  1. Understanding that the ship WILL be doing some prep work for the dry dock, will ensure you don’t have the “no one told us...” post here on CC. This could include closing the theater and not doing shows.

We sailed immediately after the Epic’s dry doc and had our embarkation date changed several times. We understood EXACTLY what we were booking and adapted as “expected” changes occurred. And we had minor work continue in our cabin during the cruise.

An NCL lackey, if I ever saw one! Is NCL ever in the wrong for you? smh

  2. Just in case you need a certificate, I have one that in all probability I will not be using. I'm sure we can work something out if you or anyone else reading this post is interested. It's all very legit and above board, just trying to find someone who might need a certificate and may make better use of it, like I said, I do not see me using this certificate. My email is amchav@juno.com

  3. as much as I love the liquor package, don't kid yourself, it isn't really free and as for the hotels, most of them that offer the happy hour have slightly higher prices as well, along with the happy hour is exactly that 1 hour.

Please pardon my wicked sense of humor Nita, but isn't that why it's called Happy HOUR? ;););):D:D:D

  4. Welcome back to Cruise Critic after 8 years.

Sorry, you thought all cruise lines would allow you to bring liquor on ships to drink for free? It's like bringing your own liquor into bars and restaurants.

Actually in some countries, Australia being one of them, BYO (Bring Your Own) is VERY common in restaurants! They usually charge $1-$2 (Australian Dollars) corkage fee.

  5. good for you and this is why we keep all our receipts. if there is a question we have the proof we need. Luckily for us, we have never had a billing problem that I can remember. We have had to complain of occasion about service. Always, the cruise line has made whatever complaint we have had, good. Like bad service in Le Bistro, we got another LeBistro dinner.

We must have been on the same cruise.

I ordered a bottle of St. Regis non-alcoholic wine with my dinner at Le Bistro, it took the server 45 minutes to get it, before I left I told the hostess "It would have been nice to have had the wine WITH my dinner" .... she gave me another Le Bistro dinner.

  6. Ill bet there is a big difference being on an enclosed narrow tube with that idea.

I bet there is, however, having said that I think that on every form of public transportation that I can think of within the US smoking is not allowed. I could be wrong and I am sure somebody will correct me if I am wrong.

Just to be clear, I have nothing against smokers....I've been there, used to go thru 3 CARTONS every single week!

  7. I have an NCL CruiseNext future cruise certificate that I am thinking of using on a cruise I am looking at onboard the Epic. If I do not use it on this cruise, I am not averse to letting it go to someone who may make better use of it. My email is in my signature.

Is it true that the Epic's Lido Deck is not fully accessible to regular cruisers, that half the Lido Deck is occupied by the Haven suites? Is it true that areas open to the outdoors/to the seas are very limited on this huge ship? How about the Promenade deck, is this also very limited in area and does not go around the ship?

I would appreciate information from people who have firsthand experience of this, please.

  8. I still think that smoking should be banned outright on cruises to/from/within the USA much like it is banned on flights to/from/within the USA.

I am surprised Uncle Sam has not passed legislation to this effect yet.

  9. It really seemed like a process. I needed to fill out paper work and forward it to them and then send some kind of email. Seemed like nothing but a hassle. Cancel and rebook seemed much easier. Only down side was I lost my original cabin that I had booked. I probably could call the travel website back and get it switched but it's not that big of a deal.

Danielle, if I may ask you, did you apply any CruiseNext Future Cruise Certificates to this booking. Reason I ask is because I have one that I may not be using and if you did not use one, maybe you would be interested in it. It's all very legit and above board, ok. My email address is amchav@juno.com

  10. So I ended up just canceling the NCL reservation and rebooking on the other site. Would liked to just transfer it but it take 7-10 business days and I was afraid the price would increase.

    Thanks for all the input.

Really? It takes 7-10 business days to transfer the booking? Anytime something is costing NCL money, (in this case a commission payable to your travel agent which NCL would not have had to pay when you booked directly with them) NCL sure know how to take their time. I cannot imagine how on Earth a simple booking transfer would take 7-10 business days. The last time I transferred a booking directly under my name (but with Princess Cruises) to a travel agent, it took all of perhaps 3 minutes on the phone, they did it immediately. Just WOW NCL!!!!

  11. We did the transatlantic crossing on the Epic last fall. We went to every show in the main theater and all the comedians and other entertainers. We made all our reservations on our TV in the cabin and never had a problem getting in to any venue. We found that generally almost every show was not "sold out" and reservations would not have been needed. One act that was consistently crowded was the 80s rock band Siglo which plays in the Cavern. The venue is too small--they are excellent and had a very loyal following after a few nights on the ship. (This is one of the acts which is "first come first served" so there are no reservations)

Good luck and enjoy all the relaxing days at sea! (I'm envious!)

Thank you sincerely CruisinHusker, that IS excellent info, exactly what I was looking for.

  12. You SHOULD/must reserve seats for the two main theater shows Burn the Floor and Percilla.

You MUST reserve a table at specialty restaurants. The most popular are Cagney’s Steakhouse and Teppanyaki.

You can do both on your MyNCL account.

If you do not reserve in advance (like before you cruise) do you mean to say that you run the risk of not being able to see those 2 shows if you just show up at showtime?

The specialty restaurants I have always made reservations but never that far in advance, as in before the cruise!

I have always made the reservations at the dining reservations desk next to the Purser's Desk. We prefer the French Bistro, the Italian Restaurant and Moderno over Cagney's and Teppanyaki.

The cruise I am considering is a 2 week requisitioning so I am thinking maybe the crowds may be more leisurely accommodated because of the length of the cruise or am I missing something here?

  13. I am considering a cruise on the EPIC.

Is it necessary to reserve in advance (before you cruise) the seats for the shows in the main theater?

Is it necessary to reserve in advance (before you cruise) the table for specialty/pay dining?

Is there anything else that is recommended you book in advance before you even cruise?

Activities that I usually participate in are trivia and game-shows during the day and dinner and then a show at night so any info related to these activities that need to be booked in advance would be appreciated.

There is no need to address any Spa or Gym related activities that require an advance booking as I do not participate in either of these.

I am kinda torn between booking on the EPIC or just passing on it as if it requires that you structure your evening plans well in advance, to me, it seems that it defeats NCL's Freestyle cruising concept. I have been on quite a few cruises but none of them have been on ships bigger than 3000 passenger capacity and I surely am somewhat hesitant about making the leap into cruising on the mega-ships although I would like to try at least once.

    Thanks in advance.

  14. Perhaps Uncle Sam should get involved and much like smoking is forbidden on flights to/from and within the United States, so should smoking be banned from cruises to/from and within the United States. That would take care of the problem by making the ships totally smoke-free.

    Just some food for thought.
