  1. We are so excited for our upcoming cruise... Just wondering how much of an issue the excessive daylight in addition to time change was for others. We will have a balcony cabin. Although I'm sure drapes help to some degree...the late sunset & early sunrise will surely peek through to throw our internal clocks off...

Would a sleep mask help? Thinking it would be really annoying and uncomfortable though, lol. Can't stand the thought of fabric that doesn't breath (most seem to be made of satin) pressed again my eyelids.

If so, any recommendations for a particular one and any other tips/suggestions would be appreciated!

OP did mention time zone changes but I don't see where OP is from so how do you know it's only 1 time zone? Educate me please :o. Anyway, I wouldn't be able to sleep with a mask on, maybe take some ZZZ Quil.

  2. Ah, poor OP, give her a break. She's trying. You already know how I met my husband on a cruise - but he was a passenger so totally different.

However, the gal I was traveling with hooked up with a bartender on the ship. He managed to sneak into her room at night (I wasn't allowed back to the room until after 2 a.m.) so I know the crew does it. Of course she fell hard for him and he was just in it for the fun. I felt bad for her but she should have known better.

Good luck SeaButterfly, I hope it all works out for you. I would just recommend patience for now. It sounds like he needs to figure out his life first before he can include you in it.

  3. "After deciding not to do a cruise ship wedding, due to some advice on here, we chose Sunset at the Palms, an all-inclusive resort in Negril, Jamaica. It was just the 2 of us (we were older with no kids) but we made so many friends at the resort that we ended up with a lot of guests at the beach wedding. We handed the guests cameras and a video camera, which saved us a lot of money on pictures. The resort also gave us a small reception with a wedding cake. It was perfect".

"I'd always wanted to get married barefoot on the beach at sunset - and I did!"

Now here's a young lady that knows how to use her head----er, feet! A belated congratulations for your big day on the beach almost 10 years ago.

Why thank you! I was told that cruise ships are NOT romantic places, with so many people and kids running around.

  4. The best area on the Westerdam will be on the top deck in front, in the Crow's Nest lounge. You can relax in one of the barkeloungers in the very front by the windows and just stare at the beautiful scenery. Just get an Ocean View cabin and you'll still be able to see a lot of Alaska.

It'll be as peaceful and relaxing as you make it. But remember that we Seattleites aren't able to appreciate the scenery quite as much because we're surrounded by it on a daily basis. It's just "more" in Alaska.

  5. Cool! And they are all proper quotes, with the arrow that links back up to the original quote. Awesome for those who use the app. Thanks for testing this! :)

    .

I didn't know about that arrow either, thanks!

This remains a very useful thread; I could not find the answer elsewhere.

Thanks for bringing this thread to 2016! Very helpful for us computer challenged people! And BTW, you have to be logged in to see the " button at the bottom, duh!

  6. After deciding not to do a cruise ship wedding, due to some advice on here, we chose Sunset at the Palms, an all-inclusive resort in Negril, Jamaica. It was just the 2 of us (we were older with no kids) but we made so many friends at the resort that we ended up with a lot of guests at the beach wedding. We handed the guests cameras and a video camera, which saved us a lot of money on pictures. The resort also gave us a small reception with a wedding cake. It was perfect.

My family threw us a small reception when we got home.

I'd always wanted to get married barefoot on the beach at sunset - and I did!

I hope the OP comes back to let us know what she has decided.

  7. Please don't think I'm flaming you, because I mean no offense by my question. :o

But, I am curious as to how perfume gives you a headache, and the smell of Pine-Sol doesn't? I use a lot of different household cleaners and (next to bleach) Pine-Sol has the strongest, most lasting odor of anything. I'm just a little surprised that someone with sensitivity to scents wouldn't stick to the more "natural" household cleansers, like baking soda and vinegar.

