  1. To show or not show bra straps...young women today don't care. I see bra straps all the time these days. It's a matter of choice. I could care less if someone is showing their bra straps. I don't do it...but that's my choice. But if I were young...I'd show mine and wouldn't care.:D

The clear straps are suppose to be better than cloth ones. But, if you care about not showing straps...these can still be seen.

  2. Here is my typical outfit plan for a 7-day Caribbean cruise.

Day 1 - Travel outfit - a pr. of Capri pants (or jeans/leggings) with a tunic-length top & cardigan, a straw hat, small-cross-body bag & large tote along with my sunglasses and athletic shoes (sneakers). I'll change into clean underwear and change the shoes to nice sandals and a clutch for dinner. (We usually fly in from CA). Underwear, PJs, & flip flops (used as slippers) round out the day.

Day 2 - Cotton tunic-length top (which can be used as a cover-up) and Capri pants w/swimsuit underneath and a pair of sandals, my straw hat, sunglasses, cross body bag and tote get me through the day. For dinner I'll wear a clean tunic top with Capri pants, dressy sandals and a clutch bag.

Day 3- I'll wear the outfit I wore from the evening before w/my swimsuit under it, and all the accessories from the day before. For dinner, if it's "formal" night...I'll wear a maxi skirt and dressy top or dress, a clutch bag, and add some nice costume jewelry.

Day 4- Same as Day 2.

Day 5- Same as Day 3 for second formal night.

Day 6- Same as Day 2.

Day 7- Travel Outfit - Jeans (or leggings), tunic-length top and cardigan and all the accessories from Day 1.

I jazz up my evening outfits with costume jewelry and/or scarves and I'll have a choice of two dressy sandals.

It goes without saying that I change underwear everyday and I usually bring 3-4 swimsuits and two workout outfits (which easily roll-up and take up very little room in my suitcase). I'll bring 3 pair. of pjs. I use flipflops as bedroom slippers and carry them in my tote for the beach. I wear my sneakers for travel days and the gym and on excursions if needed, and I'll have two pair of sandals (one for casual nights and daytime and one for formal evenings). I always bring at least one pair of jeans for excursions...like horseback riding or ATVing. I also bring several pairs of socks to wear with my sneakers. I never wear hose!

    That's my basic outfit plan.

  3. If anyone hasn't tried a Gel manicure and is curious about it, I would say at least give it a try. (Not artificial nails of any kind ... but just the Gel polish.) I *LOVE* that a Gel polish mani usually lasts me 3 weeks with no chipping or peeling.

I usually go for a new mani at about three weeks because the polish will have started to grow out from my cuticle area well before there is any noticeable wear or problems on the rest of my nail.

I kept turning down the 'gel upgrade' at the salon because I didn't think it would be worthwhile ... figured there was no way it would last as long as they said it would .... but once I tried it, I've rarely NOT gotten it. I've read conflicting things about whether it is 'good' for your nails or not ... but for me it seems to be great and my nails grow better than ever.

After reading your post I'm thinking of getting a professional gel mani-pedi for my trip to Cancun next month. What is the ballpark price for a gel mani-pedi these days?

  4. I don't use polish at home personally, but I do have friends/family members that use the gel two step process at home and seem to like it (Sally Hansen and Essie most notably). There are several others too.

    Essie Gel Couture

    Sally Hansen Miracle Gel

They're available at drugstores, Ulta etc

Good luck! Enjoy your trip! :)

Just a note...I've used the Sally Hansen brand and like it very much!:)

  5. Hi everyone. I'm looking for backpack recommendations that I can use for our excursions. Previously I used my Kipling travel purse, but this time around our 5yr old is coming with and we need a little more room for things. So I'm looking for a recommendations.

We need one big enough to hold a towel or two, some small items and a water bottle. Please share the ones you love that are cute, can fit a number of items (but not too big), that is comfortable to wear and maybe even waterproof.

