  1. If the excursion is going to the top, it is one to two hours drive up from Kahului.
  2. In 2019, we used a cruise line excursion on debarkation day to Kenai Fjords National Park. They bused us to the boat docks. We did the excusion to Alki Glacier and back. They bused us to Anchorage, dropping people at Aleyska, the airport and the downtown hotels. We were at our hotel about 5 pm. This excursion plus transfer would work for your flight.
  3. We rented from Avis on Mill Street in 2019. It was a 15 minute walk from the main cruise docks (closer to the AJ Dock). We returned the car after the office closed by using their drop box. We were satisfied with the rental.
  4. The Southeast Alaska Discovery Center in Ketchikan took our Senior pass for admission to the museum and provided access to their Wi-Fi.
  5. Great news. That’s the first I’ve heard that. We’ve rented there with no problems. The office is about a 15 minute walk (up hill) from the main cruise docks.
  6. Cruises originating in Copenhagen leave from Oceankaj. The cruise terminal is in a large commercial port with no nearby hotels. There will be a shuttle or bus to the cruise terminal from the Orientkaj Metro station. You take the metro from any hotel near a metro station to Orientkaj.
  7. In Ketchikan, Totem Bight is relatively close to Ward Cove, while Saxman is on the other side of town.
  8. Before Covid, both Avis and Juneau Car Rentals had offices by the AJ Dock, which is where we rented from. Since Covid, those offices have been closed. Cars need to rented from the airport offices.
  9. We rented a car for the day in Juneau. Our day’s itinerary was: Get to Mendenhall before the excursion buses. Lunch at the Sand Bar. The Shrine of Sainte Theresa. Eagle Beach. Echo Cove (north end of the road). Cross over to Douglas Island. North to boat launch with the long view of Mendenhall. South to Savikko Beach. Back to Juneau proper. The Whale Sculpture. Up to the heights above the state capitol building overlooking the city. Refuel and drop off the car.
  10. Juneau is a walkable town. Near the cruise port are the tourist shops and restaurants with some local shops mixed in. The state capitol area is a medium walk uphill with local architecture, a museum or two along the way.
  11. Katmai and Lake Clark require flying in on a tour. The tours are a bit pricey, about $1000 a person for a day trip from Anchorage to either park. The highlight of both parks is seeing the coastal brown bears catching salmon. May is too early. The best time is July to August.
  12. The port schedule shows Oceankaj quay 332. This is Termnal 2 at Oceankaj.
  13. Are you sure you’re at Nordre Toldbod? Most cruises that begin or end at Copenhagen dock at Oceankaj.
  14. My photo of the Point Atkinson lighthouse has a time stamp of 5:38 pm on a 4 pm sailing. I took it from the dining room during a 5 pm seating.
  15. Look at the about page of Alaska Shore Excursions https://alaskashoreexcursions.com/about-us Compared to Liquid Alaska https://liquidalaskatours.com/employment/
  16. It appears that Alaska Shore Excursions is a reseller and that Liquid Alaska is a tour operator.
  17. There is a trail with lots of stairs through the woods from the Married Man Trail up to the lodge. It is a nice climb for those who are able. We went up that trail to the lodge and down a stairs on the other side on our way to the Totem Heritage. Center.
  18. Two details in the above post that were different in our experience: 1. On the train from Anchorage, lunch in the dining car was at our cost, not included. 2.. The statement that entry into Denali National Park is restricted to the tour buses is misleading. Entry into the INTERIOR of Denali National Park is restricted to tour or shuttle buses. There are free shuttles from the hotel to the Visitor Center in the park and free shuttles that run around the first dozen miles of the Park road. For example, you can take free shuttles into the park to visit sled dogs kennel. We did not even use the shuttles, but walked from the hotel into the park along trails and had encounters with moose there.

    Sea Otters

We saw sea otters in Resurrection Bay, just outside of Seward harbor and puffins in Kenai Fjords National Park; both on an excursion.
  20. Before the closure, the TWT went to Stoney Hill overlook, mile 62. The park transit buses went farther into park to Eielson Visitor Center, mile 66, Wonder Lake, mile 85, and Kantishna, mile 92.
  21. If you are interested in Denali either before or after the cruise, the tour into the park does not run far into the park until June. This was our main timing issue when we were scheduling a May cruise. We cruised the last week of May and then went to Denali.
  22. We were in Glacier Bay the last week of May 2019. The ship did a full turn at both Margery and John Hopkins.
