  1. even if it causes the cruise line to either cancel or reroute their plans ? I can understand if a person didnt want to take the cruise if war in a nearby area was concerning but when it alters the cruise you booked, I would think that would be a different situation. I can also understand the insurance side of it where the cruise line should agree to cancel and then insurance picks up anything not covered. But I am inexperienced in all of this (but learning fast)
  2. I agree, you do have to read the fine print and know what you are getting into but there are gentler ways of advising that. btw, I dont research appliances I am buying except maybe if the cost was tremendous. A washer and dryer, no. I might consider the brand and be skeptical if I had never heard of it but other than that, no.
  3. I dont know why they wouldnt agree to a credit I was just going by what was written by the OP (I am assuming she asked them and was not just assuming) I now realize that even with a cruise credit her flights would still be a problem. This experience described here is a good argument for 1) having the cruise line take care of the flights and 2) always have travel insurance especially with a cancel for no reason clause. (which is harder to get) Trip cancellation insurance is not very expensive. I just purchased a policy for my upcoming cruise and paid $136 which not only covers the trip but I think (I'd have to check for exact amount I ended up choosing, I looked at so many) 100,000 medical and a large amount for transportation. Its medical I am most interested in as i am 73. Before Medicare, I always had excellent health insurance who would have covered bills in foreign countries (I called and asked them) Even an annual policy isnt extremely expensive. But if I were going on a cruise such as the one in this post I would be more concerned about the trip coverage because this cruise probably is pricey. It seems like NCL is offering to refund in this scenario but again, those flights. Just in case someone comments that 100,000 medical is not nearly enough (and I'd have to check, it may have been 500,000 I finally chose) the cruise I purchased this insurance for is only for 1 week and much of it is on US soil. If I were going to Europe or beyond I would be more careful about the amount of medical insurance I had. And even 100,000 is way above what NCL offers and many other cheaper policies (NCL is not that much cheaper)
  4. Actually 4 guys in a tent with no bathroom would probably have more privacy. I would have no problem sharing a regular inside cabin with someone other than my spouse. In fact, I did in February. My son in law (about 40 yrs younger) and I did share an inside cabin on the Joy with a *normal* bathroom arrangement. Shower, toilet and sink in one enclosed room. It was not a problem. This arrangement on the Epic is different. And the sink away from the toilet and in the room is the worst part. A sink should always be near the toilet for sanitary reasons. (I know this is the situation in some hotels, with the sink outside of the bathroom) But I knew about this arrangement, I was just wondering if the Family Insides on the Epic were arranged any differently. The description mentions *separate* bathrooms. I think by *separate* they must mean that the toilet, sink and shower are all separate from each other, not that there is another bathroom for guests 3 and 4. I agree that separate cabins on the Epic is the way to go.
  5. I think that they wouldnt agree to a credit and that is the point of the post. And she is anticipating difficulty finding new flights if NCL reroutes. I dont think she is complaining that her travel plans are ruined while so much suffering is going on. But now it sounds like NCL is giving refunds so.... If the OP hasnt purchased travel insurance (many people dont) let this be a lesson learned for the future. We've all had to learn uncomfortable lessons at some point in our lives.
  6. If I understand the post correctly and since she said something about a credit she wants to cancel (with refund) and NCL is not agreeing to that . Maybe I'm naive but I would think this type of situation would be one where NCL would give the right to cancel without penalty. But then someone posted that NCL is allowing people to cancel through the end of 2023. And I also agree, a good argument for "cancel for any reason" insurance. Another thing keep in mind- when you travel to parts of the world where there is unrest, anything could happen. Some of these comments are kind of rough though. Maybe with years of traveling experience someone might have avoided this predicament but it does sound like it will be okay for the OP in the end
  7. I guess that would be one advantage of booking through the cruise line. Kind of like only booking excursions run by the cruise line because if they are late the ship will wait. In the situation you describe, they'd have to get you back home, I would hope.
  8. btw, I will be on the Encore 10/22 to see Alaska for the first time. Should be interesting

  10. I for one think the captain should have apologized the next day, if he didnt. Hard to say if he did or didnt without being there. And as someone pointed out, you only hear the announcements in public places (unless its a life or death emergency) so if you were in the bathroom at the time maybe you missed hearing that. I wouldnt say you are 'whining", maybe inexperienced Anyone who has traveled by sea often knows this happens from time to time. I would prefer this to turbulence in the air. At least on a ship you have a cabin to stay in and not hearing other people screaming or throwing up (as they do on airplanes)
  11. that is true. I wasnt really criticizing the captain for not apologizing or at least commenting but would be surprised he didnt. Because that's just someone we all do even when we are not responsible for something that happened on our watch.
