    Fantastic post.

Some of my thoughts in blue

I feel like you are conflating size with use. Every indication from captain's Q&A's is that Project Discovery will be closer to the size of Voyager/Freedom than Radiance. It's all about the economics. When people talk about Project Discovery "replacing" Vision and Radiance it is the use. Vision and Radiance go places that even the Voyager class can not go, whether that's due to height, design (life boats hanging over the hull lines), emissions (I believe Project Discovery will be LNG), passenger count or possibly even the lack of self-contained tendering capabilities. I believe (partially in the project name itself - Discovery), that the idea is to replace Vision and Radiance in the more unique ports and itineraries.

Icon and Oasis will be served by the same dozen or so large Caribbean and Western Mediterranean ports. Project Discovery could do these and the multitude of smaller ports. Plus British Isles, Iceland, Greece, and hopefully Norwegian Fjords and the Arctic Circle. Maybe one might do another Ultimate World Cruise.

My daughter and granddaughter board on the 30th. She was a bit confused by the app, since the Oasis is interporting (is that what it’s called?) and embarks and disembarks in both Barcelona and Rome?

    Some threads on interporting:

Can you carry the drinks forward to the next day if not you have not had 4 in one day ??

nope. Use them or loose them.

At the end of the night, before you go back to your cabin, you can get unopened water, soda, or possibly canned/bottled beer for any unused vouchers and put them in your fridge for a future day.

  4. Like @GJustice, I've had terrible luck with RCS when roaming internationally, including cruise ships. RCS being converted to SMS, things not going through or taking hours. I don't trust it at all.

As a few have mentioned before, WhatsApp is the way to go. It's what the crew uses, and if you are in a Star suite, it's how you communicate with your Genie. Zero issues.

Please post the link where you got this information. I am on my 10th RCI cruise this year right now and I have yet to hear any staff officer at a top tier event, 340 plus luncheon, etc. state that RCI will definitely be building a new smaller class ship. Over a year ago I heard on multiple cruises that Utopia would be the last Oasis class ship.  We now know that has changed. Obviously I don’t have access to RCI’s financial books, but common sense tells you the bigger ships are more profitable, otherwise why build another Oasis class ship. If all the financial evidence RCI has access to points to larger ships generating the most profit, they would be foolish to build a new, smaller class of ship.

As there has been no official announcement, there are no links to give you. However, if you go back over this thread (as well as other Project Discovery threads), you will see that many captains have made comments about Project Discovery with some indication of size, and design considerations. Further Michael Bayley has mentioned it in earnings calls or something (I don't recall where - but it's probably in this thread).

The captain's corner on Adventure in March said all captains were told about Discovery class and that it would come online in 2028/2029.

That might be a bit optimistic, as I think someone posted a ship orders list somewhere in the last year and any ship yard that could build it is booked until 2029 for starts. But I would be very happy if the 2028/2029 is correct.

Actually, both my wife and I posted 18 April

Doh! my bad, I missed that!

BTW, in post 9, you quoted your original post, but didn't add anything to it. Still wondering which ship you were referring to.

Hi, my sister and I are thinking of flying into AMS to arrive on Sunday morning vs. Monday morning in order to have 2 days there instead of 1 before we board the Viking ship.

Are most shops, museums (Anne Frank), restaurants open on Sundays?

In general, it's a tourist city. We were there on a Saturday & Sunday and nothing we planned to do was closed.

Anne Frank is open every day, with a few exclusions:

    https://www.annefrank.org/en/museum/tickets/

You must buy your tickets 6 weeks in advance!

Riks Museum is open every day

I heard that Bionic Bar has been replaced with "The Pesky Parrot." What say ye?

What ship are you referring to?

On Utopia, yes, this is a known fact. It's been in the deck plans on the RC site for months.

If it's Allure and in regards to the Amplification next March, please post your source.

I have wondered if they might do this. and posted it a few times in Allure related threads talking about the Amplification. But as of yet, there has been no official statement from Royal Caribbean as to what will happen in the amplification. All we have at this point is the original list of changes from the 2020 Press Release, which has Bionic Bar.

There was a thread here, but it was moved someplace.

I thought so, but I couldn't find any note in the RC topics indicating that a thread was moved. Anyway, there is a thread in the Carnival board. Title seem familiar. I wonder if maybe an RC one was merged into it. I don't think merged threads leave notes like moved threads do.

All of the GS on Radiance class ships have an overhang above them - the way the pool deck extends out is the problem.

