  1. Thanks everyone. My bad.  I think I did see that 375ml is eventually what we used to call a 5th.  So to me it’s a pretty big bottle.  Maybe that’s why it slipped my mind.  I can not drink a 5th a 7 days (Alaska) or 15 days (Hawaii).  I’ll just buy a drink when I want hard liquor.  Thanks again.

There is a section in the On-board purchases of the Cruise Personalizer that will allow a passenger to purchase smaller bottles (not minis) for their cabin in advance of the cruise. It is a bit more spendy than the land price. This is different from the duty free purchases.

TracieABD can you tell me where specifically, or the name of the section?  I just checked and have checked in the past.  I cannot find any mention of hard liquor other that the beverage packages.  We are booked on a Alaska cruise in May and a Hawaii cruise in October next year, there is no mention.  I wonder if it’s based on the cruise and ports?

  3. The Ruby and Crown are essentially identical ships.  They built between 2006 and 2008 and are all considered Crown Class.  I assume you are talking about the Caribe Deck, where there are two S3 Penthouse and two S6 Vista Suites.  The two cabins are the same size but the Penthouse appear to have a better layout with a side door.  They are also mid-aft.  The big difference is the balcony, while officially the same size, the Penthouse is unobstructed, while the Vista has a large structural column centered on the sleeping area’s patio door.  See attached.

On Ruby now for the third week of a B2B2B and believe it or not, you need a new coffee (electronic) card each week.  There is no carry over as there has previously been with B2B where for coffee card purposes B2B was considered one cruise.  This is a real takeway!  The price of the "card" is still around $37, even for one week, and for us as elites, we needed to trade in three bar setups for coffee coverage for the three one week consecutive cruises on the same ship.

I know there have been loads of threads on the new coffee card system, but this takeaway regarding B2B is the most unacceptable feature of the change.  I hope that a lot of people will contact Princess to tell them how unfair this change is.

There is no such thing as a a coffee card anymore.  You purchase a Coffee Package on a cruise by cruise basis.  You agreed to that when you signed your Passenger Contract.  Did you read it?  How can it be unfair when it was clearly stated in writing?

can you buy for your cabin and if so how. I see it listed but it does not allow me to add it to a shopping cart to purchase.

I just checked Princess’s Alcohol policy.

    It states:

Alcoholic beverages that are purchased duty free from the ship's gift shop, or at ports of call, will be collected for safekeeping and delivered to the guest's stateroom on the last day of the cruise.  A member of the ship's staff will be at the gangway to assist guests with the storage of their shoreside alcoholic purchases while our Boutiques staff will assist guests with shipboard alcoholic purchases.”

Go to the Princess FAQ page and scroll down to Alcohol Policy.

I assume you are talking about hard liquor not wine.  Most of the responses here seem to be about wine.  I have never seen hard liquor in the cruise personalizes. I have never tried to buy hard liquor on board but my suspicion is that it will only be the 50ml mini bottle (airline size).  That’s is what they give to Suite and Elite Passengers.  You may not bring hard liquors onto the ship, only wine.

  7. It depends on how you take it.  The standard cabin room service menu is very limited, a simple breakfast, sandwiches, a couple hot items, and pizza (at an additional price).  Suite passengers can order anything off the MDR’s daily menu.  They can also get free afternoon tea service in the room, and/or afternoon canopy’s.

The last morning, Sabatini’s and CC breakfast will be closed. Since you will be in a suite, you can hang the card out the night before and have a full breakfast delivered. We always do this and are out sitting on the balcony when we arrive back into port.

We were just on the Ruby Princess in October in a Club Class Mini-suite.  the Club Class portion of the dining room was open for breakfast on embarkation day, we planned a late departure at 0900 so had time for a good breakfast before hand and a final thank to our MDR CC wait staff.  They were great.

Yes there is a concierge and lounge on the Royal/Regal/Majestic

Keith, the Royal / Regal / Majestic are “Royal Class” ships as the previous commentor said.  He was right.  Currently those are the only Concierge Lounge ships in the fleet.

  10. During drydock the Ruby had a complete cleaning and refresh, new carpets and flooring.  Our Mini-suite had a new floor in the bathroom.  The ice cream shop on deck 15 is now branded ‘Coffee and Cones’ and sells New Ground Coffee.  Astroturfs on deck have been replaced.  The Trident Grill  burger place is now branded ‘The Salty Dog Grill’  and you can buy up items from the Salty Dog Gastro Pub after 1130 AM.  Staterooms have new wall mounted flat screen TVs (40”?).  The Ocean Medallion equipment has been installed but it is not yet operational.  Every door has an iPad sized screen and there are larger flat screen all over the place, now just showing ads, but have the Ocean Medallion reader.

  11. You keep indicating that it's free when in fact you've paid dearly for those coffee's.

Is the food they serve you in the DR & buffet free? Are the towels free? What about the lotion & soap?

When they begin to charge individually for everything on the ship and give you 2 coffee cards without any charge then I'll consider it free.

Please read the quoted post I was responding to. The commenter was discussing Elite passengers that can opt to take a coffee card in lieu of a free liquor bar set up. They don’t pay extra of it, it’s a perk of being an elite passenger. That said, the idea is the same. You claim you paid dearly for the cards, how so? The question is: can you drink $31 (per passenger) worth of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and specialty coffees during a cruise. The ‘15’ is the upper limit of speciality coffees that you may receive. The new coffee package nor the old coffee cards never guaranteed that you would get 15 speciality coffees.

If you are not happy with it, try to sue Princess or try another cruise line.