  12. I am a newbie to NCL but have joined in on some of the criticisms but..... what happened as described here is what sometimes happens on the seas especially when you go at times of the year that are often not "smooth sailing". My family has told stories of emigrating from England many years ago in February, calling the room steward in the middle of the night because the porthole flew open and water was washing into the cabin. It happens. As long as lives arent in danger, it is part of the experience of life on the sea.
  13. as I posted in another second of this thread, I was on a Cunard voyage one January and the captain did apologize the next morning when making the morning announcements I felt I had to hold on to the sides of the bed (probably not, but that's what it felt like) and I figured it out myself, "oh rough seas I guess" So an apology would be a nice gesture. You know, one of those polite things you do even if it wasnt your fault?
  14. I was on a Cunard voyage in January and one night there were very rough seas. I felt like I had to hold onto the side of my bed. No announcement made but the Captain did apologize the next morning during morning announcements.
  15. There are daylight hours to view the scenery and other nights to view the night sky. For an individual, seeing a performance of Choir of Man only takes away an hour or two of one night. You can do both! Except you cant if one is cancelled. Fortunately they cant cancel the night sky
  16. I called today about this and was told that it can be rescheduled once we get on board. I'll believe that when it happens. last time the rush to the screens to book were a chaotic scene.
  17. Just received an email that the show I reserved has been cancelled due to "scheduling conflicts" No other explanation or suggestions. (other than check at the box office onboard ship) On our last cruise Footloose was cancelled due to cast injury. Not happy
  18. thank you for your perspective, it is similar to mine although I'm not sure I'd even want to do it with my husband lol. Connecting studios sound good but I think you'd get a little more room with solo in an inside cabin. I have to work on this. I am also looking at the Aft Balconies. I notice the Epic has 4 types of balconies, the Aft Balcony, the Family Balcony, the Large Balcony, the solo balcony. There might even be a regular balcony in there which would make 5 types. The last one's balcony sounds really small, for 1 person. The Aft Balcony looks very nice yet still affordable.
  19. am I understanding correctly that the Air Fare promo can only be applied 4 months or more before the cruise? The cruise I am looking at is April 4th so that means I have to call before Dec 4th. I will do that soon. Normally I'm not very interested in their Air Promo but $490 (and possibly less) from Rome to Boston isnt too bad from the prices I've seen. Anything around that price or less is full of possible problems.
  20. I'm sure it is explained somewhere but it certainly doesnt make it easy to understand no matter how great you think NCL is. I'm neutral on that, not enough experience to form an opinion one way or another and I keep looking to book cruises so....... I've said it before, the bottom line is what counts and if I am willing to pay it. Forget about easy to understand lol
  21. I would say that this is an example of fraudulent advertising. I'm curious to know what these numbers would look like when the Air Promo isnt running. I've been told that the 2nd guest isnt free, the Air promo really is one half off each guest. But even that doesnt makes sense out of the example I gave. Pay $490 for 1, $980 for 2. Unless the air fare is really $980 for one guest, the 2nd guest is free, the numbers come from giving each half off. I guess that would make it legitimate. One problem is that I dont have a realistic idea of what an air fare from Rome to Boston would be. Plus Boston to Cape Canaveral. That total could be worth $980. The confusion begins with me not realizing that $490 for these two fares for one person is absurd in today's air travel. I planned to call anyway as I would want to make my own way to Port Canaveral. I'd skip the Air Promo altogether except that choosing an international flight is a nightmare which has led to a long thread where I was quickly informed I was out of date with my expectations. I just like things to make sense and not much does here. Bottom line is $490 for one person (plus ground transportation) seems fine for me for a flight from Rome to Boston and it would probably be somewhat less than that since I plan to opt out of the first leg to Cape Canaveral (if that's allowed)
  22. This is enough to drive someone to drink. If I book an inside cabin for one person air fare for the "first guest" is $490 with $112.50 ground transportation fees. (I understand that these fees are not part of the promo) If I book an inside cabin for 2 people, air fare for "first guest" is $980 plus $225 ground transportation fees and "second guest" is free. How is the 2nd guest's air fare "free" when the first guest is double what it would have been if that guest was booking the cabin for one person. $980 is twice $490. Please help me understand this.