This is the flaw with the Radiance class, and I think RC realized it and I don't think they've done it since. But, every suite JS to the Royal suite is on Deck 10. The only exception being the 3 2BR GS's, which are on 7, 8, & 9. (Brilliance and Radiance have a 4th on 10). They are all under the pool deck or the WJ (or other restaurants). At the back end, there's 2 semi-circular areas that stick out even further. I suppose the suites on the back end, which still being under the WJ outdoor area, they don't have the overhang to deal with.

We were kind of between semi-circular areas on Jewel for Arctic Circle. We knew this going in, and we accepted that for being in a JS. The only other option would have been to downgrade to a OV. This was booked under COVID double points, so as a 24-night B2B, we got 96 points 🙂 Straight from D to D+. As much as I've seen bad reviews about noise, that was never an issue for us. So, in the end, totally worth it.

So wifi is included on those 3 ships no others for sky junior suites?

It's for icon utopia and spectrum, no other...

Yep/ Looks that way. I kind of get Spectrum, since it operates a bit differently for suites, but really, when they include only Icon and Utopia, that makes no sense. Either include all ships of those classes or none. This pick & choose just seems arbitrary and petty. But I believe that if they are calling it "Sky", it should have all Sky benefits.

When these sky JS first were offered they came with wifi and I'd have been interested. Then a TA posted they took away the included wifi unless you were already booked before the charge.

I'm confused myself. What is extra they are now changing for after the wifi removed from the sky JS.

I agree. I would have totally considered a Sky Jr on ships that have them now if they included WiFi, but at the premium I've seen, totally not worth it. I too was kind of excited when they first announced them, and disappointed when they took it way.

Ok great news. I thought I read they took away included wifi. That's all I want to make my day. I hate to feel cut off from the world.

They did. It depends on the ship.

    https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/what-are-the-benefits-of-royal-suite-class

    The disclaimer:

*** VOOM Surf + Stream package is not available for Sky Junior Suites sailing on Allure of the Seas®, Anthem of the Seas®, Harmony of the Seas®, Oasis of the Seas®, Odyssey of the Seas®, Ovation of the Seas®, Quantum of the Seas®, Symphony of the Seas® and Wonder of the Seas®. Sky Junior Suites sailing on Icon of the Seas®, Spectrum of the Seas® and Utopia of the Seas® have this benefit included.

When originally announced, Spectrum was the only ship where it was included due to the differences in the way they run that ship from China for the Chinese market. Interesting that they've since added Icon and Utopia. Icon, ok, and I would suspect Star will be also, but why just Utopia in the Oasis class???

I kind of wonder how they manage the toilets, I mean how many do you need for such a stadium, is there some statistics or ratio or something that planners apply? Sorry, all practical housewife here.

That will vary by country, state, and possibly sports.

Our local NFL team's stadium is U.S. Bank Stadium (Minnesota Vikings). Seats 66,655.

A local news story on "how many bathrooms" says that Minnesota building code says for huge venues, 1 toilet for every 60 women and 1 toilet/urinal for every 120 men. The code further says 3:2 women's toilets to men's. As they use the stadium for more than football, they figure 50:50 men:women.

By my calculations, that would be 555 women's, and 278 men's = 833 for minimum code.

The stadium spokesperson said they probably exceeded code and was quoted as saying "almost 1,000 'fixtures' ".  🙂

Ah, right. Good explanation. I agree that it looks as if they have forgotten to put the bit in there on the left. Aesthetically not pleasing.

Just looked up how many people will fit into the stadium tonight, the Allianz Arena was designed for 66,000 people, but after extensions it now has room for 70,000 for an international game.

    🍻 Fußbaall!

You're not giving it enough credit. Wikipedia says 75,024. 🙂 (that's a difference of 24 spots on the largest stadiums list!)

Surprisingly (to me), the largest stadium in the world is a Cricket stadium in India. Narendra Modi Stadium @ 132,000!

Then a bogus North Korea ego project.

Then comes "The Big House" where the Michigan Wolverines college (American) football plays. 107,601. Which, ignoring the NK stadium, was the largest until 2021, when Narendra Modi Stadium was completed.

What's interesting (again, to me) is #3-10 are all American college football stadiums.

#11 is the last over 100,000 people and it's another Cricket stadium. Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.

Then comes the first football stadium. Camp Nou in Barcelona at 99,354.

The largest NFL stadium doesn't show up until #29. MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, home of 2 New York NFL teams @ 82,500. There are 14 college stadiums larger.
