  1. Great list! Thank you for sharing it. I was hoping they would've kept a tea room, if only, to cross-market the ship to the Chinese clientele they've served to try West Coast USA cruises. Now I'm not saying the big tea room, but the little one would've sufficed. Of course, I don't see much revenue in it for NCL by doing so as tea doesn't command the same prices as alcohol.

Same here - I wish they would keep more of the Asian theme. I love to visit tea rooms when i'm on the west coast. I really like the Noodle Bar on Breakaway/Getaway. And the high end shopping area is cool - I'm never interested in the cheesy trinkets they try to sell on the ships in the US. Could they move shopping to a different level so it's not disrupting the flow of traffic on the 8th floor of the Breakaway class ships - that really annoys me.

  2. BUT ... if you really want to go to Havana, then it's the SUN - I'm not seeing many cruises to Havana in the future.

This!!!;p . Keep in mind rules for travel to Cuba may change again. My husband is not allowed to travel there so I would have to go without him. I've been on both the Sun and Getaway - like many others, pros and cons to each. I'd prefer the Getaway for 7+ days since there's more to do. Myself, I would probably do one of the shorter cruises to Cuba (with the girls).

After Midnight is awful and I'd recommend sitting near the back so you aren't embarrassed if you decide to walk out during the show.

So funny, I LOVED After Midnight! Didn't care so much for The Brat Pack - I guess I was expecting so much more out of it since those were the movies that shaped the 80s for me...

  4. Getting ready for my Bermuda cruise next Sunday and I have a few questions about some of the entertainment that is offered. Any information is welcome!

    * Wine lovers Musical - its a lunch, correct? good, bad, worth it?

    * What about the Choir Man? - what is included to warrant the $19.00 surcharge?

    * Which is better - Headliners Comedy Club or Howl at the Moon?

    Thank you in advance!

Wine Lovers, the Musical - we saw it years ago on the Breakaway and had a great time. You get to sample wines and the food was good when we went. Heard food wasn't so good on the Getaway (overcooked steak). I wish we had gone earlier in our cruise as I found I wine I would have been drinking!

The Choir of Man - We went in knowing we would get pub food and thought it was pretty good. We weren't very hungry due to a late lunch so we didn't eat much but it wasn't a reflection of the quality of the food. The show was excellent! We can't wait until it goes on tour in the US! Woo hoo!

We love Howl at the Moon, haven't had a chance to make the comedy in Headliners in a while due to conflicts with our dinners or being full when we arrive.

  5. Glad I'm a Brit...a Free promo here means Free...no grats or taxes can be added on, so it is actually free & well worthwhile. Always book a cruise when theres a promo on, only time we didnt was on a Transatlantic on X Eclipse and the drinks package on board cost more than the actual cruise.

I was curious about this as I would love to take a cruise on a Non-US ship. I lived in Europe and the pricing of everything is, well, the price - no tax (VAT already included) or tips (workers are paid a decent wage). I was just curious if they advertise the real price all along. I've seen some prices of Pullmantur that seemed reasonable. Do they take on the port charges after the fact like they do here? I wish we would go to no tipping, tax included in price in the US...

  6. What did you not like about the megaships? I ask because we're wondering if we're missing out on anything only sailing medium and smaller-sized vessels (not by choice necessarily, but because the ships with our preferred itineraries have been that size).

I loved the Sun when I cruise on her. Never thought I would like a Megaship until we went on the Breakaway. WOW!!! We are very active 50 year olds so we love the waterslides, ropes courses and the Waterfront (a wrap around deck on the 8th level with bars, restaurants outside). Entertainment is fabulous as are the speciality restaurants (some which are on smaller ships). You can go non-stop if you want to.

So it depends on what you're in the mood for. I'm a bit spoiled now by the megaships but can see going to a small ship for a short cruise (3-5 days).

  7. We are leaving for our 2nd cruise to Bermuda this weekend, we're so excited! Last time we took the ferry to Hamilton the first day - toured the city and Fort Hamilton. The second day the ferries were on strike so we took the bus to Horsehoe Bay, it was beautiful but packed! Our last day we hung around the Dockyard and did the museums close by, it was raining so we didn't go to the beach there. We spent a lot of time at the Frog and Onion Pub near the ship. We also found the sister restaurant in Hamilton, The Pickled Onion. The staff at both places were amazing! We went in September, Hamilton Nights was not happening.

For this trip, we hope to get into St George, Crystal Cave, Hamilton Nights, Thursday night beach party at the Dockyard (Club Aqua?). We are avid outdoors people so we would love to rent push bikes and bike the old railroad trail.

  8. Ok, after reading this thread, I'm considering a cruise to Bermuda...something I hadn't considered because

    1. I'm not sure if the casino is open at night while the ship is in port and

    2. I've always had the impression that Bermuda is oppressively hot

Can anyone speak to either of these?

    CM

As of 2015, they started letting the Casinos open at night. At least if docked at Royal Navy Dockyard. Bermuda is about the same latitude as North Carolina so can be hot in summer but mild winters.

  9. So we want to ride bicycles on this trail but I don't want to rent at the port because that first section of road is full of traffic and dangerous IMO. Anyone rented a bicycle close to the trail? We don't care to ferry to Hamilton. . . somewhere along the main road we can taxi or bus to would be great.

    TIA

Bump! We want to do the same thing - maybe rent a bike for a day to explore on our own. Anybody have suggestions?

  10. You will get much more to what you pay for. It means that the ratio price vs quality is not bad. I don't know what you mean with good fit. All is in Spanish, with English as second language. It's a budget Spanish cruise company which normaly pleases all those wanting a cheap friendly cruise Spanish way.

We are not bad people but note that etiquette may be different specially in terms of noise, food, all time party, late entretainment and timetables.

Ships are old, but well mainteined, and food is just awesome.

Thanks for your review! I lived in Spain for a few years so I'm comfortable with Spanish being the main language on board (my husband doesn't speak Spanish, though). And I consider myself a foodie. Looks like their website has more info regarding the food and yay, it looks like great Spanish options! I can't wait to try this cruise line! We will be in Spain next year but not sure how much time we will have so we may have to put this off for another time.

  11. We're leaving Sunday on Escape to Bermuda. Wondering how the specialty dining works? Can we book it on the ship? We honestly have no game plan for sea days and just want to go with the flow so I was hoping I could just book reservations the day of if available.

As some mentioned, it depends on the time and size of the party. We typically go with the flow but pre-book for any special occasion like birthdays or anniversary...

  12. What specialty restaurant are worth the up charge and which restaurant are great without paying the up charge? I’m thinking of the dining package but idk if it’s worth it

Cagneys, Le Bistro, Moderno. I typically love the upscale seafood choice, too. Bayamo is the one on the Escape which was not too crazy about but I think it was more because I was a little sea-sick the evening we had reservations.

Pinchos (tapas) and Food Republic have small plates so I wouldn't waste a package on them. We fell in love with these on the Escape - ended up skipping appetizer one night to get some tapas before our main course.

We only did the Italian restaurant once, I was pleasantly surprised.

  13. The kids are 20 something.

Not many others their age in Vibe, typically over 40 crowd. They'd probably have more fun mingling with people closer to their own age.

We love Vibe, though (we're in the over 40 crowd)! Keeping fingers crossed that we are lucky enough to get passes next month!