That's a really great question and I hope pghsteelerfan comes back to answer for herself. A lot of scent sensitivity is strictly with perfumes. I can clean house with the good stuff ("with bleach") and not be bothered. But add a fragrance/perfume to anything and I'm toast.

pghsteelerfan, what your MIL did is inexcusable; makes me so angry just thinking about it. I may have grabbed that bottle of perfume out of her hands, cursing her, kicked her out, and billed her for a new loveseat. Grrr!

  8. JeJeTe, I posed this exact same question about 9.5 years ago. Someone wisely suggested that I look for a wedding package at an all-inclusive resort. I chose one in Negril, Jamaica (west coast) - for a reasonable price, they provided a beach wedding at sunset.

    Just something else to consider.

  9. I'm scent-sensitive enough that I use products that are fragrance-free (not unscented, which still has a chemical scent). But if I'm around somebody who has over-dosed in the perfume or cologne, I'm not shy about letting them know it's offending me.

Please people, just bathe already and quit trying to hide your stink with that awful perfume!

  10. La Nina weather system is almost here so Seattle may not have as hot of a summer that it has had the past 3. Very mild weather all year (not too hot, not too cold) so air conditioning is pretty rare in these parts. I wouldn't worry about it.

Inn at the Market has the best location. But please be careful. Seattle is a big city and the downtown area is not safe after dark.

  11. I would recommend a tankini - with swim shorts or swim skirt and a separate long top. She can get one pair of the swim shorts/skirt and more than one top to go with. It's much easier to use the restroom with a 2-piece than a 1-piece, and you get more variety.

  12. The only time I didn't arrive the day before was when I only had to fly SEA to LAX to catch a Mexican Riviera cruise. It really is an easy and short flight. No worries about weather in either city as they both have fabulous summer weather. The only worry would be mechanical issues with the plane.

The odds are probably in your favor.

  13. It depends what day of the week you're arriving. If it's a week day, no way. Seattle has horrible traffic (I know, I commute to work M-F in it - but on a Metro bus). Weekends are much better but still not great. Seattle is behind the times in transportation options but they're working on it. Meanwhile, too many people, too many cars, not enough freeways = terrible traffic. Plan accordingly.

  14. The worst thing I have ever forgotten was an extra pair of contact lenses. Of course on Night 2, I dropped one down the drain. I did go to dinner one night with one blind eye. Luckily I brought a fancy extra pair of glasses that I had never worn before - they broke on the first day I wore them. Sigh. That was a very blinding cruise...

  15. I prefer Southern myself. Then Eastern.

If you like beaches (heaven to me), the difference between Southern/Eastern and Western (basically Mexico) is that the white sand beaches on the Southern/Eastern islands are mixed with ground coral, which keeps the sand cool. In Mexico, the sand isn't white and doesn't have coral in it, so it's very hot on your feet. You basically have to RUN from your beach chair to the water, lol.

  16. Watched the finale after work today. RE Erin's dress...that illusion long sheath dress is so hot now. It's usually over a shorter skirt but lately I've seen it more over a one piece swimsuit look. Erin looked gorgeous in it. And I did like Carrie Ann's hair, a long messy mohawk with side braids, very unique. And loved the top of her dress also.

The benefit of recording the show is the ability to fast forward through the junk. Oy.

It was a great season with no clear winner this time. Made it more fun to watch. And how amazing that a deaf guy won, wow. Thanks to all of you for watching along. Until September then...

  17. I wasn't able to watch the finale last night because it didn't start until my bedtime, but of course I peaked to see who won. Can't wait to see Erin's "dress" after all of your comments.

I wasn't really rooting for Nyle because I thought he just expected to win because he's all that. But after seeing his freestyle final dance to Sounds of Silence, I melted. It was just that good. So yes, he did deserve it. Although I thought any of the final 3 could have won before their final dances.

I'll be back tomorrow with my thoughts about Erin's dress, and maybe Carrie Ann's too.

  18. Monday night, first night of the finals. So far, they've all danced the first dance. Free style still to come.

Erin's dress is a gorgeous color of turquoise and a very pretty style. I love her hair also. Did you hear her say she's wearing a weave? You can't even tell, amazing.

Still have only seem the top of Carry Ann's dress, love it.
