Here’s the situation in monterey. Cruise ships only allowed via tender

As i said with more large ships its only going to get worse.
I have a cruise credit for Royal Caribbean otherwise i would have tried out princess. I'm going on a small ship the brilliance of the seas. My parents are very fond of princess. Something about there being a central atrium.
Thanks for posting about the rotterdam. Its good to know a smallish ship has been built. And i'm from Vancouver where the mega ships can't get under the lions gate bridge. I believe the crown princess comes to vancouver which i thought carried around 3000 passengers so maybe that size can get through.
Wow! I never knew Ovation sailed from vancouver. I know some of the 3000 passenger ships can fit under the bridge as celebrity eclipse was at canada place when i was there. I posted to the princess board and someone knew it was the rotterdam (holland america) that was built in 2021. It is 3200 passengers so not that small but i think i'd feel ok on that size. Apparently princess has a lot of debt from covid and they aren't building ships right now.
Please keep us posted when whoever hears about the next ship Royal Caribbean is building.
Thanks. Too bad if there are no more small ships. I think i'll post on holland america board as someone on rci board thought a new ship was built in 2021.
We're discussing on the royal caribbean board how royal caribbean is only building large ships. Is that the case with princess? I prefer the smaller ships so wondering. Apparently holland america is still building smaller ships. Some think the future of the cruise ship industry is large ships. I hope not.
I guess i should get cruising then! I disagree but maybe these small ships will be made more expensive. Interested in what princess is building as well.
Thanks that's good to know about Holland America! I did my first cruise on holland america and enjoyed it. I'm going to alaska on brilliance of the seas in 2 weeks so i'll see how i like it.
Thanks that's true. Sorry i think i am a little cranky this morning! I am still hoping for some small ships so maybe you are right and large ships will somewhat subsidize them.
I hope ports force them too by not accepting these mega ships to dock there. I know this is an unfavorable opinion but they are too big and overwhelm the port.
Cruise ship industry is doomed then. Some ports will tolerate these big ships like poor countries in the caribbean but others won't. I thought there was already chatter about monterey and key west limiting cruise ships. Bar Harbour has said no altogether.
I think they are shooting themselves in the foot as a lot of ports don't like these mega ships and it means more ports refusing cruise ships altogether unfortunately.
I'm a little concerned what is going to happen if these small ships like the radiance class age out and i'm wondering if royal caribbean is building new ones. Not all of us like these big ships. I'm also from Vancouver and the big ships can't go under the bridge.
Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed your photos-I would like to go to norway sometime. Anthem looked nice. I was glad to hear you for the most part liked the food in the mdr as there are complaints about it and i am going to alaska in 2 weeks.
Does anyone know if the new environmental restrictions also affect smaller cruise ships? It would be a shame if no cruise ships could go there. I’m hoping they’ll allow ships brilliance of the seas size.
I’m really sorry you missed it. Maybe wait for a few years and go on holland america that has glacier bay and the small boat excursion to tracy arm. Small boat excursion is really popular. I am going on a cruise with a 3 year gap but i haven’t gone yet so can’t say how i feel. Glacier bay is beautiful and not just for the glaciers.
