  1. Can you request a table with only your party, or is it luck of the draw?

If you have traditional dining call your travel agent or if you booked direct call royal and ask to have your reservations cross referenced for dining. The other reservation has to also call.

  2. Every time I pass the CI, it still.looks like they are redoing it. The public areas, last year, were still looking sad, and the elevator? Well.slow is an understatement. The Res Inn and CY adjacent, are more recently redone, within.the last couple years.

Thanks, as 138east said it's an airport hotel not a destination. I think we can tough it out for an overnight no matter what. The reviews are all over the place. I might try uber to the ship, we still don't have uber in Western ny so this will be a first for us.

  3. We stayed at Country Inn Nov. 2016, room was clean, breakfast very good, had dinner both nights at Ruby Tuesdays and pleased with their food/service as well. Personnel at hotel were very pleasant and helpful. Hotel has an area where you can buy snacks or frozen "dinner" to eat. If you take Country Inn shuttle to port, I suggest you book at check in to get the leave time you want. You can walk over to the Jersey Gardens Mall, VERY large mall. Took shuttle to Cape Liberty day of cruise with no problem. I always take reviews of others "with a grain of salt" as some just like to complain. It is not like hotels in FLL or Mia, as it is an industrial area, but we found it to be very pleasant. Staying there again this May, 2 nights. Will take shuttle to port again.

  4. Fellow cruise critics, I need your honest opinions about the country inn and suites in Elizabeth NJ (Newark area). I am looking to book a hotel for next feb and can get a decent price at the country inn but the recent reviews in yelp are terrible. People claim it us run down and several call it filthy. Has anyone recently stayed there that can give me a honest cruise critic review of the hotel? I know it's an airport hotel and it's not a Marriott but is it clean and would you stay there again?

    Thanks, mike

  5. You might want to start a new post to get a wider audience. I stayed there about a year ago and it was fine. I was even upgraded to a mini suite that slept 6, which was wasted on a solo traveler. Meg hasn't stayed there for a while.

Bottom line - it's an airport hotel, not a vacation destination.

    Thank you, mike

  6. Got a question regarding country inn and suites in Elizabeth nj. I think meg has stayed there but was wondering if anyone has been there recently? I was looking to book but the TripAdvisor and yelp reviews recently are terrible saying that it is filthy and run down. I always take reviews with caution but there was a number like that. Anyone on cruise critic been there in the last 6 months? It's priced well but don't need a filthy room. Any recent visitors with opinions or should I create a new post?

  7. Hi! We are sailing out of Puerto Rico in July and I'm wondering how to find out which nights are designated for what type of dress. Is that information available when I log in to my cruise?

    Thanks for any help! :)

I know this may not help, but dockers and a collared shirt work for all nights.

  8. We are planning our retirement cruise for 2019. Thinking about the Panama Canal or Mediterranean. Where did you go or are going for your retirement cruise?

    Aileen

Wow, I've done both and after I retired.... my suggestion is you do both but spread them out over a few years. My dw, Deb and I did both. The Panama Canal was a lesson in history and the med was a lesson in beauty. Do both, a year apart.

  9. So weird that anyone would care about how many selfies someone may take. How does it concern you if someone loves their selfies (- provided they don't poke you in the eye or use them in unsuitable places like a temple). And they are often a lot less annoying then someone standing back across the walking path to take a photo and snarling as people try to walk past.

When travelling solo they are fairly essential. Sure you can get others to take your photo but it is often easier to do it yourself.

I'm still trying to figure out why people think they need to be in every photo, sometimes the best Image is the photograph of the object and not someone's large face in front of it. JMOHO.

  10. I was on a transatlantic cruise sept 11, 2011 and we were at sea and the captain had a moment of silence during his announcements for the 10th anniversary. That was the only time I saw anything and I have been on three cruises on sept 11. Being a New Yorker who worked in emergency medical services during that time, I took it as very meaningful but I would understand others who don't think much about it anymore. Thank you for asking, I appreciate it.

  11. My wife and I are d+ and were on harmony for a b2b beginning feb 18 and ending on March 4. There was d+, suites and pinnacle seating every night on both weeks in the theatre. It was the 2 and 3rd row of the center balcony and they opened it to others with 10 min left before the show.

As an aside, I was amazed at how many folks after being told row 2 and 3 were reserved would go down to midway in row one and climb over the seats to get to row 2 and 3 even after being told it was reserved. Only one time in the two weeks we were there did the rccl staff make them move. It's the new world my friends, very sad. I must admit it was amusing to see grandma climbing over the seats to follow her family up to the reserved section.

  12. LOL well, sadly its the only way I can get in the photo

I worked for Kodak after I got out of college for about 20 years and to this day I still offer to take a camera or phone from a person taking a regular picture so they can be a part of the picture and I even return the camera/phone. Old school I guess.

  13. Respectfully - I am sure his staff monitor his email and replied on his behalf.

I received a personal response from Mr. Baley also. It came from his iPhone and had his phone number. I was shocked and responded back that he included his phone number on the response but I wouldn't share it. We had several conversations and he was very nice and professional. I had another encounter with the executive staff dealing with suggestions on how to improve the menu for people with certain medical conditions and I got a call from the executive staff. I asked if Mr. baley actually writes the responses signed by him and I was assured he was indeed writing those responses and is one of the few executives who does. I was truly impressed.

My suggestions based on many years of work in corporate customer support roles on how to get a response follows. 1) be concise and truthful 2) don't ask for unrealistic resolutions 3) don't share info or opinions that have no relationship to your concern. 4) be polite, professional, and respectful.

You would be amazed what positive results I have obtained over my many years of dealing with issues.

  14. We had someone try to sell us specialty dining at our table on day 5 in the MDR. Didn't go over well. Maybe if they hadn't insisted on doing our BOGO special on day 1 or 2. Restaurants nicely filled, but most of us didn't return since they'd downgraded the menus.

I'm adding a line to my list I present the water about no specialty dining at the dinner table.

You have to buy your bogo on day 1 or 2 but it can be used on any day. Sometimes you have to have the person taking the order check with their boss but I have never been refused.
