  1. What time of year did you go? I'm hoping mid October won't be busy
  2. I was considering doing this as well. The resort itself has very good reviews. There was another resort that has day passes that included lunch but the reviews were terrible.
  3. We were specifically advised against renting a moped by the cruise line the first time we went to Bermuda. If you have no prior experience driving a moped, Bermuda is NOT the place to try it.
  4. It feels uphill both ways though once you've been in the sun all day lol. And I definitely prefer private taxi now too
  5. The poor Bermudians, you can read in the comments how angry they are about it. They need the tourism business!
  6. I forgot to mention that taxis are a easy and reliable way to get around the island. We've also never taken any tours or excursions through the cruise line there because we like to explore ourselves. Definitely don't miss out on the Crystal Caves too!
  7. 1) We are going to Bermuda leaving on October 16th, we have been during that time once before and had fairly smooth sailing (Anthem of the Seas). The last day back you could definitely feel some swells but it was nothing unbearable, just rougher than the Caribbean. We went twice in May, one sailing was crazy 9-10 foot swells (Celebrity Summit), the other I never felt the ship move once (Norwegian Joy). 2&3) Weather is permissible for swimming, but the water is not nearly as warm as it is in the Caribbean. We've been swimming in May and October. You won't find a huge shopping district like in other ports (definitely no designer stores), but there is the Clock Tower Mall where you will find local stores and artisans. There is a TON of military history in Bermuda and the history of the island in general is super interesting, you could easily spend half a day at the National Museum of Bermuda exploring the fort and old commissioner's house. We love making the trip to the Aquarium and Natural History Museum located a short way out of the capital Hamilton. St Georges is a gorgeous sleepy town with shops and restaurants and lots of history. 4) Renting a car is definitely NOT easy or necessarily recommended. Bermudians are only allowed one car per household and they drive on the wrong side of the road! You can, however rent small 1-2 person covered electric cars but we prefer to use the public transportation. You can easily catch a ferry from the dock to Hamilton or St. George's (although the public ferry is currently not going to St George's, Norwegian has a private ferry that goes back and forth). You can buy an unlimited bus/ferry pass for the 1-3 days you're docked there. The busses are clean, fairly reliable, and it's very difficult to get lost on that island because it's so small! This will be our 4th cruise there and it is our favorite place to cruise to by far! The people are so friendly, everyone speaks English, they accept US dollars at a 1-1 exchange rate, crime rate is extremely low. It's the best, enjoy 🙂
  8. I vote private taxi. you can leave whenever you want. Bottom line, I would just never do the cruise line excursion.
  9. I think the best way is private taxi, $35 each way. You could also pay $7 per person for public shuttle, but you'll be packed in like sardines and have to wait until it fills up to go. You could also do public transportation by bus, about $3 per person, but you catch the bus at the bottom of the hill.
  10. They are available to be booked 100%, however I'm sailing on the Disney Magic on October 16th, and it looks like approximately 70% of inside rooms, 50% of oceanview, and 40% of balconies are still empty. If you go on Priceline cruises and do a mock booking you can see how many cabins of each type are still available. I'm super excited that this cruise looks to be mostly empty
  11. I called the Pompano Beach resort about day passes a few weeks ago. They said they open up a few passes 4-5 days in advance. It's super cheap, I think like $40 per person. It's a quick taxi ride from the dock.
  12. The dock offers 4 hours free wifi I believe. You can purchase additional time for not too much more. It will work on lower level balconies facing the dock
  13. We opted for the 2 hour PCR results instead of the 1-2 day PCR because we had to travel and didn't want to have to find out after we got to the terminal that he was positive. Insurance only covers tests for exposure, and most drugstores won't test children under 3. He was 2.5.
  14. I know that.. other cruises, those in the Caribbean
  15. We absolutely love Bermuda and have been on three cruises there, last in May and we are going again in October! What I love about Bermuda verses other Caribbean cruises is that you typically get at least one overnight in the port. That means you can truly explore the island at your leisure without scrambling to get back to the boat in time. Everyone on the island speaks English and accepts American money. The island is small and one thing we like to do is take the ferry to St. George's (although I hear it is currently not running) and make our way back leisurely by bus. You can get unlimited public transportation passes that are really reasonable and the public transit is clean and easy to navigate. If you dock at King's Warf definitely make sure you check out the National Museum of Bermuda. You could easily spend 3-4 hours there exploring the different exhibits and fort, commissioner's house, and grounds. I had no idea about Bermuda's military history and close ties to the early settlers in Jamestown, VA. If you're adventurous and mobile check out the crystal caves! It does involve hundreds of steep steps in the dark though, so be warned! Horseshoe Bay is their famous beach, but also check out Tobacco Bay and Clearwater Beach. We love their small Aquarium and Zoo. There is a nice waterside district in Hamilton with shopping and restaurants. There is a lot to love about Bermuda!
  16. Our cruise isn't until October, but last time we were there we just asked front desk or hostess stands at restaurants to call us a cab. I suppose you could just get their number and call if you have an international plan.
  17. We arrived at the terminal around 10:00. Immediately there was a line to the door for security. The line was so long because it kept backing up because of the Bermuda Travel Authorization line. Once you got through that line you may or may not have had to get tested depending on if you tested at home before or had kids who needed testing. After that you had to wait in line for check in. That line for some reason took the longest. The whole process took 2.5 hours. We didn't get on the ship until 1 pm. It was a mess. Masks were required at the port at the time but only about 30% were wearing masks. People were crammed in like sardines in line. We will be arriving as early as possible next time so that at least we can move freely around the terminal instead of being stuck in line.
  18. I certainly hope that's the case. I was just hoping to hear if they got their act together for the large cruises because hopefully that means the Disney Magic will be a breeze. For what it's worth, the Joy was only sailing with 2900 passengers, which is about the capacity of the Magic.
  19. If you don't wash your hands after you serve yourself at buffets you are asking for the runs. And THAT'S a fact.
  20. We found the by-the-glass wine selection to be very poor on the Joy. About two nights in we gave up on the wines and learned that we have to order our cocktails "double" in order for them to have a significant amount of alcohol in them.
  21. Hi all! We sailed on the Joy 29th sailing to Bermuda and to say embarkation was hellish would be an understatement. I swore we'd never leave out of that terminal again, yet... here I am! We booked a Disney cruise out of there in October because we got a really good deal. I am wondering if the chaos in May was related to growing pains post pandemic, Norwegian, or the terminal in general. I'd love to hear your recent stories! TIA!
  22. You can tell me how it is then! My trip isn't until October 18th 😅
  23. There is no priority boarding for Suite guests out of NYC. Only Haven. It didn't matter that our boarding passes clearly stated "priority" on them we still had to wait in line with everybody else 😕
  24. I can confirm, we sailed on the Joy out of Manhattan in May in a suite and our boarding passes clearly said "Priority" or something like that. We tried showing several workers our passes and asked where the "priority" line was and they said the only priority they recognized was Haven. It took us almost 3 hours to get through all of the lines to board. I would recommend getting there as early as possible.
