  1. I have this problem as well, While on a 15 day cruise to Hawaii, I was so swollen I could hardly walk. So I researched this issue. It has nothing to do with consuming too much salt or humidity, It is a form of seasickness... caused by the motion of the ship....

A lot of people's feet swell because the ship moves...when the ship moves blood "leaves" your feet and goes mostly to your brain and your equilibrium area. People who get seasickness, suffer mostly because there is an imbalance of blood and pressure within their equilibrium area. What does this have to do with feet swelling? Well as blood rushes to your head and fuels your heart and equilibrium, your brain and heart then realizes a shortage of blood bellow your abdomen. When it senses and imbalance it may then send a surge of blood to your feet which in turn makes your feet swell and possibly irritable. This may go on for several days until your brain reaches a constant ration of blood through out your body. I noticed much improvement after a few days.

    Hope this helps!

    This kinda makes sense.

I have never had swollen feet on a cruise (nor on a plane). Then, after my car accident, I told my Dr. that the back of my head feels swollen and in the morning I wake up with extense ringing in my ears and feeling like my blood circulation to my head is having some sort of blockage. This has been going on for 5 yrs. When I started having the courage to cruise again, 4 yrs after accident. I now have EXTREME swelling in only my feet. I can't wear most of the shoes I bring, and it gets hard to have the bend in ankle to walk properly.

Since the blood circulation to my head is not good, then on a cruise (combined with higher elevation, as I live where its "sea level") would be constantly trying to compensate to my feet.

  2. Same is true with us for the September 11 sailing. What a nice way to learn which sailings are affected huh?

This is what I found today. I have heard of negotiation going on for a secure for next year also...

  3.

That is something totally different. Yes, you can charter ships-at-sea for conventions or special groups. Our particular Sept. cruise is in question, and may be because of negotiations are in process for it being used as a "floating hotel". Meaning, it would be docked in San Francisco for convention "hotel rooms". This has been done in the past for 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

    SURPRISE! I just found this...

  4. It's likely they're not saying because they haven't finalized the new plan for the missing time / dates. My opinion is once they have the new plan and new itineraries that will likely include a charter / floating hotel in the middle, they'll come back with an announcement and new info. I would keep any booking if you're going to move, as the forced change may / could come with extra perks.

    Sorry for the frustration.

    Happy sailing,

    Jenna

YES. Either an IT Tech convention out of San Fransisco wanting to use it as a "floating hotel", OR a fortune 500 Club took rest of rooms. The ship still had lots of rooms left on April 4th when my brother booked and on April 16th when I checked for price drops. Then while we were away From May3-16 on our Bermuda cruise, my agent noticed a big price drop and when he tried to call celebrity, they said no info could be processed at that time. I checked for price drop the day after I got home and it wasn't shown on celebrity (said suite available, but then couldn't book it), but when I went to my agents website and looked up price through their engine, it did show a $300 price drop on my category. Then POOF, gone by next day. That's when I started doing my special internet searches and found a couple reason's why this may be happening.

  5. I just camr from a RCCL Bermuda cruise and booked a 'next cruise' onboard for 2017 to get the 50% off 2nd passenger and 150 OBC. I said I didn't want to use the current agent, so they got me to sign a waiver to have the booking through RCCL. I then went home contacted my agent, (which I googled for a previous sail date and ship, 2016 on Celebrity, got many different online agents and picked one.) That agent transferred the booking from RCCL and gave me an extra 300 OBC and a 'specialty dining'. I look for an agency with long history and pays their agent a good commission. That way, they can afford to pass savings onto me. This one I found is so good, I'm keepin' him for all future cruises AND I've directed my brother and some friends to him.

  6. Because it is policy for cruiselines to have you pay gratuities upfront when you choose "MY TIME/ANY TIME/ CHOICE DINING, it will not be taken off. But, you can ask your agent to give you extra OBC in lue of their "pre-paid gratuities" offer.

I negotiate whenever possible. Our Hawaii cruise, I got 150 OBC, military discount. Then when transferred to agent, I got another 50 OBC from them, 250 OBC for military, and a price reduction "sale" & pre-paid gratuities "offer from cruiseline that the agent noticed before our final payment date.

  7. Our cruise has disappeared AGAIN!!

As I've said, there seems to be a "IT teck" conference that may be trying to book the ship as a floating hotel in San Francisco. Until Celebrity gets the whole thing sorted and gets final confirmation, they will put certain sailings "on hold". But, there is also word of a fortune 500 club taking up all cabins for a particular sailing (happen to be mine). And again, if this is true, the sailing would be put on hold until final confirmation is made for a special group.

I've seen sailings being cancelled due to ship being used as a floating hotel for the Vancouver Olympics. And, I've been involved with sales of sailing being put on hold due to a special group trying to confirm a sailing (Me doing a Bachelor Show contestant group cruise)

So, getting definitive answers at this point is slim. We will have to wait it out and see.

