  1. Once you pick your excursion, it blocks out any other excursions available for that port and time slot.

Not so! I have 12 shorex showing to choose from, 4 of them are ones I have chosen. One of my chosen is on St Thomas, 5 of the other choices I am given are also St Thomas, the remaining 3 are San Juan.

  2. I have been monitoring the excursions for the Breakaway, 10/16/2018. For the past couple of weeks the Explore and Plan section has shown 64 excursions of which I have chosen 4 out of 5 ports we'll visit, not liking anything for San Juan yet. Day before yesterday I went on and it showed 12 excursions for the cruise, I assumed it was some sort of glitch. When I went on today it still shows 12 excursions total to chose. Is this normal? I can understand removing excursions when they fill up but this is 52 shorex removed between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. Doesn't seem logical!

  3. Thank you for the quick response njhorseman. I too am in NJ and will be driving myself to the pier when the time comes. I wanted to know because I didn't want to turn onto the wrong rooftop parking area. I know you said it's impossible to get lost, but then you don't know me! LOL

  4. Does any one know if The Breakaway has one pier in Manhattan it always uses or could it be pier 88 or 90 depending on the whim of the persons in charge. Probably a stupid question but that's what you get from a newbie. :D

  5. Also remember they have a 20% service charge you pay on the beverage package value. So on a 10 day cruise you could be paying over $350 for your "free drinks"... not always worth it if you're in port a lot or not bigger drinkers. Whatever you do - have a great cruise!

I don't know your location but as far as sailing out of NYC on an 11 day cruise with a Free UBP, my total of service charge is 212.60, or 19.30 a day. Quite a bargain if you consider the ala carte prices of drinks on board. Not sure how you arrived at $350.

  6. Jonathon, thank you for getting back to me. I am traveling alone so I can forego dropping off family and luggage and jump right to finding a porter once I get downstairs. I will turn over my roll-a-bout and garment bag and liberally grease the palm of said porter. I am glad to see you said to get there early, (10/10:30), because that is the exact time I plan to arrive. I thank you again and according to your banner I also will wish you a great cruise on Queen Mary 2.

  7. I will be driving myself to the NYC cruise terminal and parking on the roof of the pier for my Oct cruise on the Breakaway. I am quite familiar with NYC traffic and routes through the city so I'm confident on getting there. My question is having cruised only once, (2007), once I get there, what do I do? Obviously I'll find my way down stairs and be amid a couple of thousand others all trying to get up into the ship. I have a balcony on deck 12, so is there a special line, 'all 12's move to the right!' Just how is embarkation handled. For that matter how is disembarkation handled, where's your luggage, are there porters, is there a carousel? In 2007 as I recall everything was in this big open space and you had to go through it all to find your own stuff. I know this probably is a ridiculous problem to have for all the seasoned travelers on this forum but to a newbie it can be a little daunting. I understand realistically everything will go as it should and I'll be on the top deck with drink in hand toasting The Big Apple as the ship pulls out into the Hudson. At the same time in the back of my mind, amid all the festivities, I'll look down and see my large roll-a-bout sitting by it self on the edge of the pier, while I have one t shirt and one change of underwear in my carry on. Why? Because I didn't do some thing right between parking and sailing.

  8. I will be cruising the Breakaway out of NYC in Oct. and I am going solo but not in the solo area so I have no access to the solo lounge. While I am not anti social I don't really want to be pushed to a table with a bunch of strangers either. There are plenty of restaurant options on board the Breakaway but I wonder will I have a problem getting seating for one? Any insight would be appreciated.

  9. Does any know or is it a well kept secret what the payout percentage is for the NCL casinos? In Vegas there are so many different places they have to have fairly high payouts just to be competitive, but on a ship you're more of a captive audience. I'm not a big gambler but if payout ratio is real low I won't even bother.

  10. I am sailing in Oct out of NYC on the Breakaway and can't figure out how to order a bar set up for the cabin. I know it can be done but the 'gifts and more' doesn't show it and no other link seems to lead that way. I already have the UBP but I would like to have a balcony nightcap once in a while. Companion question: set ups are usually 1L, if you don't finish can you take the remainder off the ship?
