Crime has not taken over close to port. At all. There's been a very few isolated incidents in the last couple months - in each case, the perps were caught within hours or a day or two and charged.

I wouldn't walk around Castries as it's not a pretty or quaint place to stroll through - I don't even go there unless I have to for some government reason, as that's where most of the offices are. There's very little to see, etc.  The out lying areas are much nicer and offer more of what the island is all about

Vigie Beach and Boardwalk are part of Castries - perfectly safe to explore and enjoy - great local food and drinks chairs, shade, swimming, restrooms, etc.

There's a lot more to the island than the few highlights seen in Cosol's tour - perhaps consider some if the other areas.

    Enjoy your visit.

Thank you for your clarification. Yes, I did mention the limited port sites and that most benefits to see are on a tour of the island. I saw it...it was lovely...so I will spend time on ship this time.

2 women from ship robbed in Serenity Park, 4 blocks from port, last month. And 4 days before that, locals were robbed at gun point.

  3. We have done Western once (too humid), eastern 4 times (a bit drier heat, but still too much for me), and Southern, ABC islands, twice (Love! its just the right amount of breeze with the warmer temperature, making it seem cooler). If you prefer leaving rom American port rather than San Juan, do this one out of Miami or Ft Lauderdale that RCCL does as a 10 or 11 day on a Radiance class ship. Southern is good any time of year, with tempuratures staying around 83 degrees, but feel cooler because of breeze.

  4. We did Cosol Tours 8 yers ago because I did my research and found there not to be much in port. Now I read about how crime has took over close to port, so this time we may just stay on the ship. If you take a tour, you pretty much get to see everthing there is there.

  5. Oh contraire.....my husband has a motorized wheelchair and we have been on Explorer OTS-Seattle, Oasis OTS-Port Canaveral, Bliss-Vancouver.  ALL had handicap checkin with us being on the ship within 10 minutes (before his device was purchased, we got same handicap treatment with my PTSD, on RC, HA, Princess). ALL had a bar/lounge that handicap went for muster, with lots of room and no "huddling". EVERYONE was pleasant and courteous with their mobile devices.

  6. We are in accessible cabin and received an email for upgrade bidding on each of our 2 cruises coming up. I don't see how they can offer us a better cabin for disabled, ...or can they? I don't want to take that chance. Why can't they have their computer programmer program it accordingly and not send an offer? Anyone else have thoughts on this?

  7. I have a mother-in-law that has 18 pills a day and she gets her pharmacist to put in "blister pacs". This is because it helps her remember what to take at which time. On the back of the "pack" it has her info and all the prescription names. This is how she takes her meds regularly and is how she travels with no problem. (Air, Sea, Border, etc)

  8. Don't let some experiences of cruising discourage you. I have PTSD from a terrible vehicle accident. I get emotionally drained from 1 week prep of going and the day of travel to the port. But, when I reach the checkin, I ask for disabled line (shorter and get on ship faster without crowd),and once I step on the ship...I am at peace. I go straight to front desk and ask to be in the handicap muster area (less crowded). Sometimes, I have breakfast in the main dining rather than the buffet. On Royal Caribbean, they have a small buffet as well as your sit-down service (I like ordering fresh eggs). I find small areas on deck for relaxing that are not near the bustle of pool ppl and activities. I like Royal Caribbean coffee shop to ppl watch. There are small lounges to relax that aren't as popular. Whatever ship you choose, take the time to explore and you will find your areas of peace.

  9. PPL, I'll repeat how I found how to make last post first, Nothing to do with a blue dot.......(from this page you are on now)..Top Right, click on BOARDS (beside log out). I click on ROYAL CARIBBEAN 'MEET N MINGLE ROLL CALL. I click on my ship for roll call sailings "FREEDOM OF THE SEAS'. It then shows SORT BY on top right of this section. It's small lettering. (On left of this section is the page #'s and Next). When you change the order, then any sail date of that ship will be done so.

  10. The only blue dot is the huge one next to "Freedom of the Seas" under "royal Caribbean Roll Calls". I hover over it and it says "mark forum as read". I click on it and it disappears. I then go to the roll call I am associated with ( 3/2/19 Return of the King part 1, ALSO part 2 ) and there is no dot and the date still starts as "first post".

So, again....how do I get it to be "last post put first"??

  11. There are agents that have an extensive list of "blocked" bookings that they secure a number of cabins @ the introductory price, before pricing does a gradual increase. This is usually done 2 yrs in advance of cruise date and you can get in on this price up until they have sold out. Could be 1 1/2 yrs - 6 months before cruise date. (this is where "can get cheaper from agent" comes into play)

Also, I use an agent that gives 100-800 OBC and 1 specialty dining for 2. So, I will get this from him, and also the perks that the cruiseline may be promoting at that time. (OBC, BOGO, 2nd guest % off, gratuities included...etc.)

  12. Our experience:

We booked 2 years ago on Oasis Of The Seas for this year. Husband has hip replacement that takes too long to recover. We rented a scooter 1 month before cruise. It was waiting outside our cabin. We had a regular balcony on 11th floor. Bed close to balcony, couch next to closet. I took out the side table and put in closet (made a good shoe rack). Pushed the couch close to bed. DH drove forward, park beside couch, and I had walking room to get into closet. He then had to back out of cabin. The door was big enough to have him not scrape corners.CONCLUSION: regular cabins on Royal Caribbean can accommodate a scooter, as long as one is mobile enough to get into bathroom.