I notice from your post that you live in California. So do I!:D I shop a lot at TJ Maxx and they carry many different styles and brands of backpacks. They also have a great variety of styles of the Baggalini brand which I personally love. Prices are very modest compared to what you'd pay for a Baggalini item on the internet. I recently bought a really nice backpack there for $20. It has lots of outside compartments for carrying items like water bottles and your cellphone within easy reach. It's very very roomy on the inside. It's faux leather and I've already traveled with it several times so it's proven to be sturdy as well. My DH and DS (21) love it and would have had me get them one but it has a couple of pyramid-shaped studs on the handle at the top that they considered too feminine for them. LOL! Otherwise they both love it.

  6. If you're under 30, you might like them. If you're an adult...there is NO attraction to torn clothing.

I respectfully disagree...I'm 70 years old and I'm very much attracted to distressed clothing and have been for years. My DS just sent out of picture he took of me in the camo-print duster I recently bought at Forever XXI on his Snapchat because he really liked me in it and he love's to post pictures of his mom looking "cool" (his word not mine). LOL! Age is nothing but a number. JMHO :D

  7. I love this attitude!!! I'm 43 and someone actually told me that I shouldn't shop at Forever 21 [emoji15]. I'm on the curvy side and their jeans aren't flattering for me. I like their sweaters and tanks. I'm slimming down, but until I get there I'll be paying $99 for jeans at Chico's because they fit [emoji5].

I shop there all the time. Like you, at this point, I can't wear most of their pants and even most of their tops. But I usually always find something. I especially like their inexpensive accessories, handbags and shoes. You just have to take the time and shuffle through a lot of stuff...but I almost always find something. My latest purchase there was the camo-print, maxi-length, duster that I bought in the men's department. LOL! The men's dept. of Forever XXI has great jackets! The larger sizes fit me well.:D

  8. Happy belated Birthday to Melody and Sally!:D

Margaret, I wish you the best of luck in grad school! It's never too late to get a graduate degree. I know several people that have gone back to school for their MBA and law degrees. All over 40! I think it's awesome!

Laurie, Again...you have such a great eye for color. I love that green necklace with the green tank top and shorts. Can't wait to see more outfits!!!

My group of friends here in CA and I trekked south to Long Beach today (in a rain storm) to celebrate one of our BFF's 65 birthday. We had a great time. This weekend my niece is coming for a girl's day to show me the table decorations I volunteered to carry to Cancun for her wedding. The DH and I are flying on Southwest Airlines so I'm able to check two pieces of luggage so I offered to do this for her. Then were going to the new Sephora store near me so we can get some makeup for the wedding. We told the DH he's out of the equation but we did tell him he could join us at the end of the day for dinner. LOL!:D

  9. Since the trip is a surprise for your husband I'd go with what is on his bucket list over the ship. You can sail on the Vista another time.

Ditto! I totally agree with SCGirl go for the bucket list! Whatever you decide I hope your hubby is totally surprised and that you both have an awesome cruise. Happy Sailing!:D

  10. Are you all paying full price for these shoes?

I'm with you! I'd love to try them but not at that price!!! The way I shop (discount stores like TJs, Marshalls, or Ross 4 Less...I could get 4 pair of designer shoes for the price of one pair of these!

However, if you can afford them. Good for you! Wish I could...LOL! If anyone knows where you can buy them at a cheaper price...please do share where! I've been dying to try a pair.

  11. I like to do different colors on different fingernails and then pick only one of the colors for my toes. It's fun! I usually pick colors that match the color scheme I'm using in my clothes.

However, for my niece's upcoming wedding in Cancun, MX...I'm going with a flat bright white for my mani/pedi as it looks great with my naturally tan-colored skin. White goes with everything so I won't have to worry about that.

Do let us know what you decide Noreen.

  12. I have had my 2 swimsuits for well over 10 years, and I think it's about time for a new one. I haven't changed sizes, but I'm not as toned as I used to be, and the weight seems to have, uh, redistributed itself somewhat.

