SailorJack.
I am indebted to a CC member, KathyPet, who induced me to leave the Regent Seven Seas board to read your review. It is great. You have an eye for the funny things in life and you describe them with wit and class. Somehow I will have to try and keep in touch with your posts.

Great pictures, TCLOhio. We, too, loved the Lofoten though we took a ship's (Regent Voyager) tour.
All the big car hire companies are represented in Tromsoe both in town and at the airport. Like most things in Norway, they tend to be expensive.

What do you think of this new passport application form?
http://papersplease.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/ds5513-proposed.pdf
Is this a joke? Or do the "authorities" want US citizens to stay in the US. And this from the "Land of the Free"

Thank you Seabourn-nail, those Jacqui Lawson cards are terrific.
Best wishes to you also (and to JaneBP and all the others who make CC such a pleasure to read.)

The "Police" is always confusing and difficult for me as well...
Marja
Surely plural?
"The police are coming" sounds better than " the police is coming"
(and will they ever get here?)

I think the official title is "The Yachts of Seabourn". Make of that what you will. Seabourn itself is, of course, singular.

No, it reads every saturday night until midnight THROUGH October 2nd. October 2nd is a Saturday, so it ends at midnight on October 2nd. Not UNTIL.
Host Dan
Thank you. I wish the Americans wouldn't keep mangling the English language! :)

If you plan on being in Rome on October 2, '10.

Thank you. That is very interesting, but what does "through Oct 2" and "through Oct 10" mean? Does it mean ON those dates, FROM those dates or UNTIL those dates.? I know the term is in common use in the USA but it is ambiguous to me. Any help would be appreciated.

For those stopping in Singapore, the restaurant in the Mandarin Oriental, Dolce Vita, received a good review here;
I stayed there a while ago and enjoyed it very much. But I did not eat there. There are so many small vendors in the malls and in the street with dekicious food sold so cheaply. It is a shame not to sample them.

Just back from a weeks cruise.. Anyone miss me? ;)
Host Dan
??
Remind me. Mr. Host. Should we know you? Have you been around a long time.
p.s. Welcome back.

I, too, like this informal thread where off topic and fun observations can be posted. I particularly enjoy JaneBR's sharing of interesting items and photos which she spots in her readings. It is enterprising of this board to have such a site and long may it continue.

New proposed a la carte pricing on QEII:
One more reason (for me, anyway) not to cruise on Cunard.

Always there for me, too, on every post.

I know ... tipping is not required or expected ... but it happens ... and it is appreciated. What is the "not spoken about" tipping process/amount? I don't want to come off my cruise with the realization that I should have tipped. I am in the industry ... a land based hotel ... and the service industry is suffering big time ... not only in business but in the generosity of both company and patron.
I suppose it is hard to get into the frame of mind to accept that "tipping is neither required or expected" but it is a fact. You will not encounter any sort of unspoken requirement. You have paid for the exceptional service in your cruise fare. If you do encounter some extra special, stand-out service, the crew fund is the way to go.
The smiles and attention you will get from the staff are not coloured by the expectation of a tip.

River Thames cut from Tube Map!
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/travelnews/6193145/River-Thames-cut-from-London-Tube-map.html
The proposition only lasted a few hours, I understand, and the decision has been overturned. The Thames is back!

Use the loo before boarding the airplane??
And it's not even April 1st!

Celebration New York: Empire State Building in Orange!
400 years ago the Dutch ship "De Halve Maen" arrived in Manhattan.
The Dutch royal family is in New York to celebrate as well as a replica of that ship and many more.
Though the Dutch flag is red-white-blue, our national colour is: Orange!
Marja
And the Dutch football team beat Scotland 0-1 this week, too. Truly a blessed people! ;)

I had a similar problem on another forum some 3 years or so ago and though I am a bit vague about the details, the difficulty was with my computer and I think it was because Java was out of date. Installing the up-to date version cured it.

No difference here either. On Vista and IE 8.

I like the tracker at http://marinetraffic.com/ais/datasheet.aspx?datasource=V_SHIP&level1=220
To find, for example Pride, enter Seabourn Pride in the vessel's name box hit "search" and make a note of the MMSI number. Go to the "Position History" tab, enter the MMSI number and you can click on the most recent position.
You must enter the full ship name, eg Seven Seas Voyage, Seabourn Pride to find the MMSI number.

I've been traveling with them since I was 32. Host Dan
Looking at your avatar you are only about 33 now! :p

I was on the Voyager over Christmas and had a delightful time.
Yes. I read and enjoyed your review. I was especially interested because you mentioned wheelchair assistance. Since our last cruise (Regent SS Mariner Panama Canal 2007) my wife has had some health problems and now needs a wheelchair to get around. We hope she will largely be able to manage once on board, but our recollections of other Regent cruises is that there is willing help available for excursions etc. and I have no reason to doubt that Seabourn would be equally accommodating.

The original coupon. So you would (for once) have to use the old fashioned mail! It's still possible!
Marja
Thank you, Marja. If I am able to go ahead with my plan to try a Seabourn cruise I will have to plead for a coupon in good time before final payment then. Meanwhile I am off on Regent Voyager around Norway at the end of June.

I am sure you would appreciate the alcohol all inclusive policy. Though I doubt the guests include anyone of the miniscule, green bikini you elegantly described. We are mostly old codgers.
