  1. Yes' date=' I actually read the post in some detail, and even commented based on OP's experience with DCL and mine.

I clearly understand that they are a family of 6, but only 3 are entitled to the suite perks. My point was that if the husband shows up as one of the 3 (or if they just show up as 2 and the boys can eat elsewhere, sleep late, or whatever), they are not likely to question the name on the card that says "suite" or even look at more than one card. If they want to do dinner as a family, they can go to ATD or the buffet together.

What I didn't catch was that they split the group so that only 3 are booked in the suite, not 4. Therefore, my post should have read "show up as a family of 3" rather than 4.

Bottom line--Princess likely doesn't care which family members enjoy the suite perks as long as the number of people enjoying them does not exceed the number who paid for them. If 3 people carrying suite cards for cabin BXZY, Princess personnel are not likely to look at the names. They check off the cabin number for that day. Done. The only problem would come up if the boys showed up later when 2 or 3 people had already been there.

My suggestion, given that the family suite is not available--go to passenger services and see if they will re-issue husband's card indicating where he is actually sleeping (in the suite). That will allow husband and wife to legitimately do everything they wish together and the boys can be off on their own.[/quote']

I’d honestly call Princess and when the 1st representative doesn’t answer your question ask to speak with a customer service supervisor in the head office. Explain your situation and ask all your questions. That’s the best way. Don’t wait until you get onboard.

The ship is drydocked from September 30 to October 12th. Our cruise is the 1st one after it leaves drydock, October 13 to 18. The ship will be ‘ready’. Your cruise is 22 days after the ship leaves drydock.

  3. The Port of Victoria offered a Shuttle from the dock to ‘downtown’. It’s US$13 or CAN$15, you buy on the bus. If you just want to go ‘downtown’ you can also take BC Transit, CAN$2.50 per trip or CAN$5.00 all day pass (You must have exact change). Some people walk to ‘downtown’ and take transit back. The number 2 bus stops. At Montreal and Dallas at the southern end of the Ogden Point Cruise Terminal. It does wander through the neighborhood but will reach in the inner harbor and downtown. https://bctransit.com/victoria/schedules-and-maps/route-overview?route=2

  4. This contradicts the Passage Contract which only states you must notify Fleet Medical in advance if you are bring a mobility device or service dog onboard:

    8. YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO INFORM CARRIER OF SPECIAL NEEDS.

Due to the risks inherent in travel by sea, as described in Section 3 of this Passage Contract, if You have any special medical, physical or other requirements, You, Your travel agent, or any person booking on Your behalf is requested to inform Carrier in writing at the time of booking of any special need or other condition for which You or any other person in Your care may require medical attention or accommodation during the Cruise, or for which the use of a wheelchair or service animal is contemplated or necessary. If any such special need or condition arises after You have booked the Cruise, You are requested to report it in writing to Carrier as soon as You become aware of it. Guests acknowledge and understand that certain international, foreign or local safety requirements, standards, and/or applicable regulations involving design, construction or operation of the vessel, docks, gangways, anchorages or other facilities on or off the vessel may restrict access to facilities or activities for persons with mobility, communication or other impairments or special needs. Guests requiring the use of a wheelchair must provide their own as Carrier's wheelchairs carried on board the vessel are for emergency medical use only. You acknowledge and agree Carrier may disembark or refuse to embark You or anyone under Your care as set forth in Section 4 above. In limited situations where You would be unable to satisfy certain specified safety and other criteria, even when provided with appropriate auxiliary aids and services, we reserve the right to refuse permission to participate in all or part of the Cruise.

I suppose they could cite the very last sentence of that section in refusing to allow someone with a portable oxygen concentrator to "participate...in the cruise". But that still is worded as a case-by-case decision of the Captain, not a rule that must be followed pre-boarding.

A portable oxygen concentrator (POC) is a mobility device. People who use them typically have lung disease which reduces there ability to breath. Without a POC the person can often not exercise or walk any great distance. Princess wants to know because they may have to assist the passenger in the case of an emergency.

They will not refuse you to cruise, they just need to know who you are and what your limitations are.

  5. While I'm sure princess wishes you good health, I think you probably only need notify them

if you are planning on embarking a cruise.

Not true. Here is the FAQ from princess addressing oxygen.

    Oxygen

If you will require oxygen supplementation during your sailing, please contact our Fleet Medical Department at (661)753-2680. You will be asked to send a letter or prescription from your doctor. You will also be required to let us know the type of equipment you will be using and whether you will be bringing your own supplies or if you will be having the equipment delivered to the ship.

  6. Are you aware you can share the 15 speciality coffees? Carefully read the New Grounds Coffee Package Terms & Conditions.

It states that the package includes a specified number of ‘specialty coffees’ (15 is typical) during the voyage of purchase, and complimentary brewed coffee and hot chocolate during the same voyage.

It clearly states the coffee package is valid only on the voyage for which it is purchased. If the maximum number of coffees pre-purchased are not used during the voyage, the remaining value will NOT be credited or refunded and is NOT transferable for any purpose.

But it also states that the 15 specialty coffees can be shared. However the complimentary brewed coffee, teas and hot chocolate are limited to the purchaser.

My husband is buying the package, but I am not. He drinks a lot of regular coffee during the day (4 to 6 cups). I drink a cup or two but am happy with an expresso etc. So he’ll drink the regular coffee and share the specialty coffee with me.

Buying nothing else, the coffee package buys 12.5 large expressos, 8.9 cappuccinos, or 6.2 speciality blends.

  7. As stated Princess does NOT have any other alcohol packages. I did some research, well drinks run between $8 & $10, some exotic drinks are more. Wine runs about the same per glass. Beer and hard cider start at $6.25 and go to $8.50. Add 15% to all these estimates. Unless you drink a lot the package is not worth it.

You can not bring any liquor or beer on board, but you can bring wine and soft drinks on board. The 1st bottle of wine is free if drunk in your stateroom, $15 corkage fee if taken to a restaurant. All additional bottles are $15 corkage no matter where drank. Experts say it’s still cheaper to bring your own wine.

BTW: If you purchase a bottle of wine in the dining room, and don’t drink it all, they will mark it and save for your future meals.

  8. The Ruby’s last day in Seattle will be September 29 and she will return to cruising October 13 in Vancouver. She’ll be in drydock in Victoria, BC which is equidistant between Seattle and Vancouver. Prep for Ocean Medallion is the primary reason for the drydock as she was last in drydock in 2015. But while in Victoria they will do some routine maintenance and renovations.

  9. Princess Ships have 110V 60Hz power for North America. But there are very few outlets in the cabin.Typically there are 2 grounded outlets at the desk and a single non-grounded outlet in the bathroom. The 2 desk outlets are very close together. If you are like us, you will bring several devices that need to be plugged in or charged, especially phones, tablets, cameras, and computers.Princess prohibits surge protectors. We have found a very useful power strip and USB charger that is neat and compact, the NTONPOWER donut. It has 3 grounded NA 110V outlets, 3 USB, an on/off switch, no surge protector, and can store its own cord.