I just turned 55, so even though I wear a size 4-6, I don't want anything too young-ish looking. I am very, very flat on top (34AA) and not too curvy. I have a short torso and very long legs. I've always worn 2 pieces, but I'm thinking I may be wanting a one piece now.

I love love love the vintage look, but I need suggestions on where to go to get something cute, flattering, that will fit my flat chest, and not cost a fortune. I've been on 3 cruises and haven't once ventured into the pool or hot tub, and I don't swim, so function isn't too important. Ideas?

I agree with the poster that recommended you check out Target. They have really really cute swimsuits for woman of all sizes. They have a lot of different styles and are very inexpensive. I love to wait till the end of the season and get them on sale. I've got several bottoms and tops at prices ranging from $4-$10 on sale. Check them out if you have one near you. Good luck finding what you want and need! Let us know when you do.:D

  13. I do like jeans with different washes, skinny or slim fit, stripes and prints. Whole without holes. Bib-tops are also making a comeback.

I also have a lined jean jacket for winter.

Yep! I have a couple of bibbed overalls. One pair is distressed w/holes and rips and I love them. I also have a collection (bought over the last 30 years) of jean jackets. I have about 25-30 of them in all colors, prints, stripes, & styles. I just love denim!

My DS (21) has turned me on to what the newest style in jeans are (and no...I'm not going to buy any)...it's when the side seam of the jeans twists towards the front and they're really skinny. He loves them. He's also into jeans (and I also have some of them) that have ribbing at the ankle...I think they're called "joggers."

I think jeans of any kind are fun for people of all ages. It's just a matter of knowing when to wear them and where.

  14. Thanks for all the posts. My arms are toned but very wrinkled and I have started to think I should cover them to the elbows. Up until now I have worn tank tops and halter dresses and my daughters like to wear my clothes so I do not feel I dress as a old women.

Getting older is not always fun but at least I will start to get my social security in April!!!!

    Lynn

I know what you're going through. I remember when I made the decision to stop wearing sleeveless and strapless clothing. It's not easy getting older all the time. I've made peace with it.

I'm from FL but live in CA now. When I visit family in FL I see many many women of a certain age wearing sleeveless tops and they seem very comfortable and perfectly happy dressed that way. So the bottom line is, "how do you feel"? If you're questioning it then I think maybe it's time to give it up but if you really don't want to and feel comfortable wearing such clothing then I say, "go ahead!" It's all about you and how you feel about it...we can only give you our opinions and support.

For me...my "flap in the breeze", un-toned arms are staying covered up. Funny thing is...I have no problem when I'm in a swimsuit or at the gym showing my arms because it's what I have to do. But...given a choice...I cover them up.

  15. Melody,

I would love a copy of that pattern so my mom could make one up for me. She was never able to show me how to crochet as she's right-handed and I'm left-handed. She does such beautiful work. She's makes stuff for everyone. I've got scarves, ponchos, vests, etc. etc. She's also famous for her baby outfits and blankets. All of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, other family and friends treasure them.

Do let us know how it turns out. Maybe you could post a picture of it when it's done. I'm sure it's going to be lovely.

  16. I haven't worn pantyhose in years and years but having said that...if you feel comfortable in them there's really no reason why you shouldn't wear them. I do, especially in winter, where black tights to keep my legs warm. But I would never wear them with any kind of open-toed shoe or bootie.

  17. Melody,

OMG! I'm so jealous, envious, and all that stuff! LOL! 15-day cruise...if only....

I'm lucky to get a 3-dayer this year.

    Laurie,

Love, love, love all your outfits. I've always thought you have great taste and a wonderful eye for detail. I especially love the print dress with the zipper. I love that zipper...it's kind of sassy. LOL! Love the print and colors on it too. Great choice! Can't wait to see the day outfuts!!!
