok. I would leave your decision as late a possible, and then ask again before going.

The heart itself has its own intrinsic electrical systems and signals originate within it. The brain doesn't send signals to the heart. This is why you can be brain dead say after a catastrophic stroke but your heart keeps on ticking. You are correct in that a heart rate too slow as in CHB will cause dizziness or syncope or passing out as there is an inadequate blood flow. The normal heart rhythm or sinus rhythm originates in the upper chambers of the heart or the atria or more specifically the sino-atrial node and then works its way down an electrical pathway to stimulate the lower chambers or ventricles to beat and it's the left ventricle that pumps blood out to your body. In CHB those signals don't get to the ventricles. Ventricles have their own intrinsic rate but it's quite slow, in the 30's sometimes and not nearly fast enough to pump enough blood out to meet the bodies needs thus you get dizzy or pass out. A gal I used to work with had a pm as a child for congenital CHB and she is fine, runs like crazy and is healthy as a horse.

You can also get dizzy from an SVT or a very fast heart rate as it's too fast for the ventricles to fill with blood and O2 delivery is reduced this way too.

I am glad you are ok. Keep on cruising.

  9. They have not suggested a pacemaker? My fathers girlfriend had this issue. She was in her 50's at the time and they were and still are very active people. She was getting light headed and dizzy said she would feel out of breath and they found it was her heart. They could not get it to stay at the proper rate ( she laughed and said she had bad wiring)because it's basically your body's electrical system. She had a monitior that she wore for so long and would have to call in and it gave a report over the phone of the heart rate during that day/ night. She wound up with a pacemaker. She hasn't slowed down since then.

Sent from my SM-J700T1 using Forums mobile app

Pacemakers are used for abnormally slow heart rates so what was the rhythm they treated? The OP has the opposite problem. Its too fast and you don't treat that with a pacemaker.

  10. As previously mentioned be sure to have trip insurance with emergency evacuation coverage. If your MD clears him knowing you will be at sea for 4-5 days away from a port that has up to date medical facilities then just decide where your comfort level is. I don't want to be away knowing I'd be worried.

As for invasive Rx. like a pacemaker or really an AICD or internal defibrillator as also suggested that's really up to you and your MD. Any competent cardiologist would know when it's time to try that.

    Good luck.

  11. Brisbane41, all that time and experience in Japanese baths seems to have boiled your brain and your sense of diplomacy!

OzKiwiJJ got it right the first time: one should use soap and water to CLEAN the body BEFORE entering the communal bath water.

I doubt anyone (myself included) read all the puffing and posturing.

Yep. Fellas got to be cool. It's about fun and not undercutting each other.

  12. While I appreciate everyone's comments on the status of Crown Princess as well as other cruise lines...it is a bit disheartening to hear such negativity. My husband and I are booked on the Crown for December and will be our 1st cruise with Princess - have always wanted to try them. We are both going into this with open mind- as we really are easy to please and come from the mind set a cruise is what you make of it. We have been loyal to RCCL and have also been on Disney, HAL, and 1 Carnival cruise - way back when. We, like so many are beginning to branch out too and try different lines, next year we have NCL Bliss- new ship, and Celebrity Edge- new ship to try and we are looking forward to both. I plan to do and write a full complete review of the Crown when I get back to provide another viewpoint which I hope will be a positive one amidst all the negative one. Life is short and we need to all remember to just relax and enjoy the gift of simply being able to cruise- so many will never ever have the chance to enjoy this type of vacation. We try to remember just how fortunate we are and enjoy all a cruise has to offer. Just a thought and I will let you know how our cruise goes. :)

Our last two cruises were on the Diamond and Sapphire and the reviews before we left were fair at best. However the ships were just fine and the service was what I have come to expect from Princess. I think you will enjoy it.