  8. We are booked on the coastal Sept 11/16. There is talk about the ship being chartered for a "tech" conference in San Francisco OR a Fortune 500 Club booked up rest of rooms which would make the ship now full. My TA is looking into it extensively. He noticed a drastic price reduction just before it being "lost" and non-bookable. He is trying to get the reduction for me and finding out if we will be cancelled or just have a lot of wealthy ppl sailing with us.

I hope its the latter, as we are looking forward to this cruise.

  9. I have a hurricane question. I have sailed on the Atlantic during hurricane season and have been on cruises just skirting around them as well as tropical storms. There are many places to divert a cruiseship during the season and I think a reason for some of the Canada ports now included in cruises. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this happening during Pacific storms from cruises leaving from Vancouver. Thank you. (I did post a question in the hurricane section and haven't had any replies)

We did a Vancouver return to Hawaii inOct 2014. Smooth sailing until we head back to Vancouver and had to go off course from a storm. nothing too choppy. It was a good cruise there and back.

  10. I have to admit, I haven't read every post in the 247 pages, (but have read dozens and dozens) and hoping to get a little help. We will arrive on Tuesday May 12, 2015, staying at Pan Pacific, and embarking the Coral Princess on Wednesday, May 13, 2015.

We are reading here and there about the underground ar the Fairmont Hotel across the street from Canada Place if my memory serves me correct. If we are not staying at that hotel, I'm assuming that you can access the underground level in places other than the hotel?

We are hoping to find dinner options (nothing heavy as we will likely be overeating on the cruise, lol) and walking around time at this underground area.

Any tips/suggestions/comments are welcome - unless you're gonna flame me. :D

    TIA

If you are staying @ Canada Place(Pan Pacific), then parking there is also an option. It is run by an independent company (Vinci) and there is a link on this link that will take you to reservations. They do have a discounted price for cruisers. On the Vinci site, follow their links to take you to reservation, input your date, choose "cruise parking". and it will show you pricing of $186.21. It will tell you to pick up discount coupon when arriving at parking and it will be around $25 off this pricing.

  11. oh, contraire...I am a 25 year professional in the housekeeping industry (including management) and my husband is a 32 year professional in the restaurant industry (including chef). So please don't judge who you don't know. We intentionally give more than required amount to those that show their utmost best in their profession. If it was adequately their best, they at least get required amount. There was only 2 ppl (on two different sailings) that we were being ignored, forgotten and/or given less respect than others at our table.

With that being said...we will continue to tip with abundance when appreciation is deserving to be noticed. This includes smiles and hugs from us.

FYI: do you really know how each company divides their tipping money. At least I know who and how much is given when I personally hand it over.

  12. Gratuities are added on every drink bill, so I don't add something on the "tip" line. So, to have gratuities on the prepaid drink package would be understandable...no matter what percentage. (glad we don't drink)

As for the service gratuities, we go to the front desk when boarding and ask for it to not be added on each day , (they show it as added, then subtracted each day) as we pay our gratuities at our discretion on the last day of the cruise. This doesn't mean we "cheap out", just that we give what is fair for each service person we had...whether it be more or less of the standard amount. We have done this on Royal Caribbean & Princess. Holland America wouldn't let us do it this way. We had to go to front desk on last day of cruise and have it all reversed and then they gave us tip envelopes.

  13. ^ The two times we have stayed at the Country Inns and sailed out of Bayonne, we got to the pier the same way: we had the front desk call a car service for us. They know who to call, the driver was there early (I know!), and the cost was a reasonable $55.00 plus tip. Please - you do not want to take the shuttle to the airport with all your luggage in tow... it's just an extra step and so much hassle.

I'll actually refer you to the mini-review I wrote, in which I mention the car service. Here is the link:

    Have fun!!

    .

THANKS LangleyCruisers: your link about comment on port transportation has made up my mind. I will make a reservation through Independent Driver (thanks to 138east recommendation) for hotel to port, and make a reservation with RCCL for port to airport (this makes for easier transistion to connect to flight time).

  14. Don't have regrets about the Hampton Inn. It would take you at least an hour to get just to downtown Manhattan and another half hour to get to midtown.

By staying at Newark Airport you have the option of doing a big circle - train to midtown, subway downtown, and PATH back to Newark Penn Station and train back to the airport.

But, the Hapton Inn websites says they have a free shuttle to the ferry. Would that have not been more convenient and less time?

  15. Hey there neighbor!

We will be staying at Country Inn for a couple days before our May 6th cruise. How did you get to the Bayonne port from this hotel?

With some research, I found my options to be:

    1. free shuttle from airport to hotel-free shuttle to airport and take RCCL prepaid shuttle from airport to cruiseship & from cruiseship to airport.

    2. free shuttle from airport to hotel-prepaid shuttle from hotel to criuseship & from cruiseship to hotel- free shuttle from hotel to airport.

    3. free shuttle from airport to hotel-pay hotel for shuttle to cruiseport-pay RCCL for shuttle to airport.

Is this all correct? Did you find a more simpler and/or cheaper way?
