  1. Why don't you phone and ask your insurance agent, Trip Advisor or the Insurance Store? If you have any current coverage (other than Medicare), call them and ask for advice.

If hospitalized, good evacuation coverage such as Medjet would at least get you home, where I assume you're covered.

  2. I usually ask the waiter to suggest the lower sodium options, and he guides me through the menu. Often he consults with the chef. I pretty much leave it in their hands.

For example, this July the cookstaff located a can of salt free crab and made my crab cakes from that. I would never have asked them to go to so much trouble, but those crabcakes sure were good!

  3. Does anyone know if travel insurance can be transferred to the new cruise? I understand that it depends on the company, but is there any company that will transfer policies?

With pre-existing conditions, we are forced to take out our insurance soon after our initial deposit.

  4. We booked on board last December and were offered $600 OBC.

The website keeps lowering that amount. I call and get it corrected. The website has lowered it by the next time I check, and the dance goes on.

I have the invoice kindly emailed me by the Captain's Club, but I have no idea what will occur when we board this December 5.

  5. If this is the same program I was invited to apply for, it's not Celebrity employees but people who, after going through a process of applying, will be these Social Media people. There was a rather interesting process where you had to answer questions about Celebrity, do a typing, grammar and spelling test. I started the process, but didn't finish up. It is a paid program and you're expected to put in so much time a week answering questions from Celebrity customers or potential customers.

    Darcie, were they offering compensation?

  6. So are 'Social Media Ambassadors' frequent passengers who are asked to post out of brand loyalty or are they given incentives to post on social media?

I'm part of the Amazon Vine program; free products are provided in exchange for reviews. But each review is tagged with a notice stating goods were exchanged for services. And the value of the proucts is reported to IRS as income.

  7. Chris, I agree about the espresso fee. It doesn't go along with the ambience they're trying to present. Either we're being grand....or we're being nickle and dimed again.

Can I request a salad entree? Do I have to do it in advance? (This is a lot of rich food and after a while it may be more than I can enjoy.)

  8. Even Royal Caribbean (already know about Celebrity Solstice)????? I have taken RCI's Seattle-Seattle itinerary where we have cruised Tracy Arm but the Alllen Marine tour was not offered.

Were you on early or later season cruises? This is a summer offering. Our May HAL cruise didn't offer it either.

  9. I've had similar problems here in the USA and a quick phone calll straightened it out. The CS rep simply went back and checked the original booking.

Adding on gratituties seems to be a too common error.

I don't chill well under stress either, but I really think you have nothing to worry about if you call. But do call on Monday.

  10. I agree with the OP that cruising offers an 'easy button' approach that many of us enjoy.

Have you read up on shore excursions at TripAdvisor.com? We found a lovely guide there last year for a Ketchikan walk. She's a native American (Tracy Wolf of Wolf Tours) and it was low key and easy for our varied age group. If you don't enjoy walking, guides like Tracy will take you for individual motor tours that respect your needs.

I'm sure that there are many such guides availalble in the other ports you'll be visiting.

Whatever you decide, I hope that you travel together for many years to come.

  11. We're not 'squeaky wheels' but have gotten great service from the Michael's Club staff. And we tip accordingly. $50 each for a seven day, and $100 to the butler who has so far always been excellent.

I agree that only good service deserves recognition. And we do mention them by name in our end of cruise evaluation.

    btw, Anca is the amazing!

  12. I've enjoyed reading this thread. We've had five HAL cruises followed by two on Celebrity with another booked for this December.

Since no line in our price range is perfect, we'd consider going back to HAL if the circumstances were right.

HAL's balcony smoking policy was a problem on only one or two of our cruises. But the slow main dining room service was an issue three of five times. The bars truly are quiet in the evenings, but we're quiet people and enjoy that far more than the Celebrity hustle.

I'm waiting for someone to assure me that HAL's food has improved, then I'll go back. Right now Celebrity has us hooked with their suite and specialty restaurants.