  12. To Caribill: no, I didnt bother since I knew we would go over our fifteen anyway on this 10 day voyage. I am sure it would have been an easy correction but next time I will be sure to alert the waiter to charge it to our "card". Still prefer the old system though.

Another negative though is that Elite (just turned after this voyage) who are non drinkers and want to change out the minibar for two coffee cards will lose out since cards expire at the end of the voyage and it's pretty tough to drink 30 coffees in seven days!

Two people can’t drink $62.00 worth of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and speciality drinks in 7 days? That’s what the coffee card is worth. And it’s free to an Elite. It’s a free perk. Get over it.

  13. It's the same.

You are looking at a diagram, not a construction floor plan. Understand the boxes shown on these plans only ‘suggest’ cabin sizes. All cabins include space for chases. These are spaces where plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems run. It is most likely that these cabins chases are slightly smaller than the adjacent cabins.

  14. You have been watching to much TV people counterfeiting the coffee cards. Give me a break.

I continue to ask about your Passenger Contract. A Coffee Card was purchased from Princess Cruise Lines during or as part of a Cruise. Therefore they were purchased under the auspices of the contract you entered into with Princess. What does that contract say about cruise purchases?

I do believe that Princess screwed up when the Coffee Card did not state that the cards were subject to additional terms and conditions. But Princess has a get out of jail free card with the contract you agreed to when you purchased the cruise. It’s not something they want you to know, but it’s there.

  15. Here is a picture of the card we got last year on the Coral. They didn't write a date or voyage on the back of it. We are on the CB in two weeks, and going to take it along and hopefully use the punches for brewed coffee as before, when taking a card from one trip to another. We don't much drink specialy coffee's. I don't have a passenger contract from that far back.

  16. If you don’t like hotel dryers then you won’t like the ones on most of the ships. Bring your own!

But don’t leave it plugged in and don’t test the GFI on the cord. Don’t try to plug it into the ‘razor’ outlet in the bathroom. It draws too much current.

  17. There are a couple ways to do it. If it's 15 punches for 35.00 then the the value is about 2.33 per punch left, so 23.30

That would follow California gift card rules. (In CA, which btw, is where Princess is HQed, gift cards can't expire).

I supposed if they wanted to used the amount paid, rather than the value of the punches, you'd take the average value of the drinks. So let's say it's 2.50 per drink. The person with 10 punches has used 5*2.50 = 12.5. 35-12.5= 22.5

Either way would be fine with me.

Since we bought 15, and are only getting part of that, Princess has stolen our money.

At this point, we're not sailing Princess for about 6 months after they expire, and by then I'm sure either there will be a class action suit, or someone will have taken it to a consumer advocate.

Princess may have it’s headquarters in California, but the ship is no registered in America and sails under a different flag. Also once outside the USA limits, Maritime Laws apply. You could not operate a duty free shop if ruled by California law.

How can you suit when the agreement you signed allows Princess to change the rules at any time? Read your Contract of Passage and the Terms and Conditions of your coffee agreement.

  18. It can be a big deal if the cruiser goes to Long Beach late in the day.

True, but that’s the cruiser’s mistake. Princess clearly provides information about the Port of Embarkation and Debarkation in the Booking Summary. Read the information provided to you. If your TA did not provide the information then you have a problem.

  19. Another question -

Next year we are booked on a back-to-back that is only sold as two separate cruises. If we buy the cards for the first cruise, will the unused punches expire at the end of that segment, or carry on to the next segment? The first segment is only 6 days and the second is 14. We would not be able to use all the punches during the first segment.

    Thanks

    Don

The Terms and Conditions of the Coffee Package states: “The package includes the pre-purchase of a specified number of specialty coffees (numbers vary by itinerary) DURING THE VOYAGE OF PURCHASE, as well as complimentary brewed coffee and hot chocolate.” It goes on to state, “The coffee package is valid only on the voyage for which it is purchased. If the maximum number of coffees pre-purchased are not used during the voyage, the remaining value will NOT be credited or refunded and is NOT transferable for any purpose.”

If the cruises are only sold separately than you CANNOT use the 1st card. But before you decide, remember that specialty coffee can be shared, and the coffee package only costs $31 plus gratuities. Can you drink more than $31 worth of coffee etc in 6 days?

  20. We have purchased coffee packages for our up coming 14 night cruise (Ocean Medallion boat). Supposing I drank all 15 specialty coffees in 12 days, does anyone know if I could still get free brewed coffee for the last 2 days or would my account be voided? Thanks for any help.

The Terms and Conditions of the Coffee Package states: “The package includes the pre-purchase of a specified number of specialty coffees (numbers vary by itinerary) during the voyage of purchase, AS WELL AS complimentary brewed coffee and hot chocolate.” ‘AS WELL AS’ means ‘in addition to’, so you can continue to purchase brewed coffee.

  21. Ruby's is in or going in to Dry Dock this month..... do any of you know what's going to be done?

We are on Ruby Nov10-17. I have noticed on the deck plan that there is a restaurant called Share and no Sabatini's, which is hard to believe. What is Share? So fill me in!

Think I read somewhere that Ruby is leaving the US, Alaska & Caribbean to go Down Under....is this true?

We will be on the 1st cruise after Victoria (BC) drydock, Vancouver to LA 5-day departing 13 October. We’ll report any major changes. We have heard there might so rebranding.

Sabatini’s was replaced with Share during the Dec 2015 drydock. Share is Princess’s latest effort to bring celebrity chefs to specialty dining. Share is Curtis Stone’s venue. https://www.princess.com/ships-and-experience/food-and-dining/curtis-stone/

The Ruby will be assigned to Australia sailing for Princess from October 2019 to April 2020 when it will return to the NA West Coast.
