  1. Anyone taken the Doge's Palace Secret Itinerary Tour?

For those who have taken this tour, how much do you encounter small spaces?  Is this only getting from one room to the next?  Or are you in a small tight area for a little while?

The tour list "The spaces have, in some cases, small size and are on different levels connected by steep and narrow stairs: are therefore not accessible to those with mobility problems and is not recommended for those suffering from claustrophobia, vertigo of cardio-respiratory disorders."

My BIL has a slight problem with claustrophobia.  He will be fine if it is just a tight space for a brief time moving from one area to another.

I would appreciate any experience with this tour.

    Thanks,

    Rose

Most ATMs in Europe will give you a chance to do the transaction in 4 or 5 languages, including English. It will be the first or second screen you see. Select the British flag symbol.

I agree with the suggestion to look for actual, physical bank locations.

My main concern was finding the bank ATMs machines.  I read about having the option to select the language you desire.  Thanks for you information!

Looking for ones that are outside (or in the lobby of) actual bank branches is one strategy. Something like this is very common in larger cities/tourist areas:

Otherwise you can look for the name followed by "Bank" or "Banca,"  or learn the names of a few of the more common banks in the countries you'll visit, I guess.

Thanks for the info!  My concern was finding these ATMs in the tourist area.

  5. Since this is my first trip abroad I need some help.  I am assuming the ATMs will all be in in the native language (on the machine itself).  I know I will be able to select English to withdraw the funds.

Since I am reading that the bank ATMs are the best to use.  How can I tell if it is a bank ATM or a private company ATM?

  6. We are in port from 7am-4pm. Wish it was a little longer! :)

The 4 and 5 hour tours go to many additional places, which is why I was considering a private tour. I like to see and do as much as possible!!!:D

    Thanks for the replies!

  7. Thanks to everyone for the recommendations and suggestions. It looks like, after much deliberation and compromise (hard pleasing four people with four different sets of views), here is what we ended up with:

QUEBEC CITY Arrive: 7:00 AM Depart: 5:00 PM

We are doing a Shorex here: “A Walk through Old Quebec & Wine Tasting” $69.95 per person, 3 Hours

A nice little walking tour through Old Quebec that ends up with a wine tasting…and my wife and her sister love wine tastings…We could have done this on our own…or with a cheaper local tour, but I’m okay with this one. Since it doesn’t leave until 1:00 pm, my wife and I might walk around the port area in the morning, then return to the ship for lunch, then the tour…

CHARLOTTETOWN, Prince Edward Island Arrive: 8:00 AM Depart: 5:00 PM

Here we are doing a private tour with a well-reviewed local guide: “Lighthouses and Winery” tour--5 hrs. The ship offers a very similar tour with one less lighthouse…and this one ends up being cheaper and we will have only the four of us fitting comfortably in a van built for six passengers rather than a 40+ person busload.

SYDNEY, Nova Scotia Arrive: 8:00 AM Depart: 4:00 PM

Our second cruise line shorex here: “Relive History at the Fortress of Louisbourg” $84.95 4 Hours

My brother-in-law is a history buff and this one was his call. Sounds sort of interesting to me too. I see where it might have been done “on our own” by renting a car, but the rest of my party feels better if it’s packaged into a tour for us.

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia Arrive: 8:00 AM Depart: 4:00 PM

Here we found a local provider with a 5-6 hour tour of Halifax and Peggy’s Cove. Price is way better than anything the cruise line offers…and, again, just the four of us—much better than a packed big bus. Plus, we can customize some of the Halifax portion to our liking.

BAR HARBOR, Maine Arrive: 8:00 AM Depart: 5:00 PM

We’re doing the 10:00 am tour with Acadia National Park Tours-- 2.5 to 3 hours. Well-priced at $30 pp plus tax. Doing it at 10:00 am leaves us plenty of time to grab a bite to eat for lunch and walk around town on our own afterwards.

Would you share the information of the private provider in Halifax? Sounds like you have a great plan for each port.

  8. Does anyone know where to find the ferry schedule?? This looks like a great place, but I would want to know exactly how much I would be at Blue Lagoon. Thanks!!

Here is what the website states "Our boats depart for Blue Lagoon Island at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Our boats depart from Blue Lagoon Island at: 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m."

  9. I am sailing on Allure of the Seas (Royal Caribbean) in June. We are in port from 7am to 2pm, not that long. I am struggling with to do while in port. Looking into several options including Blue Lagoon.

In the description it states it starts at 8am. It does not state when you have to come back. For those that have booked through Royal, what time do you head back? From where does the ferry leave in relation to the cruise ship?

I walked over to the Hilton last summer. It was fine but I was looking into other options.

I really wanted to give Tru Bahamian Food tours a try but they dont seem to have any tours the day I will be there. I am torn between a beach day and a walking tour.

Here is what their website states "Our boats depart from Blue Lagoon Island at: 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m."
