  1. I recently purchased a studio on Quantum from Shanghai within 45 days of sailing' date=' so studio rooms are available on some sailings. I heard about these rooms while I was on Oasis last year.[/quote']

It would still be to the OP's benefit to figure out if paying the solo supplement is cheaper than the studio. Based on other threads here, it does happen frequently. Considering that the often-lower pricing of paying for two people for a larger room and double C+A points, it looks like the benefit of a studio is just easier pricing upfront.

  2. The ship has no limit. US customs may have a duty free limit.

US Customs allowances are $800 and 1 liter of alcohol (you're allowed a second liter if coming from the Caribbean and that liter was produced there). You can bring more then that back, but might be charged duty on the additional. I've also heard that many CBP officers won't bother with the extra duty if the amount to be charged is so small that it's not worth the effort.

In any case, declare any alcohol you do bring, whether it's over the limit or not. Not declaring it could result in confiscation.

  3. How? Doesn't iMessage need Wifi (or a cell signal) to work? Our family of 4 is going. We all have iPhones. I bought Voom just so we can stay connected via text on the ship.

This only works on Harmony and the Quantum-class ships as those have the Royal IQ apps. The Royal app and iMessage use the same network protocols, so currently Royal can't block iMessages on those ships without blocking their own app (this could change at any time).

All other ships without the IQ app blocks iMessage- you will need a wifi package to use iMessage.

  4. All assuming the first assignment happens well in time before the sailing.

Thank you for the help! (y)

Assignment times vary quite a bit. Some people are assigned one almost as soon as they book. Others have reported getting assigned less than a week out, even if they booked more than a year out.

  5. Our last cruise was on Athem, on one of the nights they had on the menu a sweet and sour tofu, she was really looking forward to it, but they brought her something else.

Next time she sees something on the menu, she should ask about it. In this case, assuming the tofu is actually vegan, I'm sure the staff would have brought her one since it was on the regular menu that night.

  6. Here's what I would recommend:

    1) Contact your local news stations' consumer advocate with as many details as possible.

    2) Post to the RCCL facebook page - that tends to get immediate attention due to high visibility.

    3) Contact the FL Dept of Agriculture & Consumer Affairs immediately. If you do not live in Florida, also write to your local's consumer protection agency.

    4) Write a letter to the BBB - not an email

    5) Send a certified letter to Michael Bailey immediate, again with all the details. eMail is easily lost and ignored.

I've worked at a TV station in the past and in the hospitality industry now. The situation, while unfortunate at first, isn't really local news-worthy, especially as it's now been resolved. And sending paper letters is inefficient in the hospitality biz if you need a quick response. E-mails can easily be forwarded to the person best able to fix the situation, and it also arrives immediately. Sending a letter means it'll take a couple of days just to get to its destination, then likely another day or two before it gets to whoever can act on it.

RCI is also likely using feedback software that flags negative reviews left on social media sites and surveys (possibly e-mails as well). So it's unlikely that e-mail is "easily lost and ignored" by RCI.

I'm happy the OP got a satisfactory resolution to this situation.

  7. Actually, we were planning on boarding the Jewel at 11am, but then leave the ship after our room opens at 1pm to explore Old San Juan, returning around 530 or 6pm

I read somewhere that unlike the Adventure out of SJ, Jewel only does one muster drill at 8:30pm, with normal dining times adjusted for the drill.

  8. Our drink package on the April 26 Grandeur sailing went down to $39 per person today. Do you think they are lowering the prices because it is mandatory for all persons 21 and over in each cabin to purchase it? Ordinarily, the three drinks loaded to my card are enough for me and my husband would purchase the package. Now we both have to buy it.

You can call in and order a drink package for one person and refreshment for the other.

  9. Thank you for you help. I will try and bring water for me and canned soda for my husband. Do you think it is more likely to be confiscated in checked bag or carry on. Not trying to be sneaky but I just don't like the taste of the ship's water and want some to take in ports.

If it's in the checked luggage, you might have to go get your bag from security later, but you'll very likely be able to keep the soda/water. They just need to know the cans/bottles aren't alcoholic.

  10. Hi

We are sailing in 1.5 weeks and are curious if there is a wine package. Every now and again I think I see a post about one but I’m not sure. We’re not big enough drinkers to get the beverage package, but do like wine.

    Thank you!

Sent from my iPad using Forums

RCL used to have a wine/beer package, but no more. Best bet here is to bring your wine allocation of 2 bottles per stateroom, and then consider buying by the bottle (if you're with a group with someone who does have the drink package, have them buy the bottles as they get a discount and pay them back).

  11. I have found out that things are a little different than I am used to....I like to check in as soon as I book and buy "extras" before the prices go up...can't do that with RCCL...only 90 days out:eek:..

You’re correct that you can’t check in more than 90 days in advance, but you’ll be able to buy excursions, beverage packages, etc several months in advance (exact timing varies by cruise, but start checking a year out).

  12. We booked a cruise 2 days ago (Oasis, April 22, 2018) and received the 30% off. With the WOW sale, it now says that you get up to $300 OBC for 6-8 night cruises. Does Royal Caribbean honor that for cruises already booked? Can I call them and ask for the OBC to be added?

You’ll have to do the math. If the fare is higher than what you paid, but the OBC is more than the difference, then it’s worth a call. If not, don’t bother. They won’t just give you the OBC outright- you have to reprice under the new promo.
