Although they aren't they have been seen on many of our Princess cruises for years now. Just about anything goes on casual evenings.
I believe they Princess define them as - Smart Casual - evenings

I don't know the port but asking for assistance / speaking in English in Oslo is not an issue.

I don't know what the definitions of all of these dress code terms actually are, which is why I posted the photos. Three posters have told me that I would be fine in the MDR in that outfit on non-formal nights. I take it you disagree? I suppose I need a larger sample size to determine whether or not I will actually get turned away.
I was trying make a more general point. I can't really guide you on what exactly would trigger being turned away on the night .

For those of you who seem to have a stricter interpretation of the dress requirements for ingesting food, I am sorry if the photos I posted on the previous page have ruined your appetite for today.
Hoodies and sneakers are not usually thought of as smart casual

Those who have their holiday extended may also need to consider their travel insurance which may run out before the voyage does among the other practical issues they will face.
Doesn't the holiday insurance become valid from the date of the first incident until the situation is resolved?

Didn't we all recently learn what happens when a clown / beetlejuice enters the buffet late on a formal night ??

Does this mean we are only going to get one Gala Dinner Menu night per 7 days ? 😒

Maybe they should have a moaning old gits club, or maybe not; it wouldn't be big enough.😉
They do - it's called Bingo 😁

"For more formal settings, men should bring a suit and a nice pair of shoes (or, at the very least, a shirt, tie and slacks), while women may want to bring an evening dress or a skirt with a good blouse."
So you can see that Princess does recognize that not everyone wants to participate in "dressing up". It doesn't say shorts, jeans or flop flops but just decent casual clothing that most would classify as casual. My DH interprets that as Dockers & a dress/Polo/guayabera shirt. I wear my black slacks with a dressy top.
So you intepret a dress code that specifies wearing a " tie at the very least " as a request to not wear a tie ? 🤔

You're welcome, but your patronising response misses the point of my post which is that a country known for its patriotism did not have a sailaway event akin to the Great British one on P&O. I was a little surprised.
You have missed out the part of your post stating how delighted you were and boasting about how much you would have avoided it , had it - actually happened -

Just come back from the Carnival Legend cruising Alaska. Given the patriotism of most Americans, I was surprised (and delighted) there was no Great American Sailaway party. It's something I would have avoided as flag waving jingoism in any form just does not do it for me.
Thank you so much for informing us about something that did not happen and was not planned to happen - and that you would not have been involved anyway , if it had happened

Lots of people enjoy dog fighting, but that doesn't mean its acceptable.
That is exactly the sort of false and egregious attempt at moral equivalence that gives online forums a bad name

I'm hoping due to us being on a bigger ship (Ventura) that we may be ok and get either the early sitting or freedom. I totally realise that the more expensive select price would've allowed us the flexibility and had myself or my husband being the one who booked, this is the option we would've gone with as we research our holidays before we book. My mum-in-law did what she thought was good and jumped in and booked without researching first in the trust that the travel agent in our high street would look after her. She did this after having booked a cruise with a travel agent for her an a friend 3 years ago and getting looked after very well. The travel agent have been absolutely dire and have left us so frustrated that I wrote a complaint on due to the lack of service my mum-in-law was given. The only information they have given is the booking reference number and print off of our E ticket and luggage label - this was only given to us 2 weeks ago, not for want of trying to get other information. They definitely didn't explain any dining options with my mum-in-law which I know as she seemed shocked when I explained the different options which I had found out after reading this forum and the P&O site. She asked them to make sure that we were situated close by as she is a single traveller with mobility issues/meds to take etc and instead of explaining at the time that to guarantee this, she needed tobook a select price, they just said that we had to wait until the cabins were allocated to find out but that 'we should be fairly close'. As it turns out, we are on a balcony on port, her on starboard but not to far away but I guess this is only pure chance.
We totally understand that those people who've paid extra should get the first choice - had we known at time of booking, we too would've paid the extra. I also know that we are able to dine in the buffet but that is not how we would choose to eat our main meal if we had the choice. With regards to the suggestion from someone that we are able to eat late like families in some other countries do regularly - again, it's not how we would choose if we had the choice but obviously if its the only choice then, we will cope with it.
We will go onboard with an open mind and good manners and hope that all works out well for us.
This is why I always book holidays after extensive research normally and not through travel agents but, it's a one off to appease my mum-in-law 🙂
Relax - Chill out - With the £ that you have saved on this fare you can probably book a few speciality restaurants at a time of yiur choosing - Jobs a good un , Everyones a winner 😎

People book Select fares for different reasons, but I don't think that free shuttles would be one of them - can't remember when we last had a free shuttle bus
It is advertised as one of the main Select benefits by P and O. New passengers would not have your knowledge.

People are getting totally confused with shuttle buses. Some are provided by P&O from ship side/terminal and are free if Select some ports provide free shuttle buses either to port gates or to city centre for H&S safety reasons and are free Civitavecchia and some they are not provided by P&O or port authorities because they deem to not need shuttles i.e. Gibraltar. Local taxi firms have provided a service to take those into town who dont want to or cannot walk which of course they charge. It has never been that P&O provide free shuttle buses at every port they visit and that they are free when booking Select and only when shuttle bus is actually provided and organised by P&O.
Ground control to Major Tom - No confusion here! ☺
If P and O are not providing any of the Shuttle buses on a certain cruise , then this is not a benefit, as I said.

But they state in their brochure that they are only free for Select fares if the shuttle bus is provided by P&O and if not by a private company or taxi then there is a charge.
But there will always be a variety of providers?
Or do you mean transport that will only get you outside the port gates?

Some ports you do not need shuttle buses, some ar provided by port authority either free or at cost whatever fare you have booked and P&O provide others and if you have booked Select then they are free.
P and O know what the situation is before the cruise and even on cruises where they are not providing any buses still "sell" this as a benefit to a Select fare.

I find it curious how people that dont enjoy and dont partake in something often seem to want to prevent other people that do partake and do enjoy it from doing so!
