  1. I am a bear lover, too - been to Alaska a couple of times - only ever saw bears in Juneau ... but they were definitely catching salmon (saw them on the boardwalk by the Mendenhall glacier). We have done the rail/bus combo. We are in Skagway again this summer - if there were cars available, I think we would have rented one - but are going to do do the rail trip for sure. I don't think you can lose in Skagway with any of these three options - the scenery is beautiful and you will get fantastic pictures on any of these options (the bus driver we had stopped every time anyone wanted to stop - it was just a small bus with 11 of us on it).
  2. Our Alaska Cruisetour (departing July 23 on the Koningsdam) is also off the website now ... doesn't even appear in the "sold out" category. They keep sending updates about testing, our airport transfer and flight times so I'm not (too) worried. But yes, if you are worried - definitely call!
  3. I'm not the expert 🙂 but I just googled it and they say they have the Tamarind (which is amazing if it is open on the first day - don't miss it for lunch), New York Pizza and the Dive In (aft deck) - my DHs two favourite snack/lunch places overall ...
  4. I was going to say leave the lobster for when you visit our amazing maritime provinces ... (and the scallops, too!) ... My DH's favourite are the chocolate bombs at the Dutch Cafe. My personal favourite are the made to order salads in the Lido (how sad?) - by the second day, the servers know exactly what I like and how I like it ... the other thing I absolutely love are the cold soups. They didn't seem to have them on our last cruise (pre-covid) - hoping to see some soon!
  5. We always aim for the MDR on embarkation day - the only day we eat lunch there - we haven't yet cruised post covid, but precovid we always found that the dining room was far less crowded than the Lido, and especially on embarkation day, we've already had enough of line ups . I hope we will be onboard in time for that lunch this time - we changed our flights because of the current airline delays ... If not the MDR, I would suggest avoiding the Lido if you can - the Dive In, or depending on the ship, there are other lunch options.
  6. We sail in two weeks (can't wait) on the Konigsdam on an Alaska Cruise tour. We've loaded up Verifly ... one thing I didn't know (and just stumbled across on another board) is that it won't let you upload your vaccination verification until you are within a 40 day window. I thought it was a buggy app or I was doing something wrong - but as soon as I was in the window, it loaded no problem. Hoping our negative test does the same! (I don't think we have QR codes with ours in Canada). Happy cruising friends, so happy to be getting back on board, soon!!!
  7. That's interesting as they seem to be available when I click on it now - wonder if either the website was being glitchy, or if they pulled them while they were working on some potential upgrade/upsells ...
  8. I just submitted mine for our July AK cruise tour - it took 2.5 weeks - I was sent an updated itinerary and the onboard credit was added. I won't complain as they gave me more than I thought we were entitled to!
  9. Found it - they have posted a bunch of menus from the restaurants in Denali and other stops we will be visiting:
  10. I keep hoping they will send an actual itinerary, too. I would love to know when our included excursions are so we can plan around it. I know everything I've read has said that we would be better off to buy our own food unless we are going to order the most expensive things on the menu. I have seen posts with pictures of the menus - I'll try to find them.
  11. We are on the Koningsdam this July - Yukon Double Denali ... can't wait - and the Dutch Cafe is DH's absolute favourite. Thanks for posting these pics and for the lovely review.
  12. Ooops - my mistake - I got all the way out and went back in and it's working now. Thanks!!!
  13. Hello all, There used to be an easy way to choose a cabin (or find out which cabins were empty) on the HAL website ... you could choose AFT (mid or fore), and then it would show you empty cabins. I can't seem to make that work anymore - only able to punch in a cabin # individually. Is this the case? Or is there another way for me to look? Thanks for your help!
  14. Oh no - so sorry to hear 😞 We have a cruise tour booked leaving July 23 ... it's to replace 2 cruises that we had to cancel because of Covid ... I hope you are able to find something that will work for you - pretty miserable to be looking forward to a cruise for a couple of years and then have it cancelled at the last minute. In addition to giving you cruise credits, you should be able to keep the mariner days you would have earned. Please let us know what ends up happening!
