This is a very interesting development.  For me, it is not relevant whether my health insurance covers the Covid test cost.  It would be nice if it does, but it doesn’t change what Regent has chosen to do.  What is important is (like previous posters have noted), that Regent is now downloading the pre-embarkation test costs to guests when it was previously included.  This feels like a bit of nickel/diming guests for an extra $99/ pp on what is really a $800-$1000/pp/ per day cruise. Doesn’t sound like an all inclusive luxury experience.   The 48 hour time frame makes no sense, given that many guests travel in advance. Regent also is forgetting that for concierge and above suites, guests arrive a day before their cruise…so now the test is in effect less than 24 hours before taking your flight.  And can you get a your results in time?

I also see that Regent had not updated its FAQ as it still references Regent providing the pre-embarkation test as well as the need for a the 72 hour pre-test which is (was??) required in order to receive a FCC/refund if testing positive at embarkation.  I wonder if that policy has also changed for 2022 departures??

As an aside, I was shocked when reading the recent Explorer transatlantic thread that Regent did no on-boarding Covid testing during that cruise (only 1 pre-embarkation and 1disembarkation testing). No testing during the cruise despite guest not being in a bubble (meaning guest were allowed to explore ports on their own).  I would have expected that there would be onboard periodic testing during the cruise duration (similar to some other luxury lines).  This all increases Covid risk.

I know many are anxious to and looking forward to future cruises, as am I. But the bottom line is that all this makes me feel a bit uncomfortable, and I question Regents change of approach on this.

+1.  One or two covid free cruises do not lessen the risk at this point.  I think RSSC is jumping the gun on loosening restrictions, regardless of who pays for it.  YMMV.

  2. I am on the 2/3/2022 Splendor cruise in a PHC Suite.  I have another 8 days until final payment.  I am having a hard time justifying this cruise, primarily because of the masking requirement.  I have cruised on Regent before and actually cancelled a previous Mediterranean cruise in September because I thought things would have settled down by next February.  My issue is with the all encompassing mask requirement onboard.  I am not willing to pay the premium prices for Regent if I have to wear a face covering on a 100% vaccinated guest and crew population. I understand there is a risk of excursions causing the possibility of a breakthrough infection.  But I take that risk every time I go grocery shopping even though I mask up for that (because there are no vaccination guarantees  for grocery shopping in SC).  I am on the fence as to whether to cancel.  Any thoughts?

    Thanks.  Be gentle.

"All the “worries” were unnecessary. We are 4 days on board the Splendor and everything has been perfect. Easy at LHR, only docs needed were passport. Testing at the ship was fast and efficient. Everyone must wear a mask on board except eating and drinking. I hate it, but get it. Sailing with around 400 guests is kinda awesome. Even all of our tours only have had about 16-20 people on them. Weather great, Scotland is gorgeous and welcoming!"

I hope this doesn't mean masks need to be worn in outdoor areas also.  That could be a deal breaker for me.

I just spoke with Regent and found out from their Hotel Dept. that only rooms from concierge and below have been assigned to the Conrad Hotel. There has been no determination of hotel assignment for Penthouse and above as of this moment. They are working on it.

Also of interest is the fact that if you choose to make your own hotel arrangements you will receive a credit of $150.00 per person which includes transfer from airport to hotel. In checking the Intercontinental Hotel room rates begin in excess of $400.00 per night. Transfers on your own. Just something to think about.

I am in a Penthouse C and have been assigned to the Conrad.  Bad Info.

  5. My wife and I were there on a Voyager cruise.  We were the only ship, and you have to use the NCL tenders to get to the docks.  We felt it was a waste of time.  There was more to do on the ship than the half empty island which felt desolate and empty.  Just our opinion.
