A free lunch at the Verandah restaurant  is a perk of being a Diamond member ( the highest tier ) of the  World Club loyalty programme.

Ahhhhhh got it. Apologies for my ignorance and thanks for your input. 🙂

Paperless or not, i refered to the diamond perk of a free lunch or discount against a dinner meal at the verandah.

Sorry, again being a newbie, not understanding. Is this a loyalty level? ie silver gold diamond Or is this a benefit of being in QG?

thats great because the Rum Baba is the main reason I go to the verandah....you just saved me $50.... thanks....

That is our situation too. My DH loves his Rum Baba but we are already in QG so seems silly to pay an extra USD$100 to eat elsewhere on board.

  4. We have heard amazing things about the Rum Baba in the Verandah Restaurant but as we are travelling in Queens Grill we are not planning to dine at the Verandah on our 5 night trip as it seems a waste. Believe it maybe possible to order this dessert by pre-order in QG......can anyone confirm from experience?

  5. I know I may get flamed but does anyone have any success on QE with these devices? My DH is a wanderer and yet another internet package seems excessive when we are up to 3 already.

  6. Can anyone please tell me if you have to take priority disembarkation when in QG? We don't need to depart early to catch a flight or anything so would really rather stay till (not quite but close to) the last minute. Seems a bit ass about to have the best cabins kicked off first but to my understanding, QG get priority to disembark but wanted to know if we can request a later disembarkation time.

    Thanks for any insights.

Yes certainly you can. I have occasionally treated myself to Caviar in the Gin Fizz bar ( pre dinner drinks) usually when I sail on my Birthday,  however, it is less hassle to 'pre order' ( an hour or two)  from your stateroom telephone indicating the 'Venue and Time' you expect to arrive. Just make sure that the person on the other end of the telephone at room service understands that your request is to be delivered to a 'Public Venue' of your choice. The first time I requested Caviar 'outside of the Grills' it was delivered to the stateroom where the crew member was unable to gain access  - confusion all around .

Thanks Bell Boy, exactly what I was hoping to confirm. 🙂

  8. Sorry folks, I may not have been clear. I meant can you order it in say the Grills Lounge or the Commodore to enjoy (paying for it as per room service) not for eating in Queens Grill restaurant at meal times.

  9. Hi Cunarders,

Can anyone tell me if the Caviar option available on room service menu can be ordered elsewhere on the ship? Also, anyone know the type of Caviar served?

    Thanks in advance.

Would you tell us why?  Genuinely interested as I can't think of a reason.

After kicking our toes on hard cases multiple times under the bed on one particular cruise our butler was horrified we hadn't requested they be stored. He said they would take them to storage for us and return the day before disembarking. No more painful tootsies!

Plenty of room under the bed We have 2 very large cases and no problem Put the first one under at the side of the bed away from the wall at the top half of the bed. Push as far as you can then put second one under. ( can be. Difficult putting case under at wall side as not a lot of room). There is also a pull out drawer underneath the end of the bed which can fit carry on bags. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info but prefer to get the bags out of the cabin. Anyone done this in the past on Cunard?

Will they not go under the bed?

Don't know, hence the question. Have not cruised with Cunard before but have always got butler to store bags for us out of our cabin on other lines so wanted to know if Cunard will do the same.

We book 1s or 2s depending on the itinerary. I would say bouncing up and down across oceans in any aft cabin wouldn't be my idea of fun.

Many thanks, most helpful. Are the Q1s not Aft on QV as they all appear to be on QE? We too are not fans of aft cabins after booking an Owners cabin on another line that was similarly positioned at the rear of the ship. Don't really understand the layout for the Q1s.....dining table and bath have no view but do in Q2s from what I can tell.

These are fantastic spaces to stay in. If its worth the price for you, is your decision...

Thanks so much. Realise they are both fantastic spaces but my question is differences (other than size) of a Q4 to a Q2 experience and successful upgrade bid experiences.

  15. Hello to the Cunarders,

Just received an upgrade email for our upcoming 5 day QE2 voyage. We are currently in a Penthouse (Q4) but have been offered a Q2 (or Q1) to bid on for an upgrade. We don't like the location or layout of the Q1s but wanted any advice as to whether it is worth bidding for a Q2 upgrade? Can any regulars who have stayed in both give us any tips? Has anyone successfully bid and won? Would be about 50% extra cost but we would get a 100% more space.....other than that I can't see what the benefit would be.

    Thanks in advance.

I have ordered flowers twice, once for my wife's birthday (QM) and once for our anniversary (QE). On both cases they were beautiful. The second time was on a 14 night cruise and about 8 or 9 days into the cruise I called the Purser's Desk and asked if the arrangement could be freshened up a bit. It was almost completely redone and the service was complimentary. We also once sat next to a couple celebrate a birthday and they had preordered a birthday cake which they shared a pieces with us. It was absolutely amazing, one of the most delicious cakes I've ever tasted. It was a yellow cake with a fruit custard icing. The flowers were $60. I don't know how much the cake was. I had to call Cunard to order the flowers.

    Hope this helps

    Jack

Thanks so much Jack. Was beginning to think no one understood what I was asking about.

On another another nameless cruise line, we ordered a full welcome package with flowers, champagne etc etc and it was a disaster & VERY (US$600) expensive. The flowers were dead on arrival to our cabin and the champagne was cheap sparkling. We ended up getting a refund but it just started things off in such a disappointing way when it should have had the opposite effect.

Whilst our cruise is not as long as yours, it is impressive that Cunard were happy to re-fresh the arrangement for you. Based on the photos you posted and the pricing, we will certainly look at ordering flowers now.

    Thanks very much. 🙂

In other non suite grades you get a birthday card and mention on the daily show in the morning. All other treats etc have to be paid for in advance and I think you can only do over the phone. My daughters who were with me ordered flowers onboard which were delivered to my state room. I have seen other people take their own cakes. I have heard people on their tables sing happy birthday but as a family who keep themselves to themselves this is not something I would have wanted. Sorry if that’s disappointing but when you hear the number of birthdays read out each day you realise why there are generally outside of the Grills no free extras.

Not disappointing just hoping to hear from people who have ordered some of the packages offered on the website to see if they are worth the $$$.

Not interested in singing or cakes or anything like that.

  18. Hello Cunarders,

    Hope you are all well.

We are cruising for the first time with Cunard and celebrating two special (40s the final season!! & 60th) birthdays.

Whilst aware of the various gift and additional add on packages that can be arranged for staterooms, we have had incredible difficulty in accessing either online or accurate info (due to non working Cunard links) regarding exact & accurate inclusions and pricing despite contacting Cunard (4 times) directly.

We would like to arrange special treats where possible for each other but also have friends and family who want to make our special (and very rare break) cruise even more memorable.

Has anyone enjoyed (and successfully arranged) special birthday arrangements (paid or otherwise) on Cunard? Are they worth the effort?

We are travelling Queens Grill P4........ is our occasion just something we mention on board or should we add it to our booking somehow via another method before the cruise?

As always on this wonderful forum, all info and advice appreciated.

    🙂

  19. Hi Cunarders,

Can any experienced Cunard Cruisers in Australian waters please advise:

If the onboard Cunard app for things like dinner reservations etc is on a wi-fi network that is presumably free to all Guests (those with or without internet packages/minutes) can this also be used for something like FaceTime Audio on an iPhone to connect with a missing husband or a delayed wife onboard?

Hope this makes some sort of sense.

    Thanks in advance. 🙂
