While I agree that folks not listening and talking make the drill more difficult, it is what we expect from the herd of cats.  The only real important take away from a passenger drill is to know where and when to show up.  The rest of the information is good to have, but not life critical.  In a real emergency, you would be told at the time, and led to what to do.

The 3 rules for passengers:  Show up, Shut up, Listen up.  And the first is the really important one.

Crew take a very different attitude towards passenger behavior when it is the real thing.  They have been trained to allow nearly all guest behavior all the time as an adjunct of the service industry.  But when they know that their lives depend on how the cats behave, they change that attitude quickly.  Carnival, unfortunately, appears to be one of the worst lines with regards to enforcing rules during drills, with other lines having Captains making announcements that the drill will not progress further until the cats are paying attention, but this also depends on the Captains' own sense of professional responsibility.

It just seems that every cruise they do less at the drill.  I have done this enough to know what to do but these short cruises are full of first time cruisers that would not have a clue after something like that.  Even if you wanted to pay attention it would be difficult, you could barely hear anything that was being said. I’m comparing the same ship from Feb to May.

Wow I hate to hear that. Every cruise we were on they held us until everyone was accounted for an they went over the the life vest, whistle etc.

All they did was wait for everyone to arrive, read the script over the PA and release everyone.

  3. The last cruise for me was Victory back on May 10th.  Again, it was outside.  During the entire drill nobody stopped talking and they never demonstrated how to put the life vest on. The drill was a total joke.  If there had been a real emergency nobody would have had a clue what to do.  Everyone standing around me that wasn’t talking was on their phone doing various social media.

Hmmm. $50 spa card, that's a new idea. What, if any are the restrictions? If there's no minimum spend then that's something nice and different. If there's a minimum amount you need to spend in order to use it then it's worthless.

The last time I checked there was nothing for $50

  5. Anyone have comments on the new Victory Itinerary? As of now they no longer overnight in Nassau. You have the sea day on Saturday and then a short stay in Nassau on Sunday.

A bunch of places were closed due to it being Sunday. The restaurant I always go to was closed, I saw several stores closed.  You get there at 8am and have to be back by 4:30pm, no more late nights off the ship.

  6. Deck 1is not bad, I always get an OV cabin.  I’m basically in there to sleep, not a big deal.  I would rather go several times a year with a lower cabin than blow it all with something more expensive.

On my next cruise I had booked an OV on deck 1. Several weeks ago I was upgraded to a balcony on deck 6 for $26, yesterday they upgraded that to a deck 8 balcony for another $26.

Question for experienced cruisers? How do you carry your sign and sail card? Do they provide some kind of lanyard with card holder? Or do people put them in their wallets? I'm imagining wanting to wander around the ship without a purse, and my kids don't usually carry wallets, so how do people keep their cards on them? Actually, because our room reservations don't match where we will actually be sleeping, both my oldest son and I are going to have to carry two cards with us -- one for charging and one for access to the room we are sleeping in. So double the consideration. 😉

I carry it in my pocket, works fine. I have never tried using a lanyard.
