  1. But can you see how I’m confused? Post #5 is telling me we will be offending people if the boys and my husband don’t have pants on in the dining room, but then another posts links to the thread on dress code on Divina says that dress shorts are ok.

We honestly don’t want to offend anyone, but I can’t seem to get a straight answer! We will be flying to Miami so suitcase weight limits are a factor, and I don’t want to buy/pack clothes we won’t use.

The dress code is a bit of a controversial subject. Some people are very upset to see people wearing shorts of any kind anytime, and not wearing a tux or suit on formal night. Others would be happy wearing a ball cap and track pants for formal. Then there are the others that fall in the middle. The dress code is somewhat murky as it is enforced, if at all, differently by who is at the door.

  2. I have sailed Royal Caribbean twice, once out of Florida. I am booked MSC Seaview this June. I have never sailed MSC before, and I too did a lot of reading of poples opinions and reviews, photos etc. At first I was quite concerned about trying a new cruise line. But one thing I have found, is that some people love to complain about everything and anything. I know that I am going on a new ship with a new crew, and it won\t be perfect, but what is. The other cruises I did were amazing and if this one is anything like them, I will be more than happy!

I think for one, that many issues are that the Seaside is in a new market and people are expecting the exact same as the main stream US style of cruising. MSC has done a lot to correct the issues and I would not have any real worries of trying a new experience.

  3. I have a question that I just thought of, and was hoping someone might know. I would love to record a go on the Zip line on the Seaview. I have seen some on Youtube, and was wondering, can I record it using my GoPro mounted on a Grip handle (with lanyard so it can't fall) or must it on either a head or chest strap setup?

    Thanks in advance!

  4. I Finally got the complete answer from MSC on the Yacht club drink package. I was highly confused from MSC said and what people on here are saying. The Yacht Club drink package is not quite cut and dry as the web site states. When you are ordering drinks from the Yacht Club bars, everything except the "Super Premuim" is included. You also have the mini bar in the cabin as well. When you order drinks from the other bars on the ship, the selection is somewhat limited, more like the "classic" package. The gentleman from MSC stated that the upgrade was not worth it just to have a slightly better selection at other bars, so he refunded me the upgrade price I paid.

  5. MSC is being quite quiet on what the issue is, but are saying its only the 1st trip cancelled. She did complete her sea trials and according to social media posts they went well. Hard to say what is going on, but I think if it was something really big MSC would not have just pushed the dates ahead by only a few.

  6. I am looking on the MSC webpage, using the North American link, and on my booking, it states included "ALL-INCLUSIVE DRINK PACKAGE ADULT" which does not come with the (Premium brands are excluded). Yach club does include the use of the mini bar. If you prefer the "top shelf" alcohol. the extras at the spa and few others, it is offered as the Deluxe package.

When I phoned yesterday and asked about the delay of the Seaview, I also asked about the package and was tole the same thing. If you have a link or can tell me where the Deluxe is included, please show me and I can call them back. Thanks!

  7. OMG.. I am happy and sad at the same time. I am glad that the ship builders & MSC are taking the time to do it right, perhaps learning from the Seaside, but I have been so looking forward to my cruise on the 19th of June and hope that isn't cancelled as well!

  8. I called MSC AND our travel agent and both quoted $56 A DAY to upgrade on Aurea booking from Classic to Deluxe package. It makes no sense. The total would be $364 for the two adults. We kept telling them about the Cruise Critic Board and even provided a screen shot, but no one will honor the $56 per person upgrade. Is there a specific number you called to talk to an MSC representative that will honor it? We are on the Seaview out of Barcelona in July 2018. Do you think the upgrade for $56 is only for Caribbean?

I am sailing on the Seaview on the 19th June, and booked from the North American site. I had booked an interior Fantastica cabin and purchased the All-Inc classic drink package. A while later I upgraded myself to Yacht club, which has the classic included. I was refunded the price of the classic package. I later decided to get the Deluxe, and was told there is NO special price to upgrade. You just pay the difference between the two packages. My price that I paid was $182 for the upgrade. I had read that it would cost mosr if you do this on the ship, but don't know how true that is.

  9. Zoe&Shadow. The cruise line with the virtual balconies is Royal Caribbean. They are in the inside cabins on the Quantum class, and I believe on Oasis class, and are being put into the older ships as they are retrofitted They have also solo cabins called studio cabins. on the Quantum class, but when I was booking on the Anthem OT Seas, it was actually cheaper by a large amount to take a normal inside cabin with Virtual balcony (which is larger) then the solo studio cabin!

  10. Also have to say thanks for your review and the amazing photos! I am sailing on her sister ship the MSC Seaview in 44 Days, and it was so nice to see the photos and get an excellent idea of what to expect. This is my first MSC cruise and I had booked an interior cabin on deck 10, but after reading so much on this site about MSC I jumped and switched to an accessible Yacht Club cabin. Can not wait to sail her.

  11. I know that there is at least one person who believes that we should not pay the daily hotel charge.

Tonight I heard from a reliable source that not all of the daily hotel charge goes to the people that MSC claim it does! The rest is kept by MSC.

This truly is a disgusting act.

Tipping or DSC is such a hot topic depending of personal or cultural views. I have stated on here before that I personally believe in giving extra if and when it is due, and many, many of the women and men that work very hard for long hours to take care, feed, clean and serve us both directly and behind the scenes deserve our thanks and gratitude.

My question is what kind of source did you hear that the cruise line is keeping some of this money as revenue and not given to the workers? A crew member or 2nd hand info from online? If this is the case, you are always able do decline to pay the DSC and give the money directly to the servers, cabin attendant etc. however by doing it that way, it gives nothing to the others behind the scenes that might be deserving of some of the gratitude.

Here is a link to an older article on the topic. To sum this up easily, some will tip lots, others not so much and some none, and this will never change so long as cruise line are not 100% transparent on this subject.

  12. I am putting together my information sheet for my house-/pet-sitter, and I can not find the phone number to contact us on the Seaside if there is an emergency. I have a need to be thorough, and like to have every bit of detail that is possible in the info sheet. Then I can relax. :D

I have searched here, the MSC site, and all my paperwork and just don't see it. Does anyone know where this phone number is?

The seaside emergency numbers are locate on this link on the MSC webpage

    https://www.msccruisesusa.com/en-us/Manage-Your-Booking/General-Information.aspx

Scroll to the Useful Information tab, then go to the Ship Phone Number Tab, and it will open up and give the phone numbers for all MSC ships!\
